..and was fine.
Was sooo scared about the fitting. Had my son 6 months ago (second) not convinced I want another.
Anyway, I wanted to let anyone else worrying about this know it is fine!
I faint, get panicky etc etc with these things and I had no need to worry, doc was great but really it was fine.
Just like having a smear, only a little more prodding etc.
Was done about 45 mins ago, did not feel faint afterwards, haven't got any period pains (as yet) and feel very happy that will not be taking risks getting pregnant!

thanks!! I am also considering it!

FangAche · 19/10/2005 12:17

Corrin - You're lucky then!! I had the Mirena fitted in January this year and it was pretty uncomfortable afterwards and during. But that had alot to do with the crappy GP needing about 3 attempts! My friend was given a local anaesthetic coz she's had 2 C-sections and never had a vaginal birth. She thought is was absolutely pain-free.

I had quite sore period pains afterwards, but just as bad as I'd normally get! They lasted about 24hrs then its been fine since.

Although I am very greasy and spotty now.... and have worried about the hormones contributing to anxiety attacks. BUT thats all assumptions rather than facts.... and mine is the hormone-loaded mirena.

Thanks for this. I'm seriously considering this atm, but am a bit put-off by the 'intervention' in my personal bits. So your info is of great hel.

Easy · 19/10/2005 12:18

help even

hoxtonchick · 19/10/2005 12:19

i had one put in about 8 weeks after i had dd. it felt a bit 'twangy', but not painful at all, & no problems since. it's lovely not having to think about contraception for 8 years!

gmh · 19/10/2005 12:27

I had one fitted for six years before children (apparently quite unusual, but no problems at all), and one 6 weeks after DD2 -definitely reccomend it and even though I had CS, had gone through to 2nd stage labour so much easier to do.
Definitely reccomend it

Brilliant...!
I went for the non-hormone one...my body and homrones don't mix well (mood swings, nausea, low sex drive the list goes on!), I knew I didn't want to go down the hormone route after many attempts at different pills.
We've always used condoms up to now, but after a pregnancy scare last month (after only having one period!) did not want to take the risk.
Honestly girls, if I can do it anyone can!

GMH - I was told they wouldn't actually fit one unless you had had children!!

Hoxton - 8 years???? Mine has to come out in 5yrs!

Corrin · 19/10/2005 12:29

Had CS first dd and VD for ds...

I can't believe only 5% of us use this as contraception...

Well despite my delivering two big babies vaginally my GP was unable to fit my coil after two attempts. Apparently I have an anteverted (I think) uterus. Had all sorts of scares with the first one, plus scans including internal, xray, pg test etc. So I'm a bit at all you who are sorted with it!

Corrin · 19/10/2005 12:47

I have to say it took her a good 10 minutes to figure out how she was going to get it in (presume that's what was going on as had a couple of instruments already in situ and legs a kimbo!) I can only assume is something to do with tilted womb (think that's right) goes backwards apparently... wasn't a problem though and process didn't hurt at all and hardly noticed when put thing in....

yoyo · 19/10/2005 12:50

So once you have had it put in are you aware of it at all? How does it affect your periods afterwards?

Corrin · 19/10/2005 12:54

Am not aware of it at all. Have thought I can feel the threads...but thats prob because shes has left them a litle long until had next period.
Can make periods heavier...will let you know on that in three weeks. Can not be as bad as before babies...used to be in agony (fainting on toilet etc) since births have been much better.

Oops, hope you're still around. At six weeks things will still be quite...well...relaxed down there too I would imagine so I doubt you'd feel much at all.
PS - Feel the same way about MN...if I'm not sure about anything I come on here and either instantly know what I needed to know, reassured, etc. Think its great, that's why I wanted to say what I said about the coil. Posted note yesterday saying how scared I was...was going to chicken out myself...

I'm a bit late onto this thread but had been thinking about posting on this subject too. After DS2, I have had a copper IUD fitted (didn't know you could get ones with hormones) that apparently lasts for 10 years (should see me well on the way to menopause, then ) I started out with a lot of spotting the first four months, and random pelvic pains throughout the month, and now have SUPER PLUS PLUS heavy periods but I think things are beginning to settle down a bit now. Face is very spotty these days, lots of PMT: I had forgotton what it's like to have your own hormones controlling things after years of contraceptive pills (and a couple of babies in between)!
