I've got a DS who's now 8 months old. During my pregnancy I ate HUGE amounts of chocolate, but that was okay because I was preggers and it was "a craving need". Then when breastfeeding, it was because I needed to make up those extra calories. Now I'm not anything except getting fat! My thighs and bum wobble and my FIL thinks I'm hiding another baby, he keeps patting my tummy and smiling knowingly at me. I do try to exercise, but I work part-time and do housework fulltime and DS keeps me busy in between. I'd much rather sit around and eat chocolate anyhow. I'm writing because my DH has just found an empty box of chocolates behind the sofa and he's not very happy!

I ate loads of chocolate when I was pg with DS2 - my excuse was it was my stress relieving substitue for alcohol.

My DS2 is now 14 months and I'm at weightwatchers so I've had no chocolate for ages. It is like a drug - you have to wean yourself off it and then you don't crave it so much.

DS2 has a really sweet tooth - we call him pudding - I always wonder if it's due to all the chocolate Grin

Nikaleeona · 19/03/2006 19:58

When i was pregnant with DD i ate loads of chocolate. No joke for the last 4 months i was pregnant i was eating at least 4 big easter eggs (hollow chocolate egg plus the chocolate bars that comes with it) a day!!! Blush For the first 6 months DD had colic and scareamed all the time! I m wondering if this could be due to the amount of chocolate and her having withdrawel symptoms! Shes 11months old now and has never had any chocolate because i am too scared that if i give it to her thats all she'll want to eat! Silly really! Because of the amount of chocolate i was eating i put on 4 and a half stone when pregnant! It took me 9 months to lose that and am now trying to lose more and get rid of the minging flabby belly! It is so hard to stop eating chocolate so i just try to cut down, however i still have weeks where i just scoff! I think its just one of those things!

girlchick · 19/03/2006 21:23

Chocolate is definately an addiction. I don't drink or smoke, so psychologically I reckon it's my little "treat". Ha ha. How do you wean off it?? I tried replacing it with fruit & veg but it's just not as satisfying!

Ahem...........i have a 1 KILOGRAM bar of dairy milk (not proper chocolate by some standards) sat next to me atm.

Well, there was 1kg of dairymilk earlier......Blush

Still, it was for my 30th birthday so i guess thats allowed Grin

Nemo1977 · 19/03/2006 21:27

another chocaholic here. Like someone else said I dont drink or smoke so it is my treat. Only thing is its a rather frequent treatBlush. I love chocolate completely in any shape or form.

SwimmingUpHillThroughCustard · 19/03/2006 21:29

world war three in our house cos i finished off boyf's pack of m&m's! careful..he nearly over reacted!

girlchick · 19/03/2006 21:38

Trade secrets of an addict: When I buy biscuits, I buy several packs, that way after I've eaten a whole load, there's still some left for my DH!

gigglinggoblin · 19/03/2006 21:39

my name is goblin and i am addicted to chocolate

i have found in the past that if i am very commited to dieting, i stop eating chocolate completely and after a week or so i get almost no cravings. however it only takes one tiny little bit to trigger off major binging again. currently munching through 100g bag of mini eggs (oh god i love easter). not successfully lost weight since ds3 was born

ds3 (21m)also has a bit of a habit. his 1st word was coc-coc (choc choc) and he now only has to hear the rustle of a packet and he will be rushing around screeching coc-coc! coc-coc! its like the episode of father ted where he clinka bottle and father jack shouts 'jacobs creek chardonnay 1991'(or whatever date - you get my drift).

Kiss · 19/03/2006 21:56

PMSL goblin Grin. I, too, love chocolate and DS2 takes after me - a friend gave him his first chocolate biscuit at 10 months (a chocolate man from Waitrose) and the look of bliss on his face was incredible.

I can't have chocolate in the house. I have lost count of the presents that have been opened and consumed Blush. I console myself with the fact that there are worse addictions Smile.

chjlly · 19/03/2006 22:04

I have £40 worth of chocolate sat in my kitchen Grin!!!
Not all of it is for me though :( I bought it for easter pressies from a chocolate party!!!

Slink · 19/03/2006 22:14

I give up chocolate every now and and again for a month.....
i gave up on the 27th feb but ate like a pig last week due to period, so now starting again till 3rd April......

halima · 22/03/2006 18:44

I heard on the radio yesterday that if you break biscuits in half before eating them, some of the calories leak out. Also, apparently, it's impossible to get fat eating jammy dodgers!

PeachyClair · 22/03/2006 19:38

'It's impo0ssible to get fat eating jammy dodgers' only if you have to walk a mile to get each one LOL.

I would suggest a small bar of something REALLY good- Green and Black Butterscotch (the only choc I like)

spursmum · 22/03/2006 19:46

I am proud to say I am a chocoholic too!!!Grin
This comes from a mum who has just eaten a Drifter, a Twix, an Aero and a Mars bar!!
But my excuse is Im 6ft and a size 12 so it doesn't show!!
I find that if I have a little snack size bar a day stops my cravings and stops me binging.

halima · 22/03/2006 20:05

You have a small snack-size bar of choccie a day, yet you've just eaten a Drifter, a Twix, an Aero and a Mars bar!! Ha ha Wink

4blue1pink · 22/03/2006 20:15

bought giant fruit and nut in tesco ....nothing beats it!

chocolateshoes · 22/03/2006 20:18

I have always had major choclate cravings. I can't help it - I need it! Am munching my way through a Mint Ritta Sport as I write! Smile

SleepyJess · 22/03/2006 20:19

Ugh! Chocolate should *not& be contaminated with lumps of... fruit [shudder] and nut [heave]! Chocolate should be enjoyed in plentiful fashion, whislt reading a good book, lolling on sofa.. and the product itself should be very slightly sweaty.. (not straight out the fridge! Shock)

Ah heaven... :)

SleepyJess · 22/03/2006 20:21

A little snack sized bar of any chocolate, per day, is for me, profoundly depressing!!! None is preferable!!

spursmum · 22/03/2006 20:24

True I sound like a complete pig but it was just sitting in my fridge crying Eat me!!Grin
My excuse is that I am trying to get me and ds to eat a little healthier so that was the last of the big bars of choc to go!!
He will not be happy!

girlchick · 22/03/2006 20:40

Who knows how to give up chocolate? Go cold turkey? Wean off slowly? What's a good replacement food? Maybe each time I eat chocolate I should write it down and at the end of the week shock myself with the results like in "You are what you eat". Actually that Gillian McKeith woman looks like she could do with some chocolate!

OP posts:
SleepyJess · 22/03/2006 21:16

She could do with a SLAP!!! Angry

And don't let anyone tell you that fecking carob is ANY kind of substitute for anything.. much less CHOCOLATE!

lua · 22/03/2006 21:26

Chocalcoholic here too!
I had to give up -gasp- while pregnant! No fair! But I had GD, and when I needed to, I manage to gave up...not!
Within a month, I've learned that 70% chocolate did not raise my blood sugar. Now, I'm still addicted, but can't handle much milk chocolate....
So I act smug, that I only eat "healthy" chocolate... Wink

Anyway, I say cold turkey is the only way out of the addiction. But if you can't do that, try substituting for very dark chocolate.

SleepyJess · 22/03/2006 21:32

I gave up chocolate completely for NINE MONTHS plus whilst still fully breastfeeding my severely dairy inolerent child! (He used to get severe eczema via the breast milk from dairy I was consuming!! Shock)

SEE! I can be smug too even though I use disposables!!! Grin

I am killing all threads tonight tho. Sob.

lua · 22/03/2006 21:44

oh my g*D! You use what?!?!?! disposables?!?! Shock Smile

Ok SJ, I'll kill this thread for you then... Smile
