I am sitting here in a plaster cast from toes to knee feeling very cross with myself and very fed up Sad

Might need some cheering up over the next few weeks.

Kayleigh how awful

lizardqueen · 27/02/2006 14:31

This is such bad luck, oh Marillion-named one. Are you at home or do you have to struggle into work?

Just look on it as an opportunity to mumsnet lots - we've hardly seen you of late!

Kayleigh · 27/02/2006 14:32

I slipped on our stairs in my slippers on Friday just over a week ago. Went down about three stairs before i stopped myself but landed badly. I thought I had just given it a bad sprain. My mum kept on and on at me to have an x-ray to check it, so just to shut her up I finally went to the hospital on Monday (after hobbling about on it all weekend). And I had broken my fibula just above my ankle. Actually admitting my mum was right hurt more than the break !!!!

Very frustrating as am on crutches and can't put any weight on the leg for two weeks - impossible to do ANYTHING. They reckon plaster can come off in 4 weeks if all ok.

Can't do anything for myself or my boys. Soooo fed up.

"Can't do anything for myself or my boys. Soooo fed up"

are you mad??
you have 4 weeks of being waited on hand and foot.
After the weekend I've had that's rather appealing to me.

3rd stair up, you say?

(LTH runs off to throw herslef down the stairsWinkWink)

Kayleigh · 27/02/2006 14:37

Hausfrau, we did that yesterday - did feel better for a while - but need a sock over my toes most of the time or they get cold.
Actually the view the other side is ok too. My friend drew little smiley faces on each of my toes Smile When I wiggle them it makes my boys laugh !

lizardqueen, been signed off for 4 weeks - no way I could get into work unless I cabbed it in. And they haven't offered to pay - so I'm certainly not going to !

Have a feeling you'll be seeing a lot more of me on here the next few weeks. Mumsnet will be my Salvation Grin

Definitely agree with LTH - milk it for all it's worth Wink

zippitippitoes · 27/02/2006 14:44

what an unlucky accident, poor you I'm sure you will be sadly missed at work and they won't have completely forgotten about you when you go back Grin

BettySpaghetti · 27/02/2006 14:44

I've been on crutches in the past -its a nightmare isn't it? ( and mine was pre-kids so haven't a clue what it would be like with kids!).

Have you done the "make a cup of tea and then realise you can't carry it anywhere" thing yet? I had to have a chair in the kitchen to sit and eat and drink as I couldn't get it to the dining room.

Another tip is to have a small bag you can put across your body to carry things around in.

Hope you've got lots of help and get well soon

Kayleigh · 27/02/2006 14:44

LadyTophamHatt, thank you for making me laugh.

Keep the sympathy coming ladies ...... Wink

CarolinaMoon · 27/02/2006 14:46

you poor thing Sad

It is a right PITA being on crutches - a great opportunity to get the boys fetching and carrying for you though Wink

Kayleigh · 27/02/2006 14:47

BettySpaghetti, YES, YES, YES !!!! I did the tea thing. How stupid did I feel Sad Actually burst into tears at that point as I felt so clever for making it. And yes, I have been dragging a chair from the table over using my crutches and sitting in front of the fridge eating lunch.

expatinscotland · 27/02/2006 16:01

aw, hon! i've had my share of leg injuries and crutches, sticks, etc. get a rucksack and a great travel coffee much. when you make your tea, put it in the mug w/lid, pop it into your rucksack and away you go!

QE2 · 27/02/2006 18:08

Kayleigh - big big sympathies - I was on crutches for 2 months last year (and a further 6 weeks with one crutch after that) after a nasty injury to my knee.

Get yourself an office chair with wheels on it. My dad lent me his and it was fab! Meant I could push with my good leg and get myself round the house whilst carrying stuff (and kids) on my lap. It made the world of difference and helped my frustration loads.

Agree with milking it for all it's worth - although, as you know, you hardly need to.

Kayleigh · 14/03/2006 18:18
