I'm sure this isn't where it belongs but MOONCUPS

I am a newbie when it comes to MOONCUPS ....

I have some questions if any one can answer them for me i would really appreciate it.

  1. Did you cut off all the stem?

  2. Should i be able to feel the mooncup in me? And also should i be able to reach it without the stem?

  3. Do i need to wear a pad with it?

  4. I feel uncomfortable but then i never used tampons so maybe its just my body getting used to it.

TIA

Ok, best to trim the stem initially and see how you get on. In the end I trimmed the whole of my stem off and could reach it no problems and it was more comfortable like that. I could feel it to start with but actually once it settles I'd find it really comfortable. I needed to wear a panty liner til I realised if you twist it when you put in, it doesn't leak! I'd persevere for a bit, I came to really like it!

SilveryMoon · 23/04/2012 19:59

I loved mine.
Only stopped using it because I had a coil fitted and now don't have periods, whoo-hoo Grin

Like faith I wore a liner/pad for the first few cycles just until I got used to how often to empty it etc.
I started off by just trimming a bot off the stem, but this was a bit uncomfortable (although someone later told me to use a nail file to round off the end of the stem), and it leaked a bit to start. I then looked at the website and read that if it leaks, it could be that the cup is too high up, so I cut the whole stem off and it was perfect.
The only time I had trouble reaching it was first thing in the morning when I got up.
Stick with it, maybe just trim off a bit and see how it goes, then if needs be, a bit more and a bit more until it feels right.

cookielove · 23/04/2012 19:59

I've trimmed it completely as it was to uncomfortable with it there like it was catching me, but i've taken it out for now as it was just to painful overall.

SilveryMoon · 23/04/2012 20:01

cookie It def shouldn't be painful. Have you got hte right size?
maybe you are putting it in at the wrong angle for your body?
I found mine wouuld be a bit uncomfortable unless I angled it to the back and side iyswim?

bronze · 23/04/2012 20:01

Tried completely
Not used pads but can understand for getting use to it

Love mine it's changed my
Life

SilveryMoon · 23/04/2012 20:04

If you can't get along with the mooncup, what about these sea-pearl sponges?

cookielove · 23/04/2012 20:04

I'm thinking wrong angle, i put it in and thought 'oh wow, thats not to bad' then i sat down and it felt like i had something stabbing me. I got the size it told me to get (a), i wanted the smaller one as i thought that would be easier but i'm not sure how big a size b is any way oh i'm Confused

I wore one for years and loved it. It takes a while to get the position right and bear in mind your body will change over time. A year after my first child I swapped to the bigger size mooncup but need a pad in the first day or so because I can't seem to stop the leak!

HandMadeTail · 23/04/2012 20:08

I started using mine on Sunday. I am sometimes aware of it, but it isn't at all painful or uncomfortable. I haven't trimmed it yet, and actually, I'm not sure if I need to. (big fanjo, maybe? Confused )

kalidasa · 23/04/2012 20:09

I have used one for years, really love it. (Though pregnant at the mo.) I am pretty small down there and needed to take the stem almost completely off to stop it hurting. Personally when it is in place I can't reach the actual cup properly, though I can feel the base of the stem. I bear down and sort of use my muscles to push it down a bit to get hold of it to remove. This is in any case easier when it's full. I also remove it by sliding in one finger from both hands - I could never do it with just one hand, always too painful at the entrance to my vagina. One finger from each hand in a pincer movement is what worked for me.

The first time I put it in it took me about an hour to get it out which was slightly stressful! But it is really worth persevering.

cookielove · 23/04/2012 20:14

I can def feel it really well so i must not be putting it in high enough, i really don't want to try again, maybe i'll try again tomorrow!!

OP posts:
SilveryMoon · 23/04/2012 20:36

Yes, def leave it for tonight at least.
Too much fumbling with it down there will just aggrivate the area ao you won't be able to get it comfortable.
Try again tomorrow or wednesday.
It really is worth sticking with though

cookielove · 23/04/2012 20:37

I will def stick with it!!

Thank you everyone for the support Grin

No, don't try now. As Silvery said you'll make yourself sore if you keep fiddling with it and you'll also clench up more if you're tense making it even harder.

If you have some lube or KY jelly that can help, if you're struggling to relax enough to get it in then Blush using a vibrator or something can help, just to relax things down there.

I have about 3mm of stem left on mine. I found when it was longer I got the stabby/poking feeling when I sat down. I also get this if it's too low. How long did you have it in for? I found I could always feel mine when I first started using it but I used to put it in and then spend an hour or so doing standing-up moving-about things, like cleaning the kitchen and hanging out the washing (squatting helps so anything which requires bending down and standing up) With all the movement it seemed to shift it to the right place so I couldn't feel it at all. I promise it does get easier though and within 3 months I could get it in right without even trying.

It shouldn't poke out of your vagina at all. You should be able to hypothetically be naked and nobody be able to see or notice it at all.

When I put mine in it is often too low but I find if I wiggle it up (which can feel a bit strange but not uncomfortable, now I'm used to it) it gets into the right place.

BertieBotts · 23/04/2012 20:46

Really helps if you're comfortable with getting your fingers right inside yourself, as well. Takes a while to get used to the blood, but you can always wash your hands.

msrisotto · 23/04/2012 20:51
  1. I did cut off all of the stem

  2. You should be able to reach it without the stem, I find that if it is in properly, i don't feel it.

  3. I don't except on the heavy days i might wear a liner

  4. I hated tampons but love my mooncup.

I panicked the first time when i didn't feel i could get it out, it was easier to reach when i leant back.

cookielove · 23/04/2012 20:54

Well the good thing is i am fine with the blood, so no problem there for me.

I think after discussing it now, i'm not putting it in high enough, i will try doing the squats and moving around thing tomorrow, although i am back at work tomorrow so that will be interesting (private nursery)

I tried it with some ky earlier, which helped some what but i kept putting it in then pulling it out so i think i was causing trauma to my body which is never a good thing, also the ky is caused it to be very slippy, which was fun Grin

  1. Did you cut off all the stem? Yes, yes, yes. That was what the stabby thing was.

  2. Should i be able to feel the mooncup in me? No.

And also should i be able to reach it without the stem? Yes, but sometimes I can only just reach it. Bearing down like pushing out a baby will move it lower so you can grab it.

  1. Do i need to wear a pad with it? No. Ugh, hate pads. It should form a seal round your vagine. No blood should theoretically get round.

  2. I feel uncomfortable but then i never used tampons so maybe its just my body getting used to it.

Hmm. I think it's not in right. Mine was uncomfortable at first - but that was because it wasn't in right. Practice. I promise once you have cracked it they are a dream.

cookielove · 23/04/2012 20:59

Oh no, i've never pushed a baby out!!

OP posts:
msrisotto · 23/04/2012 21:03

LOL I tried using lube and dropped it down the toilet! More than once! I run it under the tap first and that helps.

I sometimes put it in too low and realise when I walk away and (when at home, in my jim jams) I can push it a bit higher and it seems to pop into place.

UniS · 23/04/2012 21:03

I have gradually cut off most of the stem.
I "feel" it when its getting full.
I do wear a pad with it on heavy flow days not on light flow days , I'm pretty regular in my flow pattern. In fact, on very heavy days I don't use a moon cup as its only good for about 30 mins, while a super dupper extra large tampon gets me through a couple of hours.

cookielove · 23/04/2012 21:27

I did try the pushing up, but i think i was tensing at that point and nothing was gonna help me.

OP posts:
BertieBotts · 23/04/2012 21:34

Yes I never use lube on it now, a little bit of water if I'm at home or if not then the blood is lube enough, TBH.

Pushing a baby out is exactly the same movement as pushing out a poo. If you've ever been constipated, do that kind of pushing! If it's full you should be able to push it nearer to the entrance by doing a few pushes, and then you'll need to grab it as it will kind of "spring" back up between them.

YY if you tense nothing will get in there!

When I put mine in I'm usually grabbing near the top of it between finger & thumb, and they both go in right up to the knuckle. I do have small hands, but am guessing that hands will be in proportion to ladyparts...? Confused I have no idea, but yeah.
