Can stress give you pain?

I am very stressed at the moment and now have a stitch like pain in my side. It hurts all down my back as well and I am so tired I could cry. I will get a break tomorrow when I have to go to hospital.

Yes, I believe that stress can give you pain. I would however still get it checked out if your worried.

TheOriginalFAB · 23/08/2011 19:40

Thanks. It got worse but has eased off now so I think I am okay.

And now my breathing isn't great. These kids of mine will be the death of me.

Yes, definately. We sold our house when DD was a week old, and I had stomach pain untill we moved 5 months later. I started to think I has something really wrong, but I was just tense.

I also know someone who ended up hostpitalised and on morphine because of groin pain...eventually it turned out to be stress.

My friend was off work for months as she was stressed at work and it made her muscles ache and she was having palpitations so yes it can hurt

TheOriginalFAB · 23/08/2011 20:25

I have just had to use my inhaler as I am so stressed my breathing is not natural. I really need a break Sad.

FAB..you do need a break.

Is there anyway you it could happen?

TheOriginalFAB · 23/08/2011 20:31

I will get a little one tomorrow while I go to hospital and dh has the kids.

Absolutely - particularly stomach pain. I get quite strong cramps in my tummy if I am really upset/anxious/stressed.

It does sound like you need a real break - a couple of days to just lounge around without any guilt or worry about the kids. Is that feasible?

TheOriginalFAB · 24/08/2011 08:08

I was so stressed last night that I had a bad asthma attack and really struggled to breathe normally and my inhaler didn't help. I am full of cold this morning with a sore throat and cotton wool head.

There is no chance this week of a break.

FAB, take some B vits as stress makes u deficient and this leads to more stress

LoveBeingAtHomeOnMyOwn · 24/08/2011 09:39

Yes it can, it's like a pressure cooker it has to cone out somewhere. And defo makes you more likely to catch stuff that's going round.

Can you do some relaxing stuff, quiet bath, reading, running whatever?

FAB, sorry that you're so stressed and yes, as you have been told and realised, stress can give you pain. Apart from your breathing (presumably asthma, which can worsen with stress), you can get acid reflux, irritable bowel symptoms, gallbladder symptoms and hyperventilation (certainly won't help your breathing!)
Stress can also cause muscle tension, which may have contributed to the back pain (if it wasn't the breathing, gallbladder or indigestion).

You need to find a way to let the stress go. A punchbag in the garage may help; or if you can afford it, a massage or something just for you so you can chill out for an hour. If you haven't access to a punchbag, bashing seven bells out of a pillow can be very therapeutic as well. Helps to use up the adrenaline that you are overproducing.

Can you offload your DC for a while onto anyone?
