I'll apologise in advance for TMi but I haven't had a poo for 14 days

Blush

I have on going gynae problems that leave me hideously constipated after ovulation.

I have had IBS in the past and I am wary of using a laxative that is too strong.

I have tried all the things to eat and drink that usually help.

Any gentle suggestions?

Hot bath to help relax the sphincter?

Sorry :( it sounds rubbish.

cocolepew · 01/03/2012 15:48

I had to laugh at this in active convos with your name after it bran!

I shall speak to them in my sternest voice. Not eating much at the moment.

I don't think there's any room for anything else!

Well, MIL used to give her DC a soap suppository when they were potty training thus making them poo on demand Shock Angry

Might that be worth a try? Hope something works soon.

Oh no, bran makes me worse Shock.

I think I'm going to have to venture with a laxative. DD is ill and not going to school tomorrow so I can stay near the loo.

God how embarassing.

A massage or a trip to an osteopath can help.

SwivellingDicksTidyWife · 01/03/2012 15:58

OK you need to tackle this from both ends I think.

If you feel like there is rock hard poo in your bottom that won't shift, I would recommend suppositories, you can get them from the chemist - you want either bisocodyl or glycerine ones. That will soften and shifts what is there. Keep them in for at least half an hour while you lie on the bed to let them melt and work.

Top end - you need to take something to get it moving. I would go for lactulose initially, it fairly gentle and a softener, it may take a few days to work and you can take more or less as you need it.

Dried apricots, fruits, LOTS of fluids incl fresh OJ or apple juice all very good. Avoid too much cheese or white bread.

HettyKett · 01/03/2012 15:58

Awful I know! But, it'd only irritate your arse rather than the whole digestive system...

SwivellingDicksTidyWife · 01/03/2012 15:59

Oh and Ouch you must be uncomfortable by now.

Seona1973 · 01/03/2012 16:00

curry, spicy fajitas and chicken wings made with piri piri seasoning all have me running for the toilet in the morning (might sting though!)

toddlerama · 01/03/2012 16:01

Glycerine suppositories and lots of fluids. It's got to come out some time...

blooblies · 01/03/2012 16:04

glycerin suppositories. fast and painlessly effective.

cocolepew · 01/03/2012 16:08

Oh. My. God.

I have had some, erm, movement since starting this thread!

You are medically masters! Grin

There is movicol in my cupboard, it was prescribed for dd but we never used it, i wonder if that would do? There is lactulose there too, but it's been in there for 3 years (the cupboard I'm talking about now) Wink

Thanks everyone Smile

I'm going to get the glycerin suppositories as well, do you have to ask for them?

Take some exercise? A gentle jog, swim or walk? Unless you're actually ill of course. What went in must come out.

Jammygal · 01/03/2012 20:42

Fybogel twice a day, dulcoease. ???? Movical good too and lactulose ;)

swooosh · 01/03/2012 20:45

warm fresh orange juice and a spoonful of brown sugar Wink

2old2beamum · 01/03/2012 21:18

Prune juice works wonders once you get going. Movicol is just magic to get you going.
I hope you are farting.
