strip her down to nappy and sponge her all over with a cold damp cloth for starters

katzg · 12/03/2006 14:43

ring nhs direct 0845 4647

staceym11 · 12/03/2006 14:53

nhs direct wont do anything, take to a & e, had to do it with dd at about that age, they wont think your overreacting, if you cant get her temperature down they need to!

katzg · 12/03/2006 14:56

was hoping to avoid a and e, theres a couple of inches of snow outside!

Shes a bit sleepy but seems happy.

how long do i leave her before taking her to gp/a and e,

SoupDragon · 12/03/2006 15:00

How high is her temperature?

Gloworm · 12/03/2006 15:01

try it again, when she is cooler give her the calpol, she might keep it down

katzg · 12/03/2006 15:02

not sure, dd1 has lost our forehead thermometer, dh is on a mission to locate one!

OP posts:
katzg · 12/03/2006 15:02

gloworm will try that when she wakes up!

OP posts:
ruty · 12/03/2006 15:03

keep her in a nappy, bus the way she is behaving is a good indicator of how well/unwell she is. If she seems happy and has no other symptoms i would not rush her to A&E. Would get a thermometer to check tho!

katzg · 12/03/2006 15:06

oh pants bloody hot 39.8 under her arm which normally for her is 36.5

OP posts:
Gloworm · 12/03/2006 15:08

can u put a cold cloth on her forehead? even if she is asleep?

Screwballmuppet · 12/03/2006 15:10

Is she drinking? can you get her to sip some dilutable juice?
Have you got a fan?

Screwballmuppet · 12/03/2006 15:11

A cool flannel is good on the back of the neck too

ruty · 12/03/2006 15:11

that is quite hot. how is she behaving?

katzg · 12/03/2006 15:12

shes sleepy at the mo

i'm on the phone trying to through to the out of hours gp

OP posts:
staceym11 · 12/03/2006 15:14

ok, didnt take dd to a & e until she was at 42, but if it goes up over the next hour you'd be better off taking her, might be a sign of infection (dd had a unrine infection that the doctor mis diagnosed!)

katzg · 12/03/2006 15:25

given details waiting for them to ring back

OP posts:
ruty · 12/03/2006 15:26

see what the gp advises. Hope she feels better soon.

katzg · 12/03/2006 15:29

how long will i have to wait for a reply! place you're guesses here,

just to add to the story dd2 has cutaneous mastocytosis, which basically means red blotches all over her trunk, so impossible to see any additional rashes

OP posts:
staceym11 · 12/03/2006 15:37

probably about 1 - 1 1/2 hours for reply, mine was! from nhs direct! hope shes better soon, if your worried go to a & e i know it seems extreme but you know best for your child, you know when shes not right!

best wishes

katzg · 12/03/2006 15:40

thing is sure she would be fine if i could get calpol in her ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

OP posts:
BudaBabe · 12/03/2006 15:44

Can you get paracetamol suppositories?? Sounds drastic but really works when they can't or won't take medicine.

You should be able to get them from pharmacy.

katzg · 12/03/2006 15:53

think that might be the way foward,

spoke to a nurse now waiting for a doctor to phone
