oww mousy. my sis has asthma and broke 3 ribs coughing. she was put onto higher inhalers. but your not asthmatic?

accidentprawn · 20/01/2012 15:39

i have calcium deficnecy :( it could be why my bones are rubbish and break easily. am on a high dose of vit d3.

soaccidentprone · 20/01/2012 17:42

Bloody hell - You're going to need to be v careful from now on. No more trapping fingers in car doors, walking into climbing frames, slipping down stairs! (or is that just me Grin

Is there anything else they can do - thought you might be taking calcium tablets as well, or did they tell you to up your intake of natural calcium?

Look after yourself and try and eat healthily while you're off.

mousyMouse · 20/01/2012 17:56

I was told that the calcium in my diet is enough but that it is no use for the body without vit d3.
pre-digested milk products are best (yoghurt, mature cheese), followed by green veg.

accidentprawn · 20/01/2012 19:03

so! its not just you!! i trapped fingers in car door other week, they blistered!
mousy: i was told i eat enough calcium but its no good! i will eat more predigested milk products. if im good they might reduce the dose in about six months!

Reenypip · 20/01/2012 20:47

I was in a accident 5 years ago, broke both my feet, 3 spinal vertebrae and had a spinal cord injury. I've had to learn to adapt over the years and had intense rehab. I had my first baby last year , and I'm still learning every day how to adapt being in a wheelchair and a mum.

accidentprawn · 21/01/2012 08:11

reenypip i am so sorry. i don`t know what to say. you are an insparation to us all proving that you can be a mother and be in a wheelchair, Here i am on crutches not coping at all and you are in a wheelchair and coping!

accidentprawn · 22/01/2012 10:55

they are puttng me in a moonboot on monday. my break is healing nicely.
the downside is i go back to work as soon as im in moonboot! oh noo! time of was nice but i will go back to work and sit on my bum attempt to teach sewing!

soaccidentprone · 22/01/2012 11:44

Well that's good - and bad Sad.

At least you'll be able to get around and be independent. You'll need some thick stretchy socks to go over your tootsies and a bit of your pot otherwise you'll have blue toes!

Have you sorted out how you're getting to and from work? I hope you're going back on a phased return, and that a risk assessment has been done for you?

Even now I cannot evacuate (in case of fire etc) where I work with everyone else, as I can't walk down the stairs as quickly as everyone else. I have to wait in the refuge area to be 'rescued'. We haven't had a fire drill (or the real thing) since my return to work - I've been waiting for a firefighter to come and evacuate me Grin

Good luck

accidentprawn · 23/01/2012 17:50

im in the moonboot now.
popped into m&s on way home from the hospital have some lovely (not!) walking type socks.

they have done a risk assesment for me and i have to go to a refuge area when there is a fire drill to wait to be rescued!

AND there is a fire drill tommorow when i go back. i am only p/t normally but am doing 2 days a wk till im healed up. I was just starting f/t before my accident and will be going to that when im better.

i have had a good rest and i am in a way looking forward to going back. thanks for the good luck wish.

will post after my... return!

accidentprawn · 24/01/2012 16:06

i am back!
today we had a fire drill and i had to sit in a refuge area for 1/2 an hour like a lemon!!

i managed to teach my lessons but the consuquence board was sadly used more than i would like. Its not easy to teach with one foot!!
Some pupils ( the ones with manners!) opened doors , carried things- just helping me.

am at work still waiting for a neighbour to come to drive me home as the DR wants me to be used to the moonboot first then i can progress onto driving.

accidentprawn · 24/01/2012 19:00

i am home!
seem to be getting to grips quite well with the boot. have made a tea that didn`t involve throwing something in the oven - pasta!
shower/bath what do i do?

accidentprawn · 25/01/2012 15:43

i put my limbo over it at the moment when i shower. is that right?

soaccidentprone · 26/01/2012 20:24

Sounds fine to me. I just used a large carrier bag and some rubber bands - but I was sitting on my special NHS bath seat, and keeping my foot up on the edge of the bath to be on the safe side.

Glad you're out and about, but try not to overdo it.

And try not to overeat/eat crap. I've put on about 1 1/2 stone since last April.

Maybe if you teach sewing you could embroider your sock? Or knit a really funky one? I started doing a cross stitch cushion cover, but it's doomed never to be finished unless I have another accident!

accidentprawn · 27/01/2012 15:44

ooh i never thought of that!
will starts knitting one tonight. what colours ? green and purple or red and orange? Funky enough :o

accidentprawn · 27/01/2012 15:46

am trying no to eat too much crap. last night we had a takeaway ( i know thats crap but cbb to make anything)

Tonight will be making chicken and rice for tea. is that healthy enough?

soaccidentprone · 27/01/2012 19:34

Was thinking something like this: www.peopletree.co.uk/women/accessories/socks/Recycled-Yarn-Long-Stripey-Socks

accidentprawn · 28/01/2012 07:17

i will order knit a pair like that! will start know...

soaccidentprone · 02/02/2012 17:09

Hope your sock is ready/ has arrived in time for this lovely cold weather Grin

How's your foot doing?

accidentprawn · 07/02/2012 17:14

my sock arrived! its so lovely.couldnt knit one didnt want to!!!

moonboot will be off soon . it does hurt and i haven`t gone outside since thursday due to weather.

soaccidentprone · 09/02/2012 21:00

Well at least now you've got something to keep your tootsies warm Grin. Hopefully you'll be out of the moonboot soon, and back on both feet. I found it took me quite a while to be able to walk 'properly'. The consultant said it would probably be around 2 years before it's completely better but I don't think your's would be anywhere near as long (I hope for your sake anyway).

I went to an NHS lower limb exercise class afterwards, which really helped.

accidentprawn · 12/02/2012 10:15

they think i will be out of the moonboot on the 27th. so 13 days before im back to normal.

sorry i haven`t posted in a while had a stomach bug, have been in bed.

soaccidentprone · 21/02/2012 17:17

Not long now - 6 days is it?.

To be able to lie in a warm bath! Expect your foot etc to look manky! Slightly withered muscles and v v pale and hairy. And a stiff ankle as you haven't been using it. And loads and loads of dead skin which I rubbed off in the bath and then slapped on body moisturiser.

You'll probably need to be referred for physio - though I had to wait 2 weeks which I thought was a bit rubbish Sad.

Hope you are otherwise well?

Smile
accidentprawn · 25/02/2012 07:49

It came of on monday! my foot looked horrible all grey , pale and so hairy!
feels great to be on two feet and cleaner!
Physio appointment is on thursday next week.

thank you so Flowers

soaccidentprone · 25/02/2012 14:09

Yeaaahhhh Grin

And not too long to wait for physio. Seem to remember it was quite painful being assessed (by masochistic physio!), and that I had exercises to do every day to work on flexibility.

I still have to do them every day as I don't have the full range of movement in my left foot as yet.
