how many do you have in a day/night?

I have only recently started having them during the day. I seem to have about 2 or 3 or 4 ... can I expect that to get worse? Am hurtling towards 50.

You can't feel the magnet at all, I wear it all the time.

I'm still waiting to be attached to someone wearing a magnetic bangle Grin

Hullygully · 17/05/2012 12:40

but but how does the magnet work?

OrmIrian · 17/05/2012 12:52

thenightisyoung - interesting about the running. I've just started running again after a few years break so will be interested to see if it helps. maybe I can come off the HRT.

I've been taking HRT for a year now - I had tried herbal supplements but they didn't help much and I was feeling so shitty! My periods became really iregular when I was in my late 30s and more or less stopped by the time I was 42. Symptoms only became really bad a few years back though.

doormat · 17/05/2012 12:57

i started getting hot flushes about 4 mths ago....it can vary from 0-10 in any day....the thing is i was really scared as i had never felt like this before...

my periods are skewiff and irregular

my mood swings are awful i have found i am less tolerant towards ppl's behaviour....and disinterested, which is the total opposite of my personality

i have acne flareups ...which i have never had, even as a teen

night sweats are awful...for around 12mths been getting them....have to change pj's and bedding in the night...sometimes 3 times...

also prone to water infections...had 3 in 8 mths

is this normal as i dont have any family members who have had the same/ they had hysterectomies....

i am 45 btw

OrmIrian · 17/05/2012 12:59

Yes doormat, IME those are all normal. I felt utterly dreadful - hence the HRT. I know it's not for everyone but I was finding it almost impossible to function normally.

doormat · 17/05/2012 13:21

thx ormirian..have been to the gp, they say how old are you and just change the subject....is 45 too young...i have always been a fit person..but last few months all i have wanted to do is sleep...everything is an effort iykwim....have another water infection now and am sik of it...been checked out with kidneys and womb etc as 8 mths was hospitilized because i was weeing blood...they found nothing wrong....they said it was probably a kidney stone...

higgle · 17/05/2012 14:39

I'm on HRT and have been for over 3 years now. I put up with the hot flushes for a week and couldn't stand it. Now I feel perfectly normal, great skin and libido too - my mother has osteoparosis and I'd hate to end up like she is, bent up and about 4'3" ( though I do run and do extra exercise to prevent that too)

cocolepew · 17/05/2012 15:33

magik Hully

bibbitybobbitybunny · 17/05/2012 16:01

Am intrigued by the knickermagnet but could the Boots website actually be any less helpful? It doesn't say a single thing about how or why it is supposed to work! RAH!!! Am working myself into a menopausal lather of indignation even as I type.

ExitPursuedByABear · 17/05/2012 16:07

Thanks - this thread has just brought on another flush!

I had a few on and off last year - plus the crashing fatigue. Then they stopped and I thought - hurrah, that was easy.

Now they are back with a vengeance. I have about 10 a day and all bloody night.

Interesting to read that stress can bring them on - I can also think one upon myself.

Are you serious about the magnetic clip?

If men suffered with hot flushes there would be all sorts of research and treatment.

Growing old is shite.

cocolepew · 17/05/2012 16:10

here might help I first heard of magnets helping period pains, Avon used to sell one. A girl in work got one and said it was remarkable the difference it made.

I remember reading a study on teenage girls using them for period pains and how much it reduced the need for painkillers.

Hullygully · 17/05/2012 16:17

STICK A MAGNET DOWN YOUR KNICKERS????

WTAF?

cocolepew · 17/05/2012 16:17

Quote from medical thingymybob

'magnets work by relaxing capillarywalls, thereby boosting blood flow to the area.

They prevent muscle spasms by interfering with muscle contractions.

They interfer with the electrochemicals reactions that take place within nerve cells, impeding their ability to transmit pain messages to the brain.'

My mum has so many magnets on her it's a wonder she can walk in a straight line.

cocolepew · 17/05/2012 16:18

Clip it on Hully. not stuff it down. Try to be a bit more ladylike

cocolepew · 17/05/2012 16:20

Why does everyone think I'm making it up? I'm not honest! Boots sell them, trust me i'm a Dr.*

*I'm not really, but magntic theraphy does work, the interweb says so.

cocolepew · 17/05/2012 16:22

it can break a laptop Shock

cocolepew · 17/05/2012 16:23

Apparently it has been used on horses for years.

Hullygully · 17/05/2012 16:27

That proves it's a lie.

Horses don't wear knickers

ExitPursuedByABear · 17/05/2012 16:30

They wear magnetic boots Hully.

bibbitybobbitybunny · 17/05/2012 16:32

Well, you've convinced me coco. Am going to get one.

OP posts:
cocolepew · 17/05/2012 16:37

My friend got one, she hadn't had a period for 8 months and took one 3 weeks after starting to wear the Magik Magnet.

She hit me Confused

bibbitybobbitybunny · 17/05/2012 16:48

Perhaps I should also wear the magnetic horse boots to be absolutely sure?

OP posts:
amillionyears · 17/05/2012 17:16

So I went to Boots....couldnt see any in the store....got stuck in a queue in fron of a man....almost whispered to the lady behind the counter something about HRT and magnets...not sure she fully understood...too embarrased to mention the word knickers....fled empty handed.
Thanks cocolepew!

cocolepew · 17/05/2012 17:19

You're welcome Grin

It is usually kept where the menopause vitamins and supplements are kept.

For the normal shy and retiring amongst us, you can buy these on Amazon. More reviews as well (not all positive).
