Can I share my UTI miracle cure?

CupOfGoodCheer · 22/12/2011 16:24

I have suffered horrible repeated UTI infections for the last few years. It is definitely "honeymoon" cystitis as I had a period when I was single when I wasn't ill at all.

With my ex I was getting infections every couple of months, and since I got together with DP they were every 2 to 3 weeks, culminating in a mega attack that was pretty much constant for 5 weeks. Unrelenting misery.

Doctors said I simply had a weakened bladder system, which couldn't fight off infection due to a low leucocyte count, meaning anything "foreign" in there at all would flare up immediately. They suggested all the usual cranberry, weeing after sex etc etc. Nothing worked. They also stopped prescribing me antibiotics as they said that each time I was further weakening my system, hence the mega 5 week infection.

After doing some internet research I am now taking pro-biotics daily, and in the 2 months I've been taking them I have no UTI's at all. Nada, zilch, zero!

So, I am sharing my news in the hope that it helps someone who also suffers with these horrible, painful, unremitting and bad for the sex life infections.

In case anyone needs the details of the specific pro-biotics, the ones I'm taking are Lactobacillus rhamnosus, GR-1 and Lactobacillus reuteri, RC-14.

I don't work for any medical company I swear!! Grin

Grin

Great news!

Thankyou, that's really helpful. I suffer with bad IBS.

Do you take it in tablet form?

Sparklingbaubles · 23/12/2011 17:57

I think Multibionta tablets got rid of my IBS greensmurf

CupOfGoodCheer · 23/12/2011 20:52

I'm glad you have found it helpful, greensmurf.

I take it in tablet form, one per day. I found a supplier over the internet and get it sent. I just googled the pro-biotic strains. These specific tablets are for women's vaginal health specifically and are stronger than the generic stuff you get in the chemist (which also don't have these specific proven strains)

I can pm you the brand name if you like (or post it, can we do that/is it advertising?)

Cupofgoodcheer, am so happy you have found something that works for you as can totally empathise with the horror of suffering recurring uti's and cystitis.

I too have suffered 'honeymoon cystitis' since I got married - 20 years ago!! Unrelenting misery absolutely describes it. Has been the bane of my life and have had years and years of being on courses of ab's. I too found a solution.

I recently got a terrible bout when in amsterdam and bought a box of capsules whilst over there. They are herbal based. I haven't had an attack now for 6wks since having them, and that is unheard of for me. They are available online. I honestly feel like crying from sheer relief at discovering them.

Don't want to advertise them on here but if anyone is interested can pm you the details.

CupOfGoodCheer · 23/12/2011 21:32

Done, Brevity - best of luck x

Could you pm me as well please, thanks v much

Brevity · 23/12/2011 21:39

Thankyou for the info. There really is only so much cranberry and trimethoprim one person can have in a lifetime!

CupOfGoodCheer · 23/12/2011 21:41

of course, Spud. It's done Smile

CupOfGoodCheer · 23/12/2011 21:43

I think trimethoprim actually makes it worse, Brevity - it just wrecks your "good" bacteria levels and then the next time you get an infection you've got even less chance of fighting it off quickly.....

As for cranberry....

JingleBelleDameSansMerci · 23/12/2011 21:46

Sorry but would you mind PM-ing me the brand name too please?

Brevity · 23/12/2011 21:48

That's interesting about the antib's. Have come to rely on them to try and nip it in the bud, but in the long run I think you do run the risk of becoming resistant.
Off to order the probiotics now. Did they work quickly?

mominamillion · 23/12/2011 21:50

Absolutely agree re trimethoprim. It's a quick fix only.

CupOfGoodCheer · 23/12/2011 21:53

Done, JingleBelle x

I would say they worked pretty quickly. I had what I call "twinges" for the first couple of weeks, but not a full blown infection. After that, nothing BUT I do still have to keep hydrated, and if I drink too much wine (hardly ever then, obviously Blush) I feel a bit twingy the next morning.

I have not felt an infection coming on at all after sex though, since I started taking them. Any slight pain seems to result purely from dehydration now.

However, it never develops into an infection.

Thank you.

Rosemallow · 23/12/2011 21:57

So happy for you OP. I suffered from repeated UTIs from the age of 16 (first time ever was on a camping trip. Mine was not always honeymooners as I wasn't even sexually active then)
I took trimethoprim so often that I am now allergic to it and had an anaphlaptic reaction to it.
All the doctors could tell me was it wasn't an infection, it was 'probably physiological'.
My 'cure' (fingers crossed) was a bit more extreme: having babies! Don't know what they've done to me down there but since being pregnant with DD (nearly 4 years ago) I have only had one infection.
Bearing in mind I was having about 30 odd infections a year I am relieved!
So happy you've found something that works for you, I bet your quality of life has improved immensely.
Would you mind pming me (just in case it ever gets worse again!)
Best of luck.

CupOfGoodCheer · 23/12/2011 22:01

of course not Rosemallow, have pm'd you.

I have found doctors in 3 countries (I move a lot) uniformly useless tbh. No idea at all.

Glad to hear having babies may help, we're ttc at the moment!

It is such a quality of life issue too, definitely. I would be totally depressed when I could feel yet another infection starting, which eventually was worse than the infection pain itself. DP also found it so hard, as he felt he was hurting me when we were dtd, and was somehow causing me to be ill. That would obviously have an effect on our sex life too.
