dd1 had hers at 18 months, after a long discussion with my then HV, who was very very nice and let me decide things for me and dd

but ive moved area now and have a new HV who i dont like - she sent a letter last week telling me to call the surgery and make an appt for dd2's MMR this week (dd2 is 12 months)

i obviously didnt do it as i want dd2 to have her MMR at 18 months also

she went nuts and told me i was putting dd2 at risk of measles etc etc etc

told me the 'protocol' is 12-13 months

Just checked in my red book and dd was called for hers at 16 months old. The book states that it can be given between 12 and 18 months.

OldieMum · 02/11/2005 10:57

We benefited very much from advice given on MN, particularly concerning the possible impact on a child of 13 months, with a still developing immune system, of a cocktail of vaccines. We decided to leave it until DD was 19 months old. Our GP's practice did not put the heavies on us, so I'm not sure what advice to give you - perhaps think about why you want to delay it and then explain this to the HV. She can't force you to do it at 12-13 months, after all.

oh yes the red book

mine must say the same then

think ill just shove that under her beaky nose

ds was week after he turned one.

flamesparrow · 02/11/2005 10:58

15 months... I was told that she needed it from about 12 months, but HV said that that is to allow for us paranoid mums who put it off for a few months. She said the preferred age is actually 15 months, so I felt diddled

harpsichordcarrier · 02/11/2005 10:59

13 months for dd
if you want to delay then of course you can do that
is she worried about measles in particular btw? is measles going around?
(there's been a lot of mumps round here for example; quite a few friends children had it)

PiccadillyCircus · 02/11/2005 11:01

DS had his at 15 months. I wouldn't have been happy with him having it before then.

LIZS · 02/11/2005 11:01

ds was about 17 months, booster at 4 1/2
dd was just before 1, booster 18 months

nailpolish · 02/11/2005 11:01

i think she must have a particular fear of measles

i wish i could go back to my old HV

so what do you think she will do when i appear at the door with an 18 month old dd2? she will have to just go along with what i want wont she?

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 02/11/2005 11:01

18 months.

nailpolish · 02/11/2005 11:02

er..booster?

OP posts:
harpsichordcarrier · 02/11/2005 11:03

yes perhaps she has had a bad experience with a measles case/complications at some point and is a bit paranoid. there's normally a reason for that kind of extreme reastion (is she older?).
you can just be serenely indifferent and say you want to wait.
you can't be the only person

nailpolish · 02/11/2005 11:04

no shes very young

i think she is maybe panicking about not doing everything by the college book, in which case i do feel for her a bit

think ill go and phone her

it cant be an age appropriate dose as its all prepackaged, surely?

is the booster a bigger dose?

hadnt really thought of that..

I waited ages - too scared at first!!

DS1 was 3.5 for 1st one, did not take him for booster.

DD1 was 2.

Now we are in France, so twins can have singles - yippee!! But not for a while yet, hopefully.

SoupDragon · 02/11/2005 11:25

DS1 at 12 months (has not had his preschool booster yet though and he's 6.5!)
DS2 I delayed until about 18 months because he always seemed to have a cold or something and I wanted him to be older and with a stronger immune system. TBH, I only did it then because he was due to start nursery in 3 months. He also hasn't had his pre school MMR booster... or any of them now I think of it... He will have it but I'll split it from the rest like I did with DS1 (who will have the booster when I get round to it!)

They can't force you to give it to them and neither my GP or practice nurse have ever tried to force me to have them done.
