Wondering if Matatka is okay, her last post was 3rd Jan?
I fell down the stairs last night...due to my dodgy thyroid problems, probably caused by multiple surgeries, I am getting temperature problems and still have the dizzy thing. Last night I thought I would go downstairs and get a drink of water and fell from the second stair all the way down on my bottom. I lay on the floor and tried to work out if I was okay, and everything seems to have held. Despite the fact that I am still full of stitches I didn't unravel!!
Good luck ladies! Xx

HI, I'm booked for an appointment with a urogynae on the 7th Feb but I think I will have my period. It's decided to be late this month, But I'm perimenopausal so it might not show up for weeks. How much of a problem is this? Should I cancel now or wait until it starts?

surewoman · 31/01/2012 17:36

Jackie - hope you're ok??? x How long are you post op, can't remember?
FiveHours - I'm off to hospital again on Friday to have my stitches taken out (at last) but will also have my period. When I suggested to the consultant that it might be a problem he said it doesn't make any difference to them either way Hmm. Rather him than me!!Blush Hope it isn't a mega period!
I would go anyway and take it from there or you will just be putting it off and nerves might get the better of you! xx

surewoman · 31/01/2012 17:46

Hi all - one quick question; has anyone else had a line of spikes from the ends of stitches all the way up the vagina 3 months post rectocele/enterocele repair? I can't find anyone who has had this happen and when did everyone else's stitches dissolve? Even the underlying ones? I really don't want to muck things up having them taken out! x

fengirl1 · 31/01/2012 18:57

Five - when I went for my bladder function test the lady couldn't have been kinder and more discreet. There was such a range of pads etc there it was like being in a chemist! I was 'on' and it was all fine...
Surewoman - perhaps you could get him to get the suction out and hoover it all up so you'd be done for the month lol! About your stitches, it really doesn't sound right to me and if I get to speak to my sister (she's a midwife currently working in theatre) I'll ask her. Never had internal stitches apart from ones for episiotomy and tear, but I do know dissolvable stitches take ages on me and I have eventually had to snip them... (but again not internal). Really don't think you should be suffering from them by now.
Good luck to all those who don't sleep well for tonight. I actually went to sleep fairly quickly last night instead of still being awake past one, but woke up at 3.30 instead - Gaaaah!!!

fengirl1 · 31/01/2012 19:58

Surewoman - have managed to speak to my sister and she said she thought by this point you could have the ends of your stitches trimmed at the very least. Hope this helps and you get to be more comfortable soon. X

FiveHoursSleep · 31/01/2012 21:03

Thanks all re periods. I was trying to work out who I should ask and then I thought of this thread. So helpful. :)

surewoman · 31/01/2012 21:13

Thanks fengirl and yes, it had crossed my mind to ask for a quick hoovering session whilst 'under' Grin x Now, there's something worth inventing - a 'DIY period extractor' - it could be called the 'menstruator' or the 'vaginator' or ....????!!!!! GrinGrin x

fengirl1 · 31/01/2012 22:19

Surewoman - you and I should invent one - we'd make a packet! Smile
Five - you're welcome. It's all so bloody degrading at times isn't it? But if you've had kids you'll recognise the scenario where the midwife asked me, when I'd torn after giving birth to the youngest, if she could get someone else in to stitch and could someone watch and I said 'help yourself, everyone else has had a look'!!!!
Good Night ladies, off in search of a good night's sleep shortly....

Nannasylv · 31/01/2012 23:59

surewoman, and all, I've got an MR Defecography tomorrow, and I hope it will reveal all. I'm not so nervous about the test, but scared that, if they don't establish the cause, I'll just be fobbed off again.

Does anyone know what "stage 1 anterior vaginal, cervical and posterior vaginal wall descent" is? Could this be pulling/pressing on my bowel? This is what the urogynaecologist said he found, when he examined me. He also said a vaginal repair will not cure the problem, and that a Colorectal surgeon is the right person for the job. He actually appears to have listened, and acknowledged that I have been passed from pillar to post, and that I think I have a fistula! Will tomorrow's MR reveal this, if I have one? I'm scared to hope.

Sorry I've been so quiet, I've been in a lot of pain for weeks, and I know I've been very tired and grumpy. The doctor has prescribed painkilling patches today, in the hope that they will help without increasing bowel problems.

I hope you are all ok, I can't wait to get to the post-op stage!

jackie62 · 01/02/2012 00:29

Sure, thanks for asking! I am okay, five weeks post op. I just seem a bit sore in the perineum area this morning with a small tear. Got away with that quite lightly I think!

Nannasylv, good luck tomorrow with your tests, I hope you get some long awaited answers and a plan of action.

Xxx to all!

Nannasylv · 01/02/2012 00:47

Thanks Jackie, I have everything crossed!!!

Oh how I envy you!

Hi,
Has anyone tried using a Kegel8 pelvic floor exerciser after TVT surgery? My surgery hasn't been completely successful, and I was wondering whether this could make a difference?

Girls I have just found a really good site on yountube 'pelvic floor exercises for women' the one with young face. 'callineticswithagnes' it is very relaxing and has some fab music too. Xx

fengirl1 · 01/02/2012 15:44

Surewoman - if I'd read your earlier post properly I would have known you're having your stitches out anyway. Definately blaming that one on being so tired!
Hoping all went well for you and Nannasylz too. X

Nannasylv · 01/02/2012 15:47

Jackie, I'm so sorry I didn't read all the posts before. How are you after your fall?

On a lighter note, Footle, do you mean the "Moon Cup", for periods, I know someone who uses one (apparently also helpful in cases where you want to increase the chances sperm getting to their destination for conception!). She made me howl with laughter, last year, when she was learning how to insert/remove it, when she said (on her first removal) the suction was so great, that she thought she would end up with a DIY hysterectomy! She's mastered it now.

Nannasylv · 01/02/2012 16:05

Can anyone tell me how you're supposed to evacuate, for a defecography, when you're lying on your back? I found it very difficult. How do they get an accurate picture, in this position?

surewoman · 01/02/2012 16:40

Nannasylv - the mind boggles Grin!!! lol!!! How did it go??

Footle - how are things with you? x

hi Footle - well done you for perservering with this; i really hope it gets better soon.
Do they know why you got so much scarring and isn't there a way they could cauterize scar tissue to get rid of some of it?

Was it a reaction to the stitches? I'm worried I'll have similar as none of mine have dissolved yet and need to be taken out this Friday (3+ months post op).

Wishing you well xxx

fengirl1 · 01/02/2012 22:56

Footle - you know what's right for you, making love sounds like the right way to go if you and OH feel like it!!! Why not and lucky you for having somebody who loves you. Scar tissue takes a long time to settle.. I have a scar on the palm of my hand that still splits occasionally 12 years on. I was told that massage helps to reduce the scarring so what you're doing must surely be right?!!! Smile
Sure - all you can do is wait and see, any improvement is better than none and your surgeon hasn't said you have tissue growing over your stitches so you probably don't and that would be the first sign of excessive scar tissue... (You wouldn't still be feeling them if they had been covered over.) You might find having them taken out is a massive relief - I hope so.
Have been to see physio today and now have another set of exercises to do (I'm beginning to wonder if they realise I actually work and have a life to live...) However will post them if anyone's interested.
Achieved a full night's sleep last night (first time in 3 weeks) but had a stinking headache this morning because of it I think...
Oh well, off to bed now as only home at 9.50 after setting off for work at 8 and another busy day tomorrow. Good Night all. X

jackie62 · 01/02/2012 23:20

Footle, I've got loads of vaginal scarring as well, back and front. The buttress that my lovely surgeon created is fairly big, about the size and consistency of a small sea urchin. Can't see any of it reducing any time soon...
Still, I've got a lot to be grateful for. I am returning to work on 20th Feb on 'recuperative' duties ( office stuff!) but it is a start. I have put on weight since September and have a problem of getting back into my uniform!
Nanna, how did it all go?
X

Nannasylv · 02/02/2012 12:36

Hi folks, it was a difficult experience, probably because of lying on my back during the process. The radiographer telling me I wasn't pushing correctly was frustrating, as I was doing what she asked, and, in the end, I just said "isn't that why I'm here, because everything isn't coming out as it should?". At one point, she said "there's still some in there", my thoughts are "no shit, Sherlock!". I told her I was pushing so hard that my bladder was feeling really compressed. I'm terrified that they still won't have found the cause (although I would have thought this was THE definitive test), but, after so long, so many "go aways", and so much continuous pain, I think this thinking is just down to my loss of faith in the NHS/"specialists". Pass the parcel, changed to pass the patient!

My lower back, buttocks, and thighs?, are sore and feel bruised inside, but that's quite usual these days. I have indentations in my buttocks and thighs, which have appeared simultaneously with the hard stuff gradually coming out, and painful lumpy areas in between. If this isn't a massive fistula, what the hell is it?

It is so good to see all your comments about getting fixed, it gives me hope that I will get there!

I hope you are all getting diagnosed/better.

Best wishes
