Breast lump

For those of you who have found a lump, how How distinctive did it feel? Was it obviously a lump or did you keep feeling it thinking you weren't sure? I have found a possible lump but it is very small and could just be part of a lumpy breast. I will get it checked but just looking for reassurance.

There is no way to tell except by having it checked. When i had BC I never felt a lump but it showed on a mammogram. Received wisdom is that a dodgy lump feels hard and rough,is approximately pea sized and is fixed not mobile but any lump can be benign and any lump can be nasty. Good Luck with yours.

my fibroadenoma was about the size of a hazelnut and very clearly a lump - it moved when pushed (unlike greylady) and they are known as breast mice becuase of the way they 'run away' when you push them. (harmless)

my cysts that i have now are much more indistiguishable from 'normal' breast tissue but still nothing to worry about - i just get them checked every 6 months

so go and get checked - will prob be nothing

:)

Mine was clearly a lump - like a small stone. Didn't stop me feeling it all the time to check it was really there though Grin. However, until you get it checked you will never know. One thing I@ve learned is that everybody is different - what everyone needs to look out for (not just BC) is changes in their body.
However, statistically, even a lump is FAR more likely to _not be BC, than to be BC, and, even if you are in the tiny % that are diagnosed, it is very, very tratable these days.
If you need hand holding, you're find a lot of lovely ladies waiting for in in General Health in a thread called Tamoxifen. Lots of people pop in for a bit of hand holding while they await their tests or their results. Smile

Oh Lordy Lord - too many typos to begin correcting! Blush

MegGriffin · 24/05/2012 06:55

Thanks everyone for your replies, I appreciate them. I can hardly find it this morning so I will watch over the next couple of days but will definitely get it checked if there is any doubt.

Mine was a tiny hard lump, like a small stone, so felt very different to the rest of my breast. As the others have said, just get it checked. Best to know either way, as Breast Cancer's hugely treatable these days if you get it early enough.

Waving to BackforGood. How are you?? Smile

MegGriffin · 24/05/2012 20:55

Well I asked dh to feel it and he could. Thing is you can only feel it if I raise my arm. It feels small, the size of a grain of rice if not smaller and stuck down if that makes sense. I have to manipulate my finger to locate it but once I do it's there. I will ring doctors tomorrow and post back to let you know what they say.

Hi Smee - doing great thanks - Tamoxifen just moves on so fast, I find it hard to keep up now I'm back at work Grin

MegGriffin · 25/05/2012 16:38

Well I went to docs this morning and she has referred me to hospital. They have already rung me and I have an appointment for 2 weeks today. Bit dare now Sad

Scared I mean

Don't read anything into the speed with which they are seeing you - that is standard procedure. At the moment, all they are doing is checking. The waiting is the hardest bit and our wonderful NHS has learned that and made this decision.

mumof2monsters · 25/05/2012 16:46

Meg I too found a lump a few weeks ago but was not sure if it was a lump or bone or what it was. Felt it again this week and went to docs today convinced she would not be able to find it or say it is nothing but she has referred me to have tests. Broke down in the docs surgery forgot to ask any questions and came home and cried. Think it was just a shock of her saying yes there is a lump. I came home frightened and thinking the worst. Called the docs back and they said because my whole breast hurts and feels sore it may just be cystic. Like you tho meg I feel really scared incase it is BC. Now told up to a 2 week wait and then you may have to wait for test results. Sooo Scared and glad to find other like minded people on here to talk to. Let's hope Meg that ours is nothing to worry about.

BackforGood · 25/05/2012 16:53

Meg and Mo2M -come over here for some hand holding and real life experiences from ladies who have been there - you can ask whtever questions you like.

smee · 25/05/2012 17:12

BackforGood, great you're back at work. Come and say hi when you can. I can't keep up either. Smile

Meg & mumof, sorry you're now both going through the testing nightmare. Still 9 out of 10 referrals turn out to be nothing though, so the odds are still positive. Even if it is bad news most breast cancer's treatable. Tamoxifen thread's very friendly, so come and say hi if you'd like. We all get how scary it is.

MegGriffin · 25/05/2012 17:44

Mo2m sorry we are in the same boat but hopefully it will all be ok. Smee and backforgood thank you for your kind words. I will pop over soon for some more info and hand holding, you are all wonderful. On my phone at moment and not too good on it.
