Can I share my UTI miracle cure?

I have suffered horrible repeated UTI infections for the last few years. It is definitely "honeymoon" cystitis as I had a period when I was single when I wasn't ill at all.

With my ex I was getting infections every couple of months, and since I got together with DP they were every 2 to 3 weeks, culminating in a mega attack that was pretty much constant for 5 weeks. Unrelenting misery.

Doctors said I simply had a weakened bladder system, which couldn't fight off infection due to a low leucocyte count, meaning anything "foreign" in there at all would flare up immediately. They suggested all the usual cranberry, weeing after sex etc etc. Nothing worked. They also stopped prescribing me antibiotics as they said that each time I was further weakening my system, hence the mega 5 week infection.

After doing some internet research I am now taking pro-biotics daily, and in the 2 months I've been taking them I have no UTI's at all. Nada, zilch, zero!

So, I am sharing my news in the hope that it helps someone who also suffers with these horrible, painful, unremitting and bad for the sex life infections.

In case anyone needs the details of the specific pro-biotics, the ones I'm taking are Lactobacillus rhamnosus, GR-1 and Lactobacillus reuteri, RC-14.

I don't work for any medical company I swear!! Grin

Cup I could have written that post!

The worst bit for me was knowing that every romantic trip away we had would almost certainly end in a horrendous flare up (as happened in Amsterdam). It has ruined so many holidays for us.

And also it was usually a weekend when I would have a bout. I was a frequent visitor to out of hours doctors.

can you just post the details here - we make recommendations on MN all the time and I don't thin this is any different. Plus, someone searching in the future will have less chance of getting a PM.
Thanks

hellymelly I have pm'd you. Hope your mum sees a difference x

This is the link to the product. It is produced by a company called Jarrow Formulas, and the tablets themselves are called Fem Dophilus.

I bought them from www.allstarnutrition.co.uk. They're quite expensive, but worth it, imo...

I take one per day, and may take an extra one if I feel a "twinge".

Wow, I was really excited but it would cost £32 a month. Sad

CupOfGoodCheer · 23/12/2011 22:28

It's not cheap, no, but I would pay twice the price for something that worked.

Mmmmm, well I currently pay £7.90 a month for a repeat prescription of trimethropin. I've been taking it daily for eight months which I know isn't great but it works.

Rosemallow · 23/12/2011 22:55

Thanks cupofgoodcheer.

I used to feel like a bit of a freak and that I'd never be able to enjoy sex properly because of the UTIs but that has all changed dramatically now.
Good luck with ttc (enjoy it! Wink ) and here's hoping you stay healthy!

SardineQueen · 24/12/2011 13:09

mominamillion could you post your discovery too? If it's not the same thing? Thanks Smile

LuSmithTheMyth · 24/12/2011 19:09

Oh my, could you PM me the details of these probiotics? I suffer from frequent urination and I've been told probiotics are amazing at helping with these symptoms and general health! I also have bad IBS and have no clue where to start with them..

LuSmithTheMyth · 24/12/2011 19:10

Oh I just realised the link to the probiotics were posted, sorry!

Anyone find any probiotics that help with IBS symptoms?

I'm glad you have found it helpful, greensmurf.

I take it in tablet form, one per day. I found a supplier over the internet and get it sent. I just googled the pro-biotic strains. These specific tablets are for women's vaginal health specifically and are stronger than the generic stuff you get in the chemist (which also don't have these specific proven strains)

I can pm you the brand name if you like (or post it, can we do that/is it advertising?)

Hi, which brand do you take please?
