GP unfriendly due to non vaccinated child

Our GP is a bit of a git anyway but the last time I went to him about a slight problem I had, he asked me about DD's lack of vaccinations. She hasn't had any because we are in that camp of thinking they are not a good idea. Anyway, he wasn't aggressive but it was the first time I had been challenged by a professional like that. ( DD has never been to see him as we see a homeopath if she as teething probs or whatever). When we get back to England I would like another GP because he is horrible but I wondered if it is possible to find a GP who is sympathetic to the non vaccinating parent as presumably they are all pro. Do any of you have an understanding GP?

My 6 mos baby hasn't had all of hers yet. She started at the correct time but I wanted to separate Meningitis from the others. I was worried when we went away about her not having had anything and my GP told me it would be fine. She's due to have the last jabs in 3 or so weeks and will be 7 months.

sorry, website going slow!

Jimjams · 21/09/2003 16:48

davros - didn't your dd have aP rather than wP as well (or can you now get thimerosil free wP - I keep getting confused on whether its available yet)

Oakmaiden · 21/09/2003 16:58

Jimjams - would like to know where you found the old vaccine schedule - and when it was used. By my calculations it menas that the schedule was:
4 mths - DTP
7 mths - OPV
9 mths - DTP + OPV
15 mths - DTP + OPV
Is that about right? Would love to know where to find this, cos I want to spread the vaccines out as much as possible next time, and it would be handy to have this as a "discussion point" with my GP.

Also - has anyone read this book ? Is it any good?

Davros · 21/09/2003 17:49

Irk! Not sure what aP or wP is but I know that we had ALL thimerosil-free - infanrix, hiberix & menjugate. Does that make sense?

Jimjams · 21/09/2003 18:21

yeah- infanrix is aP (acellular pertussis) I think they want the children back on whole cell pertussis (wP) but I think they may all contain thimerosil. Could be wrong though- that was the siutation a year and half ago- it may hav changed now.

Jimjams · 21/09/2003 18:23

Oakmaiden- I got it from "The all colour guide to First Aid and Family Health" with Dr Trevor Weston MD MRCGP as the consultant editor. Just an old family health book.....

Davros · 21/09/2003 19:31

Yeah, they said that aP is less effective but I said More effective than not having it at all and it was OK.

Jimjams · 21/09/2003 19:38

there's not much difference between infanrix and the whole cell anyway in terms of effectiveness.
