Supposing you immac'd your face...

I'm not suggesting that any of you have hairy upper lips or chins, but supposing you did, and you immac'd your face, would you expect to be hair free, or would you be rubbing your stubble right now?

I thought immac was supposed to leave you smooth?

I'd try and pick up an IPL course on Groupon - people who I know who have done it absolutely swear by it. Pricey, but permanent in the end - and if you have dark hair its the best result

Trills · 07/08/2012 09:41

The threading place should thread anyone who asks, it's not up to them to decide who gets a hair-free face.

They might want to charge extra though (sorry)

threeleftfeet · 07/08/2012 09:43

Trills immac dies dissolve hair if you leave it long enough. The trick is not leaving it so long it burns your face too! (like I said your skin can get used to it)

I am sadly a bit of an expert at this subject!

HecateHarshPants · 07/08/2012 09:45

I find shaving leaves me with very clear black dots at the surface, where the hair has been cut.

Yes, I can just imagine it, "sorry sir madam, but this is going to be an hour long, 2 person job..."

I am nervous about the cream, having been burned before! It also starts to tingle after a few minutes, which I take as a warning to get it the hell off! And it makes the skin red and shiney.

So as I sit here, I have a red, shiny, stubbly chin and tache and a big bald spot.

No surprise that I do most of my socialising on the internet, really. Grin

Hectate I have PCOS too, luckily I don't suffer with the weight or hair problems, but my beloved aunt does as well as her daughter so I feel your pain!

When I get bikini waxes, I get the worst ingrowns because the hair is so course. Never get it anywhere else. How do you deal with the bloody ingrowns?! I feel like I've tried everything and I'm just getting yukky little scars.

Sorry to hijack.

cocolepew · 07/08/2012 09:48

My threading booth has 'face' on the price list. Im going today to get my eyebrows done.

I had it done in Debenhams a couple of years ago, she asked me if I wanted my face done as well . Fellow PCOS sufferer here too.

cocolepew · 07/08/2012 09:49

After Immacing, smear your face with Sudacream.

I think Veet is better than Immac.

HecateHarshPants · 07/08/2012 09:50

I tease them out. It's all you can do, really.

I only do the face. It's like the amazonian rain forest down there, but I don't have the time Grin

OP posts:
HecateHarshPants · 07/08/2012 09:51

Veet didn't shift them.

Apart from the time I accidently used the leg stuff on my face. That shifted the skin.

but not the hair Hmm

I am clearly a weird human/yeti hybrid.

threeleftfeet · 07/08/2012 09:51

Hecate actually on second thoughts, my hair - although also very thick (I could grow a fine goatee!) is fair. So the inevitable stubble when growing back isn't so obvious at first.
It might mean that the cream isn't so suitable for you perhaps?

Is there any reason you don't want to go for layering?

A friend of mine is a male-to/female transgender woman, and she's having her very full beard removed by lazering. If she can do it, then we should be able to!

The only thing stopping me on that is price.

HecateHarshPants · 07/08/2012 09:52

Right. Will travel to other end of country (to ensure nobody I know sees it!) and get threaded. If that doesn't work, I'll join the circus.

I bought a machine and it didn't work, so I ruled it out. I thought if the machine I had did nothing, then what's the point paying loads of money to try again?

I suppose the machines you can buy may not be as good as the salons, but it's so expensive, isn't it?

OP posts:
threeleftfeet · 07/08/2012 09:55

"Apart from the time I accidently used the leg stuff on my face. That shifted the skin. but not the hair"

That happened to me once with the face stuff when I started using it. It did remove skin but left the hair! I felt awful Sad

That kind of thing doesn't happen now my skin had got used to it.

Grockle · 07/08/2012 09:57

IPL at a salon- hugely expensive but worth it not to have a tash for my sanity & emotional well-being.

Salons use different machines to the ones you can buy - they are more powerful and therefore more effective.

threeleftfeet · 07/08/2012 09:57

The salons are meant to be better than the home kits. If you can afford it it's definitely the best solution IMO. It'll take a few goes, but then the hair will be gone forever!

OlivesTorchStreak · 07/08/2012 09:58

My friend has this too Hec. I would often arrive at her house to find her with a full Immac beard just before we went out. She used to use it about every 2 days and leave it on for AGES! Can't be great for your skin, but only that and waxing would work. Unfortunately laser and electrolosis don't work as it is a hormonal condition and the hair will just grow back. Sad

threeleftfeet · 07/08/2012 11:04

"Unfortunately laser and electrolosis don't work as it is a hormonal condition and the hair will just grow back. "

Noo! Please don't say that! I'm looking forward to the day I can afford electrolysis.

Bum.

HecateHarshPants · 07/08/2012 11:04

Is that right? That they don't work if it's PCOS?

OP posts:
MrsTrellisOfSouthWales · 07/08/2012 11:07

Threading would work, but I couldn't leave the wirey ones to grow long enough to do it. Top-lip-tastic though.

Onthebottomwithawomansweekly · 07/08/2012 11:14

A beautician told me (about waxing) that you basically have 3 sets of hair, all at different growing points in their cycle - some dormant etc. So if you wax you only get (and weaken) the hair that's visible on that day.

Then brand new strong hair grows from different follicles. Wax again, and that hair is weakened. The third lot grows as normal, and yep, wax AGAIN and then all your hair is weakened.

That, apparently, is how people who wax frequently end up with softer finer hair, and extend the gap between waxes to 6 weeks (I wax about once every 5 years and only get 2 weeks out of it).

So I wonder if that home machine actually did work, but you are seeing hair from one of the other cycles (that didn't get zapped)?

I've one of them in the back of a drawer from years ago, must try it again and see if I persevere perhaps it might work.

HecateHarshPants · 07/08/2012 11:27

Oh. I didn't know that. I may pull it out and give it a longer go.

OP posts:
StellaAndFries · 07/08/2012 18:19

I have to immac my face too Blush I have to do full beard and down to neck and up to my ears. I also get thick black pube like hairs which I never notice until I'm in the car without any tweezers Hmm I have PCOS and whilst I do have periods recently I also have a beard and can't lose weight no matter what I try, it's a pain in the arse :(

OlivesTorchStreak · 08/08/2012 09:41

Hec I have had laser hair removal and that was one of the questions I was asked when booking the treatment. My friends who have PCOS have been turned away. Sorry. Sad At least you haven't wasted your money and you have saved yourself the agony. I only had two treatments. It was ridiculously expensive at the time (it was years ago) and bloody painful.

Bottom this is correct. If I go for waxing treatments regularly they last ages, but when I am a lazy cow and only go before my holidays it only lasts 2 weeks like you. PITA.

HecateHarshPants · 08/08/2012 10:38

Oh crappola.

Oh well.

Circus it is then Grin

I have to take provera to give me periods. I would be happy to never have another one ever but the gynae told me that if you never shed your womb lining it can increase the risk of womb cancer, which scared me.
