get her fav proggramme on and sit her on a potty in front of telly?

Frizbe · 14/03/2006 16:00

OMG, good luck! I have no idea, could you sit her on a potty if you have one until she goes??

Hattie05 · 14/03/2006 16:00

Can you sit her on a potty every now and then in the vain hope that she does a wee at some point! Leave the taps running and read her a story whilst she's on the potty.

( i know i know, i can't imagine many 9mths old to sit there long enough, but its worth a try! Smile).

Can a doc not take a sample from a wet nappy?

katzg · 14/03/2006 16:00

screams on the potty!! thanks though

currently she is stood up between my legs with a small bowl, hoping that she will go!

Have you anything less absorbent than a nappy - then you can wring the wee out (eg an unlined terry towelling nappy) IYSWIM Good luck!!

picnikel · 14/03/2006 16:02

Have a clean bowl to hand. Leave dd without nappy and hover....as soon as you see her start to wee pick her up and hold her over the bowl.

Rather you than me mind you.....

Hayls · 14/03/2006 16:03

ASk the gp/ nurse/ pharmacist for a special pad that you put inside the nappy. Wait until she wees then syringe it out and transfer to a sample bottle. Dd had to do this in A+E recently. I don't know why it isn't standard practice tbh.
P.S They really only do need a tiny amount!

katzg · 14/03/2006 16:03

there has to be an easier way to do this! Grin

fastasleep · 14/03/2006 16:04

Put her on a plastic covered mat if you have one or a plasticy table cloth... when she goes, er, scoop it up with a medicine syringe... been there done that with DS's kidneys!!

katzg · 14/03/2006 16:05

the GP gave us this bag thing which you stuck in place but the bag failed to fill!

OP posts:
picnikel · 14/03/2006 16:06

Honestly 2happy, can tell you're a pampers girl - wringing out a terry indeed - PMSL!!! Grin.

fastasleep · 14/03/2006 16:06

...the kitchen floor may work... do you have any meds with a syringe lying about? You can get a new syringe when you see GP lol

2Happy · 14/03/2006 16:07

How come when you don't want them to wee, like when changing a nappy or bathing, they piddle all over you, then the one time you do...?! Grin

2Happy · 14/03/2006 16:08

(why picnikel, are they more absorbent than you'd think, or does ds just pee for Britain - really, when he pees on me I can wring it out!)

heavenis · 14/03/2006 16:08

Put cotton wool in her nappy and when she wees ring it out. Those plastic bag thing hardly ever work.

katzg · 14/03/2006 16:10

trying a combo of the mat and catching bowl! will let you know!!

any more ideas

OP posts:
picnikel · 14/03/2006 16:11

Maybe dd is more ladylike in her widdling but I don't think I'd get a drop out of a terry.

I quite like the let them make a puddle and syringe some up idea, sounds the easiest!

katzg · 14/03/2006 16:17

still no wee

OP posts:
PiccadillyCircus · 14/03/2006 16:18

Take her into the bathroom and run the taps? (and then try and catch it in the bowl of course)

gegs73 · 14/03/2006 16:30

We had to do this when my ds was just 12 months. We put some tissues inside his normal nappy got him to drink loads of water, dangled his feet in the bath... then checked his nappy. He had weed and we rung out the tissues into the sample tube. Only very tiny amount but thats all they need.

LIZS · 14/03/2006 16:33

Can you not get another bag. They do work if left long enough and stuck securely ! (dd had it at 3 months and I had to sit all morning in a surgery, breastfeeding and wait...)

katzg · 14/03/2006 16:35

surgery closes at 6 so will keep trying for a bit longer
