As anyone got lung scaring or shadows that have turned out not to be serious?

Is it an initial consultation you are going for tomorrow? If so write down or go through in your symptoms in your head.

I must admit, I was convinced I had lung cancer. There was no way my husband could even mention otherwise without me going ballistic about him not facing facts. I was very emotional. I had bookmarked loads of pages on the web re this. Also explored treatments and outcomes in different countries. They needed to exclude anything behind the shadow or 'consolidation' on my lung. There was nothing sinister behind it.

Do whatever you can to relax yourself as best you can tonight. You have set the ball rolling on this. Think of what questions you want to ask. Do not take it as sinister if the consultant will not ease your mind prior to investigations. Mine just said it was not straightforward on my first meeting. Took that as as a definite sign I was in for bad news. I was totally off the mark.

If you need to meditate or watch a movie in bed to distract yourself, do it.
I hope tomorrow goes towards a speedy resolution for you.

Hi all just to update, had my appointment today, had some answers and questions.
Good news is lung function was ok but peak flow low.
He wants to see CT results before he decides if I need broncosopy (sp)

He said he didn't think it was anything too sinister, he wanted me to have my blood taken for allergy testing and to have a turbo? inhalour for a month to see if any change.
He did say it maybe I have Asthma but don't know it, I really don't think I have had asthma as a child and don't feel anything like that.
I don't go back for a month now, as allergy blood tests can take that long.
So I feel 50% better than I did this morning.

My dad was called back after x-ray showed 'shadows'. They turned out to be his (old man) nipples!

Sorry to be frivolous, glad to hear today's encouraging news.

LargeGlassofRed · 31/05/2011 19:48

thanks smartypants I am really going to try and forget about it now, my obsessive googling is getting out of hand!

Well that seems positive! Hope you're feeling less worried. There is nothing to the ct. I had a contrast which gave a slightly warm feeling -actually feels warm between your legs and think you're going to pee. You don't though! You are told when to fill your lungs and then expire. They give you all instructions needed. It doesn't take very long either.

Hopefully that will ease your mind completely. Rest well tonight.

LargeGlassofRed · 31/05/2011 20:03

Thanks John, enjoying several large glasses of red then will crash :)

Sounds like good news Large glass. CT scan is qiute easy. They tell you what to do, so whilst you are busy listening or breathing as instructed - it seems to go very quickly. Hope your CT is clear!!

LargeGlassofRed · 02/06/2011 20:27

Thanks Magso, will update when I have any more results :-)

Thought I'd had a quick update, saw the consultant again today and he thinks its sarcoidosis. So just have to carry on with inhaler and have lung function, ct in 3 months. He does n't want to biopsy yet but will if anything changes.

OP posts:
Mummyisamonster · 12/07/2011 13:48

I've just been diagnosed with sarcoidosis too and have just found this thread. After months of worrying that I had cancer it's a relief to be starting the steroids tomorrow.

How are you feeling now LargeglassofRed?

LargeGlassofRed · 14/07/2011 18:28

Hi mummy, still feel rundown and breathless, but main thing I've had in the last 6 weeks or so is awful bloating and right hand pain in abdomen. Not sure if it's related though.
How are you feeling mummy?
