Could this be Ulcerative Colitis?

Sorry this is gross, but i am worried and looked online (prob not the best of ideas) and found that most of my symptoms seem to fit UC: different coloured stools which frequently changes but is mostly very loose.
Blood in stools (a lot), if i pass wind, i can pass pure blood but usually mess myself (very unpleasant), stomach churns constantly.
Being sent (eventually) for a colonoscopy to have a look see. Does anyone know what else this could be please? x

Yay - just rang my poo nurse to say I'm still in remission and does she still need to see me next week, and she says she'll send blood forms out in the post and rebook me for 6-8 months! :)

How's everyone else?

funnyperson · 17/07/2012 22:00

Excellent news!
I have been signed off sick.
How is Mrspinot?
Any news from chocol8?

MrsPinotGrigio · 18/07/2012 17:44

spider thats fantastic news Grin

funny not such good news - sorry you are sick Sad. How long have you been signed off for? Maybe you do need to think about the 6MP now - I'm still feeling fine although my blood count is still low.

Haven't heard anything from chocol8 - I pm'd her last week but haven't had a reply. Hope shes ok.

Take care everyone Thanks

MrsPinotGrigio · 07/08/2012 17:18

Hi all - took me ages to find this thread - it has slipped away to page 7!!!!

I am need of a little bit of hand holding if anyone is available. Had a letter from my consultant 2 weeks ago to say the surgeon had taken a look at my films & CT & is concerned there is still a lot of abnormal bowel so he wants to see me. I was very Shock & Sad cos the consultant had told me I don't need surgery at the moment. Anyway my appointment is on Monday morning - thank god DP is off work & can come with me cos I don't think I can face it on my own. I'm a bit confused though cos he mentioned my CT scan & the last one I had was while I was in hospital so I'm hoping they've looked at the wrong thing & the small bowel barium shows a better picture. Think I'll ask for another CT first though before I'm willing to discuss surgery in any detail. Have also talked it over with DP & while the surgeon is very nice & all that I might ask for a 2nd opinion - I'm very lucky as I'm covered with BUPA through DP's work.

Hope everyone is doing ok. funny how are you now? Hope you're feeling better.

Will update on Monday when I've got more info.

funnyperson · 07/08/2012 22:53

Hello mrspinot this is a bit of a worry - though I think your consultant should really have discussed this with you and not sent you a letter out of the blue.i suppose they must have looked at your x rays and scans and stuff at a meeting like they do and thats why theyve changed their mind.
I'm with you on the second opinion.
Depends in a way what surgery the surgeons want to do.
I'm ok - steroided to the hilt- actually tired most of the time. There is no cure for uc , not really.
Anyway I dont think I can be much use but holding hands anyway!

spiderlight · 08/08/2012 20:49

Oh blimey - hope you don't need surgery. Definitely ask for another CT before you commit. My anti-surgery plan, if it ever comes to it, is to insist on trying faecal transplant first, because so many people seem to have done well after it. I'll be thinking of you on Monday - let us know how it goes.

Sorry you're feeling rough, funnyperson. Steroids ledt me feeling very washed out and wobbly.

I wish our Missing Persons would check in.

(Still in remission. quietly starting to allow myself to wonder whether it has all gone away....I know it doesn't, though)

funnyperson · 08/08/2012 22:19

Yes I wish they would too. What should we do?

funnyperson · 08/08/2012 22:21

Should we tell mumsnet admin then they can find if missing people have namechanged or disappeared and if disappeared then what?

MrsPinotGrigio · 13/08/2012 20:52

Ladies - update as promised & its good news (I think). The surgeon was really nice - I've met him before while I was in hospital but I was in such a state I didn't remember him. He showed me & DP the small bowel barium films & I've got a stricture (hardened bit of bowel). This makes the bit above swell too much when anything passes through so I get tightenings & gurgling noises. He said I will need surgery eventually but as I'm so well & not having symptoms he will see me again in 12 months to reassess. My weight is still going up - I've now put on more than I lost (this is good as I was slightly underweight before). He also said any surgery will be keyhole & theres a very, very small chance I will need a temporary bag - that was my biggest fear I must admit.

My gastro consultant popped in to see him while I was having my appointment so he stayed to hear what was said & because of my weight & the fact that I'm so well he's cancelling my appointment for next week & will see my in 3 months.

Had a fab weekend away as well with DP,DS, my sister & her kids so I'm now very happy Grin.

Also wondering what has happened to our other ladies - I'm not on alot but haven't noticed either of them on other threads. Hope they are all ok.

spiderlight · 20/08/2012 16:12

That's great news, MrsPinot! Such a relief for you, I bet! :o

It might be worth dropping a line to HQ in case they've namechanged. Hoping they're not both having to recover from major surgery :(

funnyperson · 21/08/2012 15:43

mrspinotI think its really good you had both the consultants together and such a clear explanation.

feeling feeble but how does one drop a line to hq?

spiderlight · 21/08/2012 22:59

No idea! Maybe PM one of them or look in Site Stuff or see what the 'Report' button does?

Hi OldBag! Sorry you're still not right. It sounds as if you need another appointment with your consultant or specialist nurse to talk through other options. How long ago did you start the Aza? Apparently it takes about three months to kick in properly but you should be better than this by now, I'd have thought. What are your inflammatory markers like?

Myhiar....urgh. I now have two completely different lots of hair at the same time - loads of new growth about four inches long poking through my old hair, and it's wavy, whereas the rest of my hair is dead straight! So that looks very stylish, as I'm sure you can imagine. :( There are Tim Minchin days and mullet days, but my lovely MIl saw me last week for the first time since March and said 'God, your hair looks loads better!' so I'm hoping it's slowly sorting itself out. I nearly bought a Babyliss Big Hair last night but I don't know whether that would make things better or worse and I really don't do 'girly' so I'd probably make a mess of it!

Oldbag sorry you're still having problems. Do you have an IBD nurse you can speak to? Mine is fab & she will speak to the consultant on my behalf - when my hair was really bad she got me an appointment with him within a couple of days. Speaking of hair - mine is so much better now I've changed from Aza to Mercaptopurine. I'm still using the Wella serum but only every other day now. Went to the hairdressers the other week & she commented on how much thicker my hair is getting so hopefully it will carry on getting better.

Quick!! Over here! Product testing for haircare range for thinning hair!

OldBag, I guess I'm just very, very lucky. The steroids just sorted it - took a while to kick in when I was in hospital but once the diarrhoea etc. stopped, it all just stayed stopped. No magic formula I can give you, sorry - I only wish I could. I'm on a maintenance dose of 2g pentasa every morning but that's it. Still have to be slightly careful of what I eat (feeling a bit suspect this evening after having chip-shop chips last night and then a really stressful day at the hospital with my dad today) but if I ever do get a slight grumble it's always for a reason, usually self-inflicted, and a day or two of bland food and double Pentasa has always sent it packing.

spiderlight · 30/08/2012 22:41

Had a bit of a scare yesterday. My slightly suspect post-chippy tummy turned into a really really horrible painful 36 hours of mega-constipation. I went onto a few colitis boards, hoping to find posts that said 'Oh, it's fine - just take some prune juice', but all I kept finding were terrifying warnings about toxic megacolon. I got to the point where I was curled up sobbing in agony on the kitchen floor, telling DH that he was not to consent to a colostomy unless they could do an internal join-up, but then he found some Milk of Magnesia in the cupboard and within about an hour it had done the trick and I was fine again Blush

OldBag this is the serum I'm using. It's for hair loss really but does help with thininng hair & was recommended by a pharmacist friend of my sister. Its quite expensive although I did find some on Ebay for £15.00 for 2 bottles.

spider that sounds awful - I get really scared with any pain as well though. Thankfully I haven't been constipated for a good while now but I do drink loads of water & other fluid to try to keep everything moving (think running to the loo for a wee every hour!!!)

The steroids did really help me but I think its been changing to the 6MP thats made a big difference - I feel so much better than I did on the Aza.

Been off work this week & been busy getting DS ready to go back to school - normal service is resumed on Tuesday (thank god) Grin

l4k · 04/10/2012 08:34

I know I'm reviving an old thread but I thought you may be able to help.
I be posted before about intermittent diarrhoea and urgency with only occasional bleeding. I've always had pain but this time I've had really bad painfully tender abdomen for nearly a week. It's getting a bit better but it even hurts to fart!!! Also , I feel ill, my arms and legs are aching and I'm dog tired. I slept for 3 hours yesterday while the kids were at school and still felt tired.
Saw a gastroentlogist on tues and he wants to rule out coeliac with an endoscopy and boipsys , and also crohns with a spiecal MRI ( M R Enterography )
Any ideas ? I need to be better.

spiderlight · 08/10/2012 11:13

Sounds nasty! It might well be colitis or Crohn's, so I'd be pushing for a colonoscopy if the MRI doesn't shed any light on things. Some people get pain with Colitis but others don't - I never have, thankfully. Keep us posted on how you get on.

l4k · 08/10/2012 17:15

Thanks spider, Im so relieved I've had the MRI thingy and got through it. I'm now sitting in the bathroom, I've given up trying to leave , because you have to drink a strange solution before the scan and it has a "mild laxative effect". That's a joke on their part. Hope to get the results next week when I have the diagnostic gastroscopy.
I think colitis is pretty much ruled out since the flexi- sigmoidoscopy came back clear, but crohns is a possibility. Oh I really don't know.
Has anyone else been diagnosed with either of these tests?
