Lump in breast GP in an hour, what to expect?

have read the other thread but did not want to hijack due to sensitive nature of that thread (hugs lalaa)
I foudn a lump, hard marble in left lower breast.
DP has gone to motorycle show in Birmingham proclaiming, don't worry it will be fine" I'm sure statistics say that but I'm terrified.
What will the GP do/refer fob me off, what do I ask for?

had my biopsy thingy 2 weeks ago and have scan this thursday, anyone know how long it takes for biopsy results to come bcak?

piffle · 23/11/2005 16:48

Just to update, had follow up today.
Doc says there is a lumpy area, she suspects benignn fybrocystic something or other, but has referred me for a mammogran asap as the other breast is very different on palpation apparently.
So she is very sure it is nothing sinister which is a relief.
Thx to all with kind words and good luck to anyone else in similar predicament

jambuttie · 24/11/2005 19:26

Well had the scan today and they say all look ok[huge relief]

They say to wait for biopsy but they did say it looks more like natural tissues(fat)

God I am so relieved I tell you.

Good luck ladies with your appt's too

jane313 · 24/11/2005 19:41

Hi can I join you? Although having read the thread most of you have had the all clear

I have an appointment at the breast clinic next week.

I had another lump (like a hard pea) 18 months ago and it was something called fat necrosis. Some calcified fat I think but nothing to do with breastfeeding. This lump is much more like hard breast tissue. Am ttc at the moment so hope af comes before so I can have a mammogram if needed.

madmarchhare · 24/11/2005 21:54

Phew JB, another good news update .

Hi J313, I think we can see here that a lot of the time these things dont always have to mean the worst. I hope your appointment at the clinic goes OK.

jambuttie · 25/11/2005 07:26

hope all goes well jane.

hanks all for your support must say I am soooooo bloody relieved I did manage a half decent sleep last night all be it I was in beside one of the twins but nevertheless

bluebear · 26/11/2005 10:26

Hi, can I join too please - saw GP yesterday and am being referred to the breast clinic. What should I expect to happen there?
Mine's not a lump as such but an area that just doesn't feel right - I was hoping the GP would tell me not to be silly but to my surprise/horror he could feel the area without me telling him where it was. It's a bit achey which I think is a good sign.

Elibean · 26/11/2005 13:17

Bluebear, I self-referred to a breast clinic/surgeon for an 'area' as opposed to a lump - I had a mammo and ultrasound (if you are pre-menopausal, your breast tissue is thicker so u/s is often used instead/as well as mammos). I also saw the surgeon, who examined me. He was able to reassure me on the spot that it was fibrocystic changes, but he did book me in for a core biopsy just to be 100% sure and put my mind at rest. I have lots of rubbery, fibrous feeling areas that ache/tingle at times and they are benign - hope the same for you!

xxC

bluebear · 26/11/2005 14:12

Thanks Elibean.

jambuttie · 26/11/2005 15:31

Good luck ladies

The clinic at our hospital were very very nice indeed, they made me feel so comfortable and thnkfully I got a good outcome

jane313 · 26/11/2005 17:05

bluebear if you are going to ealing, expect to wait for ages. I had a mammogram an ultrasound and a consultation, all in different places, all involved queuing. Not much fun with a toddler in tow!

madmarchhare · 26/11/2005 22:48

bluebear, thats more along the lines of what Ive got (I think) (I hope) (I dont know).

bluebear · 26/11/2005 23:21

Thanks - especially Jane - Thought we might be going to the same place. I'll be prepared for lots of waiting then

jane313 · 29/11/2005 16:05

bluebear I went today and the system had changed. Last time I saw a consultant, had an ultrasound and a mammogram. This time I waited 50 mins to see a consultant, he couldn't really find anything just a sort of lumpy area (I can only find the lump sometimes but my gp found it) and he said I had to have an ultrasound. But I just get sent another appointment for the ultrasound. Then when I have that I make another appointment to see a consultant. Which makes the whole thing really drag on. With me worrying all the time.

bluebear · 29/11/2005 21:11

Oh Jane - I'm so sorry that you haven't had a definite answer today - Thanks for warning me about the new system.

I was hoping that it would be a one-stop shop so I wouldn't have to tell work about it, but if I'm going to need at least 3 times off work I guess I'll have to explain why.

Madmarchhare - have you seen anyone yet?

merrymarchhare · 01/12/2005 21:21

OK, saw GP today, she said she wasnt too concerned, but 'to be on the safe side', Ive been refered. She said she hasnt asked for an immediate appointment and that I should expect a letter in next two/three weeks.

I suppose I should be sort of relieved, well I am in a way, but I really wanted her to tell me to stop being so silly and go home. So, Im having a bit of a panic now.

jane313 · 09/12/2005 16:19

either of you had your appopintments yet?

I am still waiting for my ultrasound
