I agree that you should take her to the doctor and tell them everything you have told us. Write it down if you think you might forget something when you are there.

If you are concerned about iron make sure she eats a fortified cereal and a little fresh orange juice with it as it helps to absorb the iron. You no doubt know this if you have problems yourself.

My ds had problems when he was little and had lots of tests and it turned out his iron was low. Once that was sorted so was he. I wouldn't attempt to diagnose myself though as the docs weren't sure without tests themselves.

If you have a bad gut feeling you will not settle until you are given an educated answer.

Good luck and big (((hugs))).

You can't get an appointment for a young child for a week? That's terrible. Ring back docs and explain it can't wait that long....

trace2 · 03/02/2012 09:57

thank you she dont eat by mouth much and is fed by gastric peg and as neocate advance and active plus vit and minerals so she she be getting it all plus she drinks bits of juice, i have been writing down plus the hospital knows most as they seen her a few times over weeks but she as got worse since wed this week , we have tried to avoid blood tests up till now but think there going to have to do one now!

Does your local hospital have a walk in clinic? I would consider taking her to A&E if not. She really needs to be assessed by a doctor as soon as possible.

goingtoofast · 03/02/2012 09:58

DOes she have a pead, can you call them for advice?

trace2 · 03/02/2012 10:13

DS is 4 and was having similar symptoms. He turned out to be both anaemic and coeliac. I would ask for a blood test for both of these.

trace2 · 03/02/2012 12:18

i will be asking for one red thanks hope you son is ok now, have they sorted him out?

OP posts:
redridingwolf · 03/02/2012 12:22

The iron supplements for the anaemia helped a lot. The coeliac has only just been diagnosed, so we will soon be going on a gluten-free diet which should make a big difference by all accounts.

For the last year (since the anaemia was found), the paed thought that his continued tiredness (though not as bad as before) was just post-viral, or because he'd started nursery etc. I was sure there was something more, and eventually they did the coeliac test and found that he had that. If I'd known about coeliac I would have asked for the test earlier, but I didn't - we happened to change paeds and the new one did the test.

Let us know how your DD does. Wishing you all the best.

carrotsandcelery · 03/02/2012 18:39

I hope you get some useful answers quickly trace. I am glad she is being seen quickly and will be checked thoroughly.

Good luck to both of you.

well took dd up to hospital she as been a nightmare and nastiness its not like her running around like a mad un, the doc looked at us gone mad, bringing the devil child hereShock so i dont know what got into her ? screamed wanting to come homeSad anyway they said they going to watch her overnight and if they think shes needs a blood test they will , but if she shows no pain will we come home no wiser, i did try talking to here she said her poorly makes her angry Hmm is this normal behaviour ?

OP posts:
carrotsandcelery · 03/02/2012 22:10

Oh dear trace that sounds a really difficult situation.

My dd went nuts in the hospital once when she was 3 (nearly 4) and they were prepping her for a drip. She wasn't just a bit awkward, she went nuts Blush

I think it was either total terror or feeling so so so grotty she just didn't want anyone else near her.

I was mortified but the nurses had all the tactics and just took it in their stride.

So in answer to your question, yes I think at times, it is normal behaviour. My dd is a lovely wee girl normally (and 10yo now and would be Blush if she saw a rerun of what she did)

Hopefully tomorrow will be a new day. (((hugs)))

Clara35 · 04/02/2012 20:00

How is your dd today?

trace2 · 04/02/2012 20:09

Poor littletrace. Let us know how both of you get on.

trace2 · 07/02/2012 18:54

well dd blood tests back crp came back with just highly raised her fbc could not be done dried up before they could test do we ask for an other test? dh answered the phone and they asked what she was like and he just said a little better , but then we didn't know she dropped to sleep at school today[:(] and dd never do that when shes ok if you know what i mean! but was a night mare to get the blood do we really need to get more?

OP posts:
FarloRigel · 08/02/2012 10:12

I'd get more, if she's anaemic it's important to know and if she's pale it's definitely a possibility. They can do just a fbc from a thumb prick if there's a member of staff on who knows what they're doing, they don't really need a proper needle in a vein for that alone. I know, my DD has had them done that way many, many times! Go and get it done, you'll feel a lot better knowing.

trace2 · 08/02/2012 15:44

FarloRigel i know we should get an other she slept all night woke up really nasty because she not coping with being tired:( we put her in car for school and fell asleep again took her out of car and in to school and took her coat off while she slept, did ring up at 1145 and been told she had two rests in morning i am really worried, the doctor don't think she anaemic its me who thinks thats what it is.

OP posts:
FarloRigel · 08/02/2012 18:03

Hope you get it sorted out really soon, it's such a shame when you have to be assertive to get things checked out for your child and can't just trust them to do everything they can to make them better without prodding Sad.

With a raised CRP at least you know there's something on the go, whether it's an infection or another source of inflammation, but that doesn't guarantee there's no anaemia as well, so I'd be on their case, personally, until they sort this out. If you still have a gut feeling it's not right, would you consider heading for A&E tonight and saying she seems even paler and you were too concerned to wait for the morning? It would only take a couple of hours to get a full blood count back within the hospital. At least then you'd have some more peace of mind.

Hope this is fixed soon, there's nothing more stressful than concern about your child is there? Sad

trace2 · 08/02/2012 18:57

thanks again picked dd up seems hyper this afternoon but it dont last long, but still very pale, spoke to dh we going to see how she is tomorrow and phone her pead to talk to him! we know dd not telling us every thing because she says they blood her( she means a blood test) i really hate her having to have it done again, we found out she also lost a few pounds in weight in last few weeks and she really can not afford to loss any more she only weighs 28lb:(
