My dh found finding other things to do helped alot getting ur hands to do things esp after a cuppa and food he went to the local stop smoking clinic really good having a good support around u helps but YOU need to want to quit not for others which why dh had failed before this time he chose to stop.Good luck to all find the thing that works for you not everyone can take or get on with pills etc x

FabbyChic · 02/01/2012 13:12

Will never give up smoking, its my only vice, I don't drink and drinking is actually worse for you.

MildlyMiserable · 02/01/2012 13:25

Wednesday for me, DS back to school and I'm back at work, have amassed various NRT but am thinking willpower. Not actually giving up anything (20 a day for 30 years) just getting back health, wealth and hopefully some oomph! Am going to do the money in a pot thing, and count the pounds like air miles, seeing how far not smoking takes me! :)

maristella · 02/01/2012 13:35

I haven't smoked today! I feel quite tense, more so after having my first meal (had a long lie in because I did not get up to smoke). My mouth feels a bit watery Confused

I had planned to use my nicotine gum but I saw yesterday that it is out of date, so I have gone cold turkey for now but I hope to get some gum this week to get me out here and there.

If I can get past 2 weeks then I will have done better than I have done for several years; I seem to hit a wall at 2 weeks......

I'm looking forward to my complexion being really good. I usually find that a couple of days after quitting my skin looks really good. Less wrinkles, I am getting smokers lines around my mouth (from my nose down to my mouth, and I'm starting to get cats bum mouth) Vanity might get me through this!!

MrsHoolie · 02/01/2012 13:55

Hi. It's been two weeks for me since my last fag.
I am using SkyCigs, they are great especially the cherry flavour.
Good luck everyone.

belcantwait · 02/01/2012 15:20

Hi can I join please? It's my first fag free day today. Didn't get up til late so morning was fine Grin but struggling a bit now.
Never 'wanted' to give up before just felt guilty as felt I ought to want to stop. Thinking of the dc is what's helping. I finally realised that I no longer enjoy it that is the key thing for me. Hoping to do it cold turkey eeeek

maristella · 02/01/2012 15:57

I've been struggling a bit this afternoon belcantwait

I feel like there has been a lack of punctuation in my day today, and I've had quite a few biscuits at the times that I would have smoked - thatg has to stop! I'm having cups of water instead of cigs so hopefully helping the detox process along. Also I seem to be rambling......

belcantwait · 02/01/2012 18:41

Ooh water instead sounds like a good idea :) I knowMost of my smoking is pure habit eg always have one walking to work or driving the car (on my own) or on way to pick up kids. No way I can avoid doing these things though so will have to maybe replace with something hmmmm maybe listening to my iPod (not quite so satisfying though!!)

Step away from the biscuits Grin!!!

McHappyPants2012 · 02/01/2012 23:00

Well today has been hard, feel snappy chest feels tight and all I thought of is getting hold of a cigarette.

Back in work tomorrow morning and I am dreading it

First commute with no smoking this morning Confused At least all that horrible rain won't be finding it's way through the car window....

Had a terrible nights sleep, I would go so far as to say it was not even half a nights sleep. What's that all about???? The weather didn't help later on during the night.

I've got a really long day of work, both main job and second job tonight. If I can go on autopilot that would be good.

McHappy the biggest challenge is definitely psychological. You need to occupy your mind. When I've quit before I ended up so unhappy it honestly was not worth it, so looking after my mental state through this is priority. Some people have no idea!

elliepac · 03/01/2012 07:55

I have just had my last cigarette. I am now a non smoker.

Wish me luckGrin.

Snapespeare · 03/01/2012 08:03

Could really do with a ciggie! Reading this thread instead. :) think I will take up knitting again, something to do with my hands....

Ifancyashandy · 03/01/2012 08:24

I'm on day three here. Not heavy smoker -only at weekends or if I go out for drink but I've realised how much I hate it. And when I'm with a friend who is a heavy smoker, and I've not had one for a few days, I realise how much it makes you STINK! And I don't want people to think that of me.

But in order to make it work for me, I'm giving up the booze for at least a month.

God, I hope it works!

giraffesCanGoFirstFootingOnNYE · 03/01/2012 10:30

Popping in to post support - keep going everyone

Dawndonna · 03/01/2012 11:56

Just got back from the pharmacy. I'm getting a spray tomorrow to cut down until I stop on Monday. I'm really worried but I want to do it. I was so miserable last time I tried. Fingers crossed!

Snapespeare · 03/01/2012 13:57

miserable but chewing sugar-free gum. Also feeling utterly narky and wholly irrational! :(

McHappyPants2012 · 03/01/2012 17:47

so emotianol, tired and snapping at the kids, i am now crying because they don't deserve it.

i want a fag so badly, will power is fading....can't be bothered to go out the get them though, so perhaps i will feel more positve in the morning.

OP posts:
maristella · 03/01/2012 18:38

Oh McHappy it's feels scary at times doesn't it? do you have anyone in RL who can support you and take your DC's off your hands a little? That's what I felt was missing every other time I have quit. Felt so isolated.

What I can tell you is that having a fag will not make everything better; I always got headaches whenever I would lapse, and they don't go, you just stop noticing them. It's not going to be the amazing, fix everything smoke you will want it to be, but it will have you reeled right back in again. If you can just stay calm and get through today :)

Need to get some gum. Do they still do free gum etc in chemists?

Nyx · 05/01/2012 08:52

Hi all. This flipping weather isn't helping, is it? DH and I are doing well, I think. We are on the patches and both seem to have made our minds up this time, so it seems to be working. Neither of us are making a big deal of it, really just getting on with things. Having said that, my ratty cowbag quotient (thanks Snapespeare, it really describes me!) has increased just in general I think - am telling myself its because DD/DH really are being more annoying than usual, but I would be a bit daft not to acknowledge that it's probably because I've recently quit smoking!

Good luck to all, stay strong, it will be REALLY worth it Grin

Snapespeare · 05/01/2012 10:12

the weather is helping a little as I feel less inclined to go outside and smoke in 100mph winds. :) nearly cracked yesterday. day 4 for me I think? sheer hell. I know it gets worse every time i give up, it honestly does - I should recall how this feels if i am ever tempted to smoke gaain. :(
