Don't want this to sound like an insensitive thread title it's just I'm going to see the doctor about these problems and was wondering what might happen. Sad

Hi cat, I had a lump on My neck a couple of years ago, which they had to investigate, because all the symptoms that i was getting was the ones of lymphoma. I had a biopsy and a scan, but that wasn't enough for them to rule out cancer, so I had to have the lymph gland removed, which took Me a few weeks to recover from. anyway it wasn't cancer, so try not to worry, eventhough I know it's hard not to.

lostinpants · 08/03/2012 15:07

Had two suspicious moles removed, the biggest & lumpiest was harmless, the small one was a non malignant cancer. Removing is a quick in/out procedure, one was done at my GPs. It is important to check them out.

cardamomginger · 08/03/2012 15:09

I had a suspicious thing on my ankle. Some GP practices have a clinic where they deal with this sort of thing themselves. Mine didn't, so I was referred to see a consultant dermatologist. He looked at it, decided that it was a bit suspicious, but probably nothing sinister. I had an appointment to have it removed under local and he sent it off to the lab. I needed a few stitches, which were removed 10 days later by the consultant although I had the option to have them removed at the GP. The results were back by the time my appointment to have the stitches out, and it turned out to be completely benign and dull. This was all done privately, so the timings might be a bit quicker than you'd get on the NHS, but the principal will be the same. Oh, when I went for the initial consultant's appointment he did a full body check to see if there was anything else dodgy lurking. Wasn't at all creepy - I only had bits of me uncovered when he was looking at them, I wasn't standing there starkers Grin. You are quite right to get this sorted! Good luck!

paddyclamp · 08/03/2012 15:14

Hell yes! Have had a few dodgy moles removed, all of which were benign.... Also have had a few breast lumps needle biopsied and they were all benign too!

What is it that you have Blackcat?

BlackCatTryingToFly · 08/03/2012 15:57

The lump is in an embarrassing place Blush --I have been putting off going-- but am going to do it this time. If I say B cheek would you understand where I mean Blush

I have had various moles that have altered and suddenly looked funny. Each time the Dr books me in to have them removed at his very minor procedure clinic. Each time benign.

B cheek surgery is the fav of most Dr's! Smile. Wear pretty knickers and smile. Be proud of your B cheek. Is it the left or right?

BlackCatTryingToFly · 08/03/2012 16:07

Pancakeflipper Does it matter which cheek? Shock Grin

Pancakeflipper · 08/03/2012 16:09

Yes Grin

(why do I now feel like a perv regarding your B cheeks? Is no-one else interested?)

BlackCatTryingToFly · 08/03/2012 16:20

Pancake Didn't want to make you feel like a perv, just wondered why it matters?

OP posts:
Pancakeflipper · 08/03/2012 16:25

It doesn't matter at all.

I have obviously eaten too many Dolly Mixtures this afternoon and had a giddy sugar rush.

Get yourself to the Dr's. You know they have seen it all before. Will you need a comfy cushion to sit on if they remove it?

2kidsintow · 08/03/2012 21:58

I've gone with concerns and it has been nothing.

My sister has gone with concerns and it was precancerous and was removed quickly. No follow up treatment. No ongoing problems.

My cousin went and hers was cancerous and needed removal and a follow up skin graft in the area.

Sometimesiwonder · 09/03/2012 14:26

I have a friend who has gone and her mole was a skin cancer of the most aggressive sort - but it was removed and she is absolutely fine with no recurrence. Going to get it checked is v, v sensible and will not be as embarrassing as you think.

lisad123 · 10/03/2012 14:34

I have had 2 removed over the years, they have been fine.
I have an appointment on monday to ask GP about one of my arm which over the last month has gone scabby and grown :(

RedHotPokers · 10/03/2012 21:17

My GP has referred me to a consultant dermatologist, for a mole on my back.
I am the mole-iest person ever. Have tons and tons of them - some big, some small. I get them checked every 6-12 months by my GP (who has a specialism in dermatology), and this is the first time I have ever been referred. Am shitting myself its something serious.

Its SO hard to keep on top of mole changes when you have so many - and at least half are on my back which doesn't help. Sad

BlackCatTryingToFly · 12/03/2012 13:47

I am trying to put it to the back of my mind but it is hard. My appointment is tomorrow and I am quite scared!

Sorry for those of you where it hasn't been good news.

lisad do you mind me asking how your appointment went?

OrmIrian · 12/03/2012 14:18

Had a lump removed from my belly a few years ago. They suspected it was just a fatty lump but sent it for biopsy and so it proved. Also had a large bleeding and seeminly growing mole removed from my back - again it proved to be nothing serious.

bessie26 · 12/03/2012 14:29

DH has loads of moles & ends up going to the Drs every couple of years to get one or two checked out. He had some that were sticking up removed a few years ago (not sure how, but the GP did it) as they were getting aggrivated by his collar.

Last month his chiropracter noticed that the big oddly shaped one on his back had gone a bit crispy so he went to see Dr. They had a good look & noticed that he had alot more than when they looked 2 years ago, and quite a few were getting bigger so he got referred to the dermatologist.

He saw them a week later, but they said everything was fine, apparently the crispy one was nothing to worry about (this was a fortnight ago & it's gone back to normal now), and the really weird looking one, that he has had for at least 10 years... the one that looked a bit like someone had stabbed him with a blue biro.... is a HUGE blackhead! That I then had to squeeze

cardamomginger · 12/03/2012 14:37

Bessie I live to squeeze large blackheads Grin.

carrotsandcelery · 12/03/2012 14:45

Dh had a couple of suspicious ones the year dd was born. The GP removed them in the surgery and he had a couple of stitches in each one. I was unsympathetic as had had a big tear delivering dd and had been in agony with my stitches so his titchy little ones didn't make me feel sorry for him.

I will be sympathetic with yours though BC since you are my friend and not my dh Grin

I think it is really common and something the GP deals with regularly. He may just monitor them or he may remove them and send them away. Dh's were sent off but were just moles and nothing sinister.

Dd has one on her scalp and the GP just took a little photo next to a ruler as a guide to keep in his notes. We took a photo next to a ruler too so we can monitor it at home and know if we feel it needs to be checked out again.

carrotsandcelery · 12/03/2012 14:46

bessie I too would have shot my hand up at that opportunity Grin

lisad123 · 12/03/2012 14:52

appointment was fine black Grin
shes taken measurements and wants to see me again in 4-6 weeks but on instruction to come back if it starts to itch, grows bigger or starts to bleed.

bessie26 · 12/03/2012 14:52

It was a 10 YEAR OLD blackhead. I was terrified at what was going to pop out (I considered wearing safety specs) - In the end it was quite uneventful, just a very very hard white "worm' oozed out

carrotsandcelery · 12/03/2012 15:00

I am Envy bessie.

You can see why ds has mental health problems really Blush

lisad123 · 12/03/2012 15:04

Our GP can't remove them now so have to go to hospital Hmm
Hoping your ok op
