Starting tomorrow.
Cutting down on sugar and fat.
Increasing water, fruit and veg.
A little bit of exercise each day - even a walk round the block!
No coffee or alcohol!
Anyone in?

I'm in!

Cutting out alcohol
Cutting down on carbs
More water, fruit and veg
Less caffeine
Exercise 4 x week.

I want to lose a stone and generally feel healthier Smile

Just as well we are starting tomorrow - I had pancakes with maple syrup and crispy bacon for brunch - and roast pork for dinner Blush

verybusyspider · 01/01/2012 20:54

oh me! I was just going to post a detox for caffine thread as we ran out of coffee yesterday so I didn't have any today and ended up in bed with a migrain type of headache and was sick and had a lame new year so no drink was involved! - I think it was the caffine Sad totally self infliced! How to detox without making myself sick then is the question....
I'm trying one cup tomorrow and see how we go

my biggest challenge is getting to bed at reasonable time - I'm adding that too my list

dukeofpork · 01/01/2012 21:34

We just need to get the first few (miserable) days out of the way then we will feel better and that will make us want to continue!
I think smoothies are the way forward for me. Anyone know any good smoothie recipes? Not cows milk based as I am cutting down on that too!

dukeofpork - if you want a dairy feel to a smoothie, without it being dairy but with the protein, you can use silken tofu (it comes in vacum packs) from some supermarkets, I think Morrisons do it, on the tinned veg isle.

MABS · 02/01/2012 15:53

I will join you too tomorrow, alcohol will be hardest, rarely drink coffee tho. just got a vat of veg mush in slow cooker for soup.

Trills · 02/01/2012 15:53

I have a functioning liver therefore I don't need to "detox".

Not angry, just pointing out that there's no such thing as "detox" because you are not full of "toxins".

Good luck with the New Year healthy eating :)

catinboots · 02/01/2012 16:46

I'm doing the Jason Vale 7lb in 7 days juice diet.

I've bought the juicer, all the fruit and veg and am starting tomorrow!!!

Actually I think Trills has a point, there are detox articles all over the place, if you care to read them. You would be better just to eat/drink in moderation without having to go to extremes. Your liver manages all the poison 12 months of the year, that is it's function. Just don't jump into a month's worth of unfamiliar punishment diet and withdrawal, thinking you can carry on as before. There is evidence that in itself could be harmful. Far better to make slight adjustments, throughout the year, without depriving yourself.

verybusyspider · 02/01/2012 20:04

Well I was in bed before 11 last night and only one cup of coffee this morning although had a sneaky half hour nap at lunch with boys

How's everyone else doing?

dukeofpork · 03/01/2012 00:05

Had an enormous plate of steamed veg for supper! (with some tuna for protein). Lots of fresh fruit throughout the day. Did slip up and have a few biscuits at coffeetime though but not going to beat myself up about it. Bought loads of exciting fruit too Smile

Smoothies for breakfast tomorrow. And porridge with water. Then out for brunch do not sure how that will work ...

The rest of you?

OP posts:
dukeofpork · 03/01/2012 00:17

And driftwood: please tell me how eating a plate of steamed carrots and broccoli could be dangerous? They were not the lesser known killer broccoli subspecies so o reckon I might just survive the night GrinWink

OP posts:
winnybella · 03/01/2012 00:26

I think what driftwood means is that eating healthily, not drinking alcohol for a month will not be beneficial medically speaking in any way (although you may lose a pound or two). You will not 'detox' your body and if you go back to drinking and eating lots of fatty foods etc in February thinking that you got your body back in shape so it's ready for 11 months of 'abuse'-well, you're wrong.

Much better to make slight changes and keep them up throughout the year.

MABS · 03/01/2012 09:29

no booze last nt, off to gym soon, veg soup made :)

Driftwood999 · 03/01/2012 19:16

I didn't say eating veg is dangerous Confused

Trills · 03/01/2012 19:24

Eating only veg and nothing else for a week might be dangerous, but the same is true of any food group.

But I don't think any of you are silly enough to do that.

MABS · 05/01/2012 14:50

no booze since sunday :)
