How do I get out of loo without being covered in blood?

So I am having really REALLY heavy intense menstrual bleeding since giving birth a year ago and I find a) I have to change tampons every hour b) I don't seem to be able to do this without getting blood all over my hands....

No obvs I wipe up my hands as best I can but I am really really embarrassed about having bloody hands till I can get to the sink and wash them properly.

What can I do?

Take some baby wipes in to clean your hands?

Chopstheduck · 01/05/2012 12:28

carry some wet wipes?

QuintessentialShadows · 01/05/2012 12:29

moon cup, sanitary pads and latex gloves?

blueberryboybait · 01/05/2012 12:30

Have you seen anyone about the bleeding being this heavy? If not have it checked out and they might be able to give you something to help ease it.

Can you take a small pack of hand/wet wipes in with you?

Get0rfMoiLand · 01/05/2012 12:32

Bloody hell that's not normal is it?

Apart from the general abbatoir vibe, that must be making you feel grim.

Tell me to sod off and mind my own business, but have you been to the doc? Surely people shouldn't have to cope with heavy periods like this?

I only say because my mum's life has been blighted by heavy periods, I don't even have them but dd inherited (it seems) my mother's hormones and shhe had very heavy periods from a young age. Mefenamic acid worked very well to reduce the blood loss and pain (if you don't want to use hormonal conraxeption to stop the heaviness).

entropygirl · 01/05/2012 13:05

hmmm I hadn't actually considered wet wipes...

I am essentially in need of a changing bag :(...nappy sized pads, industrial tampons, wipes, kitchen roll gah.

Maybe I should just wear a hazmat suit to work or possibly just stay at home in the bath for 48 hours...

I haven't been back to the doctors since falling apart with PND. Tbh I think I am scared....

I am still bleeding ahem elsewhere as well which I should probably get looked at

So it that level of bleeding not normal then?

GET TO THE DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY IF NOT SOONER that level of bleeding is not normal. Not sure where else you are bleeding from (rectal?), blood belongs inside your body, especially if it is not menstrual.
Go back and ask for some help. You'll be anaemic soon, if you aren't already

Get0rfMoiLand · 01/05/2012 13:09

Bless you Sad

I think if you can bear it you should go back to a (nice! sympathetic!) doctor and speak to him about your periods, it sounds horrible. Changing a tampon every hour is not normal surely.

Like I say my mother has lived with being on her period 2 weeks out of 4 and having to ensure she is never far from a loo for years and years (says it is a women's thing and she refuses to go to the hospital). But I think in this day and age you should get it looked at.

entropygirl · 01/05/2012 13:09

hmm mooncup also looks good...but I can't imagine washing it at work...the whole problem is no wash basins inside the cubicles...

This level of bleeding is not normal. You need to see a doctor.

Heyyyho · 01/05/2012 13:09

where on earth else are you bleeding from?

donnie · 01/05/2012 13:10

you need tranexamic acid for the bleeding. Badger your GP to prescribe it, it's brilliant.

CointreauVersial · 01/05/2012 13:11

Mooncup is NOT good if you want to avoid a bloodbath. OK if you have a light flow, but way more messy.

Get0rfMoiLand · 01/05/2012 13:11

Bollocks to the mooncup if you are bleeding at that rate.

EldonAve · 01/05/2012 13:12

you need to see your GP asap

kohl · 01/05/2012 13:12

Oh, man. You really need to go to your gp ASAP, this doesn't sound right.

entropygirl · 01/05/2012 13:14

yes yes out of my arse Blush not much you understand but pretty much every time....

I always used to have heavy efforts but since childbirth it has been MENTAL. I am wondering if my cervix has essentially stretched, so all the blood gets out over a shorter period of time?

Feeling embarrassed not have thought of wipes...I guess you get into a routine after going through this shit for 15 odd years and then fail to adapt when the pattern changes.

Okay so how do I go to the doctors when I get a total stomach falling out sensation even thinking about white coats let alone the idea of letting them anywhere near my womb ever again? (bad birth experience....)

OP posts:
boredandrestless · 01/05/2012 13:15

bloody hell woman get to the doctor.

I was sympathetic with the menstrual bleeding as I have heavy periods too (but not to this extreme), but reading you are bleeding from 'elsewhere' too Shock

You need to see a doctor. Please book an appointment now - by order of mumsnet!

entropygirl · 01/05/2012 13:15

Also speak more quietly and slowly guys...if this ends up on most active I will die from shame....

Shit too late....MN grrrrrrrrrrr

Get0rfMoiLand · 01/05/2012 13:18

Have you got someone who can go to the drs with you to give you some much needed strength and support?

I am sorry as I can imagine that you don't want ANYONE looking at your nethers having had a bad experience in childbirth, but heavy periods + bleeding from your rear end means that you really do need some attention.

Have you had some support for your PND and bad childbirth experience?

It's so sad that you are too scared to go to the docs - I have read some lovely MNers give similar advice about such things, hopefully someone will be along soon who is more knowledgeable than me (not hard).

ripsishere · 01/05/2012 13:18

If it ends up on most active would it force you to go to the doctor?
If you have a DP or DH ask them to go with you for moral support. If not for the periods, the rectal bleeding.
Do you strain when you pass solids? is it possibly a haemhorroid?

DialsMavis · 01/05/2012 13:20

Deffo Docs I am afraid (I hate going too, for a variety of reasons). My periods were as heavy as yours for the first few after DD but they are gradually getting better (I only have to sleep on a towel for the 1st 2 nights now). I also bled from elsewhere for a a week or 2 after having DD. But yours has gone on too long, please promise you will go?

NoraHelmer · 01/05/2012 13:21

Ring your GP right away. I had a bad womb infection after DD was born (emergency c-section) and was passing bad blood clots to the point where I thought I was going to pass out. I had to go back into hospital to be prescribed antibiotics to clear it up. Just check you haven't got an infection. Hope you get sorted out soon, and please come back and tell us when you've been. Good luck.
