Itchy, ahem, ladybits - but not thrush?

Since Friday evening I've had very uncomfortable itchiness around my pubic hair. I thought at first it might be an odd thrush thing (I get it every now and again) but it's not inside IYKWIM, just around the skin around the hair. I've also been putting on thrush cream for 3 applications now and no difference at all. Usually I think I'd see some improvement by now if it were thrush.

It happened after a very hot day where I was out and about and did get a bit sweaty. I was also wearing underwear which was high %age cotton but not 100%. I have in the past got thrush from synthetic underwear and do have sensitive skin.

Could it be some kind of heat rash/uncomfortableness from getting hot? I would have thought 3 days later it would be improving though Hmm . FWIW I also have been going to the gym alot in recent weeks wearing the not 100% cotton knicks - maybe it's a build up effect but Friday just tipped it over, but haven't noticed anything before.

Just so as not to drip feed I also have pain when going for a wee today, but I think that's unrelated to itchy issue - it's just as I didn't go to the loo until I was bursting a few times yesterday and when I hold on too long I seem to get this the next day and have to drink alot (and wee alot!) and then usually it goes away .

I have tried googling this but with limited success. Has anyone had this/know what it might be/if there's anything I can do?

Think you should see your GP about the pain while weeing. You could have a UTI and a course of antibiotics will have it sorted.

As for the itching, I have this. I did have thrush a few months ago but its all cleared up now. But the itch is still there around the hair as you describe. I do find that its worse in bed or on warm days so I think its related to sweat/heat.

Im hoping someone comes along who can shed more light on it.

meditrina · 13/08/2012 08:32

Yes, go and see your GP (UTI, cystitis for the urinary symptoms, crabs for itching?) Or perhaps directly to a GUM clinic?

You need to discuss this with someone you know to be medically qualified.

archareastie · 13/08/2012 08:36

wanna yes to it being worse in bed!

Re: pain when weeing I'm going to leave it till tomorrow in the hope my usual drinking water and weeing alot will get rid of it as my body isn't v good with anti bios.

I definatley dont have crabs. Im pregnant and the only person who has been near down there in months is the midwife :o

archareastie · 13/08/2012 09:03

wanna all I can find from googling is some kind of dermatitis which could be caused from clothes reaction/washing powder/sweat etc Confused . Maybe yours is a pg related thing - I got loads of odd things when pg -can't use that excuse with me though!

I don't know if you can take them when pregnant, but if you can, one thing I'd try is an antihistamine. I have an allergic reaction to something in food which causes itching all over my body. But it starts around the groin area. It goes away in about an hour with an antihistamine. Antihistamines may also work if it's a heat rash. Might be worth a try?

devilinside · 13/08/2012 10:05

erm, scabies, that's where mine started and they were an absolute nightmare to get rid of (I have ds to thank for them, I guess he caught them at school)

archareastie · 13/08/2012 14:38

devil I googles scabies and went incredibly itchy Confused at the thought.

blu might give antihistamine a go - just got to ask if it's suitable when bfing

wannabedomesticgoddess · 13/08/2012 14:45

Surely scabies would be itchy all the time?

reastie · 13/08/2012 17:07

Yes wanna that's good logic.

NarkedRaspberry · 13/08/2012 17:12

Sudocrem. All over down there. It can go everywhere except inside your vagina.

NarkedRaspberry · 13/08/2012 17:13

And if possible no knickers and long skirts/loose pj bottoms.

reastie · 13/08/2012 18:23

narkd excellent idea - sodicrem fixes everything doesn't it Grin - will try that soon and wear nightie tonight - no pj trousers for me!

reastie · 13/08/2012 18:23

sodicrem?! Blush

2beornot · 13/08/2012 18:30

I get this from time to time and it's linked to perfume in products (I.e. shower gel or bubble bath). I can go months with it being ok but then it suddenly starts again. Anti histamine can help as can usIng simple shower gel. Also if I've been itching I can break the skin which in turn stings a little when I pee. Not sure if it's the same for you, but something else to rule out if not!!

reastie · 13/08/2012 18:36

2be I'm very sensitive to skin stuff too and generally stick to baby soap/body wash but I have washed my hair in the bath a couple of times recently with strong medicated shampoo so maybe it's that.

jammydoger · 13/08/2012 18:39

Sudocrem didn't work for me nor did thrush cream. I've had the itch for 6 months, tried 4 types of steroid cream which seem to sort it out in the short term then it returns with a vengeance! Been to the Drs who thinks its eczema related its driving me crazy. Any other ideas on how to get rid of it?

reastie · 13/08/2012 19:21

Well, I'm smothered in sudocrem so I'll see if it works for me

IMcHunt · 13/08/2012 19:23

Could be worms...

reastie · 14/08/2012 07:47

Worms???? I'll have to google that too then

Another itchy night despite sudocrem and was worse after shower too. I'm wondering whether to wash all my towels/underwear in a super gentle powder not the usual regular non bio incase it's that.

Had a look down there and it looks very red and sore. Got my smear tomorrow and hoping it will be OK and the nurse won't be too Shock

chocolateteabag · 15/08/2012 20:08

Try telco haemorrhoid cream - it's got lidocaine and soft paraffin, when my eczema is going crazy I find it's my life saviour from itching. I figure if it can go on your bum hole it can go on your front bit too
But don't kill me if it's a huge no no

EdithWeston · 15/08/2012 20:11

Any improvement?

You can get aqueous cream with calamine: might be worth a try if nothing else is working.

chocolateteabag · 15/08/2012 20:38

Tesco! Not "telco"

NarkedRaspberry · 15/08/2012 21:05

Hope you got some help

OhEmGee24 · 15/08/2012 21:23

Smear whilst pregnant? Hmm
