what to do?? Have tried tea tree oil, baby oil, special shampoos/conditioner, nitty gritty comb and 4 weeks later the buggers not gone from my hair! Ds1 generally clear as short hair so easy but mine is thick & shoulder-length and short of forcing dh to comb thro it every other night, don't know what to do. Can't seem to do a good job myself - poor 6 mth baby has had them too! I've checked various more chemical-based products in Boots and pharmacists told me not to use them, even just on me. Fed up (and itchy...)!

wet combing needs to be every 4 days for 2 weeks - if not the infestation will not clear as the eggs laid are not removed by combing, only the lice themselves. So you need to wait for all lice to hatch, that is why it takes 2 weeks.

and if the lice get bigger instead of progressively smaller you need to start again on your 2 week mission as this means your child has caught new ones again!

Combing really does work if you stick to the schedule - I recommend the "bug busting" kits!

Bioforce do a herbal one called Neem Riddance, its a shampoo. We sell bucket loads of it in my wee health shop. everyone has come back to say how wonderful it is, it seems to work every time. lice will never become resistant to it. so far we haven't had a single complaint!

if you do get rid of them, you could try Biz Niz leave in conditioner, rub a tiny bit into hair every morning. it repells lice and reduces the chance of catching them again. Ds has been using it since starting preschool in september and so far no lice. the rest of you family could use it to prevent catching your lice at the moment.

they are both in health shops.
