Can I do more?

You can have up to 10 puffs of blue VIA A SPACER and if no improvement then you need to go to A&E.

Purple will have limited effect and is only for routine dosing ie 2 puffs twice a day. Not to be used as required.

Stress can be a trigger. A panic attack can cause hyperventilation, which can feel similar to an asthma attack but is self-limiting especially if you can rebreathe into a paper bag, and calm down. (easier said than done I know)

BonzoDooDah · 28/09/2011 22:22

If it was a small glass and that's all I'd say you are ok to drive - that was 5 hours ago.

Try the bag whilst phoning NHS direct 0845 4647
or your Doctor's surgery which will put you through to the out of hours service.

giraffesCantChaChaCha · 28/09/2011 22:22

you can take ten multi dosing ideally with spacer.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 28/09/2011 22:22

You can take 10 puffs of the Ventolin, but if things are getting this bad you do need to go and talk to the professionals really...

(mosschops - DS (11mo) was in paeds with viral wheeze last week - the nurses refused to believe the registrar had prescribed only 8 puffs of Ventolin (because of tachycardia) and got another doctor to change it to 10 puffs)

One glass of wine won't put you over the limit, especially not 5 hours ago. Assuming you're not drinking wine out of a pint glass of course!

CheeseandGherkins · 28/09/2011 22:23

I wouldn't drive yourself if you're feeling bad! Not a good idea at all

if you are having an asthma attack requiring hospital treatment it wouldnt be advisable to drive

Sidge · 28/09/2011 22:25

Don't bother with NHS Direct. They'll just tell you to go to A&E.

As will OOH to be honest.

And don't drive yourself, especially if you've had 10 puffs of salbutamol.

what symptoms are you having just now?

mummynoseynora · 28/09/2011 22:28

I agree with above - hospital next.... don't drive, you will panic more and make it worse.
If DH can't take you because of the kids, call a taxi

and take your blue inhaler with you in case you need it en route

mummynoseynora · 28/09/2011 22:30

ok - ignore me about taxi! Just seen kerrymumbles post, which is rather sensible. Ambulance would make sense

TheOriginalFAB · 28/09/2011 22:31

breathing laboured

feel a bit fuzzy

OP posts:
BonzoDooDah · 28/09/2011 22:32

Well tell them that and they'll get ambulance. Don't piss about.

Asthma is serious. Not breathing is serious.

Don't panic just be sensible.

Good. Really hope you're feeling a whole lot better v soon. Xx

oldenoughtowearpurple · 28/09/2011 22:45

Difficulty in breathing = category a ambulance response.

PenguinArmy · 28/09/2011 22:46

bloody hell, I often sit there chugging away with a puff every minute for 20-30mins, however I do know it sorts itself out ...eventually

hope your feeling calmer and better soon
