How do I get out of loo without being covered in blood?

So I am having really REALLY heavy intense menstrual bleeding since giving birth a year ago and I find a) I have to change tampons every hour b) I don't seem to be able to do this without getting blood all over my hands....

No obvs I wipe up my hands as best I can but I am really really embarrassed about having bloody hands till I can get to the sink and wash them properly.

What can I do?

Just a thought, but having dealt with the same problem as you for many years & recently posted a question to do with fluid retention & other symptoms on here & getting a very interesting response including this link left by RockinD

www.thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_the_thyroid/hypothyroidism_signs_symptoms.htmlhere

I noticed that the bleeding problems you mention both show up as Thyroid symptoms, as does anxiety etc & without knowing if you have any other symptoms figured the link & symptom list is something you should also take a good look at

Good luck getting it all sorted & please do see a GP

gah things getting worse...not physically...but I just cancelled dr.s appointment.

I am going to see counsellor soon so maybe she can help me get to the point of being able to pop into the doctors like a normal person....

Thanks for the thyroid info...thyroid problems actually run in my family so I feel a bit thick for not considering it!

You really must see a Dr fit that amount of blending & so if it's rectal bleeding. In my experience counsellors aren't that good & aren't medics so won't be able to advise you, you could be anaemic & need further lid tests. You could have fibroids or endometriosis. If you could maybe go to the family planning clinic you see a nurse first who wil give you a long consult then you can request to see a female Dr who I'd usually much more sympathetic. You don't want to make things worse by delaying treatment.

Blood tests

rockinhippy · 03/05/2012 14:25

Can you not get someone to explain to the Drs receptionist & get a GP to visit you - might make it more bearable

Thyroids in my family too, lots of it & realise from the link it was very likely the cause of my bleeding problems - seen GP lots over it but still not diagnosed, hat Thyroid tests too, but basic tests can be unreliable - so make sure you read up on the tests that they need to do on the diagnosis link on the left side & list blood tests - it does sound a very likely cause of a lot of your problems

Julialyne · 03/05/2012 15:00

For that amount of bleeding

ifeelloved · 03/05/2012 15:03

You must go to the doctor to get this checked out. If not for you then your family

narmada · 04/05/2012 13:50

I came across your search while looking for info on wierd, heavy periods. Our circumstances are similar in that I also went through awful PND after birth of second child (who is now 18 months old) and also was VERY reluctant to go back to GP after getting treatment for it.

If you're anything like me you will be feeling v unhappy about going back because a) the doctors' surgery was probably the pinnacle of your unhappiness during an already difficult time and b) you might be a bit embarrassed because the people there have seen you at your absolutely most vulnerable. I might have got it completely wrong but I know that's what I felt when I had to go back for something. It's not nice :(

If you want to PM me for a chat, do :)

entropygirl · 08/05/2012 19:42

okay so I have an appointment...tomorrow 9:20am

I also have butterflies when I think about it.

Must must must stay away from the phone!

narmada your comment really struck a chord - I hadn't thought of it that way, but I did have some truly excruciating conversations about pnd with various doctors, all armed with the totally pointless edinburgh test....I think there may be a certain amount of not wishing to revisit the scene of humiliation.
Hope you are well now!

Good luck

narmada · 09/05/2012 16:54

Entropygirl how did it go? HOpe it was OK.

I am totally fine now, thanks. No more babies for me and DH though :)

entropygirl · 09/05/2012 21:41

Hey all! I made it!

Cried all over the doctor...and then some more when she suggested a coil...but came out with prescriptions which is almost as good as cured!

thanks for all the support.

Well done for going. I hope things improve for you soon.

Are they giving you a blood test to rule out thyroid problems etc?

hattifattner · 09/05/2012 21:48

well done! we are so silly, arent we, - we put off and put off and get all embarrassed and daft - good for you for seeing your GP and I hope you feel better soon! If it doesnt get better on whatever you have been given, please promise yourself that you will go back to the GP. Just because its womens problems doesnt mean you have to put up with it.

SmileItsSunny · 19/05/2012 22:06

Well done entropy!

totallypearshaped · 21/05/2012 01:02
