Yes, ring your gp, I would not be happy about being kept in the dark.

Epiffany · 07/12/2005 11:19

Have already rung GP, she says she is not sure why they have changed on review, she is going to get back to me once she has chased it up.
She also said she never referred me to fast track breast clinic, which is what I am now on.

dp has said he'll cancel trip away next week for work and be with me.
Next Tuesday Essbee

Have spoken to GP
She said the reason he has put me on fast track is that the area highlighted is considered a high risk quadrant?
Bottom outside/left side.
And because they have seen a sharp rise in malignancy in under 40 yr old women recently.
And also he said that as my lump did not change throughtout my cycle, he would have expected it to reduce if it was fybrocystic not grow
I'm confused
I'm not one to panic, but I'm very worried.

((Epiffany)) hang in there - the good bit is, you will get peace of mind much faster this way. I think its about time our GPs referred faster for breast lumps. All the reasons you were given were generalizations and do NOT mean its anything bad - 80% of breast lumps are benign. And, I had/have fibrocystic lumps that do NOT change with my cycle - and theyv'e been biopsied, so I'm sure about the diagnosis. Its a nervewracking thing to go through, hugs and luck to you.

beansontoast · 07/12/2005 16:32

more hugs and calmness from me,glad elibean got here before me with top reassurance...and i loved your comment on 'what does parenting mean to you 'thread

tamum · 07/12/2005 16:38

This sounds like a target-meeting exercise to be honest. I think it's a bit misleading of them to have called it a high risk quadrant- it's true that more fibrocystic lumps are in the lower quadrants, but they are clearly looking for "trigger" words that move people to fast track. It's still the same lump that your GP saw and evaluated, they haven't seen it yet. I know it's bound to sound empty but try not to worry if you possibly can. Nothing has really changed.

hope you're OK Epiffany

thanks for posting on my thread last night.

the waiting sucks, doesn't it?

MARINAtivityPlay · 09/12/2005 10:21

Wishing you lots of luck Epiffany...Tamum's perspective on this sounds well worthy of consideration...could you talk turkey with your GP and see if you can get her to concede that this could be their rationale.
Please keep us posted.

falalaala · 09/12/2005 14:00

hey Epiffany
i'm sorry to hear your news. i have breast cancer and having chemo at the moment. i'm under 40 and my experience was the opposite of yours - i was referred in a not quite urgent way (wait of 11 weeks) and i should have been referred urgently. top tip for next week - take paracetamol so that if they do do a biopsy while you are there, you can take one straight afterwards.
there's nothing that anyone can say to make this all go away, but it is good news that they are getting you in next week. when i asked about why i wasn't seen as urgently as my gp had requested, i was told that the breast team at the hospital had 'downgraded' my case - in your case, they've prioritised you, which is good because if it does end up being bad news, they've got it much earlier than they would have done.
if it is the worst news (and i'm really hoping that it isn't), keep hold of the fact that the earlier it is caught, a better prognosis is usually the outcome.
keep posting. lots of support here. and if you want to www.breastcancercare.org.uk is a great source of info.

MARINAtivityPlay · 09/12/2005 15:53

laala, I was wondering how you were doing. How are you getting on with the chemo? How are things in general?

falalaala · 09/12/2005 15:56

doing OK. 2nd chemo just done (yesterday) so feeling a bit rubbish today. haven't got dressed. fabulous excuse to watch rubbish TV, the DVDs I like and post on mumsnet. all without feeling that i should be doing something else with this time.....guilt-free! my sister is on her way to tend me all weekend (and look after dd and dh, of course!)
end of hijack!

dingdongmeggymooonhigh · 09/12/2005 15:58

Epiffany no experience here either
I am glad you've had a diagnosis and I am crossing everything for you.
Good luck

FauveGoldRings · 09/12/2005 16:15

I tend to agree with tamum re the target-meeting and the trigger words.

If we have a competition for the best Xmas name, I have to say I'm voting for yours - I love it

XmasAngelCrimboKat · 09/12/2005 16:32

Epiffany- best of luck hun. Imho, it's best that they are fast tracking you. At least you know, as Laalaa said, if it is something untoward, it will be caught early and if it's all ok, then they are doing a fantastic job.
I've had similar experiences. Had a mass of "thickened tissue" and was referred to a breast clinic in July. Even though the scan was all clear, the registrar decided to do a wide core biopsy to "110% rule out anything" (I have a number of family members who've had cancer and had cancerous cells removed from my cervix before). The results were meant to take two weeks but less than 48 hrs later the results came back all clear. Unfortunately, a hard, marble sized lump has appeared in the middle of the tissue and I've now got to wait until the 19th Jan to see the registrar again. Must admit, this time I'm worried as the whole area does'nt feel right and on discovering it, my stomach felt like it had dropped. But at least if it is bad news, again it's been caught early.
Please let us know how you get on. Thinking of you.
x

XmasAngelCrimboKat · 09/12/2005 16:33

P.s Well done Laalaa, hope you're feeling as well as can be expected. You're a very brave gal. x
