just in case we run out of space !

Yep a walk on the beach and a bag of chips would do it for me too!! Grin

Cakesandale · 01/03/2011 14:34

God, I hope I didn't shame you into it! That'd be ironic, I do it so rarely i couldn't find the iron.

Cakesandale · 01/03/2011 14:38

It was a bit of a serious oversight for no-one to mention a prosthesis Shock

In my case, I have to be honest and admit I am sometimes not listening properly. I have missed quite a lot that way Blush

SparkleRainbow · 01/03/2011 14:38

Nope no shame here.....Wink but you did remind me that I had to do it, or no-one would have any clothes to wear tomorrow. Still you are helping the time to pass with more fun. Grin

smee · 01/03/2011 14:41

Now see you've said chips. I WANT SOME NOW. Have grabbed the Biscuit tin to distract myself.

Kurri, I know what you mean about having to dig for information. My BC nurse is fantastic, but she was best on immediate treatment and pretty useless in terms of things like wigs and such like. fwiw I got one - Erica's her name - some of you may recall, but she only came out of her box for my post treatment party. Grin

MAS, meant to say, but it's good to hear you're a stripes person too. I have a draw full of stripy t-shirts and tops. Though DS told me the other day, he's bored of them and wants me to go for spots soon. Confused

smee · 01/03/2011 14:41

Cakes, why no weird voices?! I'd demand my money back. Grin

LimeJellyforBrains · 01/03/2011 14:47

Grin Iron-ic Cakes, great pun! Just got in from DS2 Occupational Therapy appointment, so I'll join you in a swift Brew and Biscuits before dashing out to the school run.

Port can't be installed until next Tuesday so now bloods also Tuesday and first chemo next Thursday. FEC-k! [too much Father Ted emoticon]

Cakesandale · 01/03/2011 14:48

Tempting, smee - but it was free! makes it even better!!!!

Cakesandale · 01/03/2011 14:50

Hadn't spotted that LJ Grin

Next Thursday will come around soon enough - spend the extra time have lots of nice treats. Having a port is quite exclusive, y'know. Us NHS types just had to get our arms prodded each time.

SparkleRainbow · 01/03/2011 14:53

Very good LJ - excellent spotting of an inadvertant pun! Grin You lot are too clever for me.

Right off on school run, via charity shop, gots lots of kids stuff to drop off, before they notice it is missing.

Thursday is a big day LJ, so I agree with cakes, lots of treats between now and then. Have a Brew and a Biscuit to start with. Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 01/03/2011 15:23

yes, lots of treats are in order for LJ !
Have had my biscuit ration for today, but nice food later for dh's birthday !
I'd be happy with chips and a beach- i am very low maintenance -am always a bit amazed at people who regularly haver spa days, manicures, pedicures etc.. I like getting my hair cut and some highlights, but that's it- I find the term 'pampering' a bit cringe !

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 01/03/2011 16:10

ooh yes - and some of those nail things they do now look absolutely VILE

LimeJellyforBrains · 01/03/2011 16:13

Am with you re the word 'pampering' MAS! Although the classes Kurri linked to do look very worthwhile, especially with regard to the eyebrow/lash problem (and it's great to have them endorsed here), the phrase "a specially designed 12-step skincare and make-up regime" had me a bit Shock! Twelve steps?? For years my 'make-up regime' for going out consisted of applying my signature bright red lipstick and that was that!! Must admit I am now paying for the lack of moisturising etc. It's something when your 70 yr old mother suggests you start using anti-wrinkle cream! Grin

Chips and beach for me too then Smile

Yes I intend to have plenty of prawns and blue cheese in the coming week! Found I missed stilton etc more than anything when pregnant.

Is it really true you're not supposed to have take-aways on chemo?

LimeJellyforBrains · 01/03/2011 16:17

MAS (and SR?) What is the 'nice food' for DH's birthday later? Come on, give us a drool! Envy

Cakesandale · 01/03/2011 16:21

LJ - i think you should be OK with a takeaway as long as the place you get it from is reliable in terms of hygiene. Certainly avoid roadside vans and also those open salad and fruit cart things in supermarkets and restaurants as all sorts of people have breathed their germs over those.

SparkleRainbow · 01/03/2011 16:23

Ooo prawns and blue cheese....I am not even prevent from having them at the moment, and now I am craving them too! Grin I uess takeaways is because of possible food poisoning too, when your defences are down. Home cooked or ready meals well heated for you then! The coop do some nice Indian ready meals if you have one near you.....Grin not that I know or anything Blush

Speaking of nice food.....I have potatoes, leeks, bacon.........and not much else in the fridge. The only think I can think of is to rustle up a leek and bacon pasta bake for tea, what do you think?

SparkleRainbow · 01/03/2011 16:24

should say prevented, not just prevent obviously Blush

SparkleRainbow · 01/03/2011 16:26

Yep LJ you would be fine with our local chinese....good food, well cooked, not sure they do delivers to you though, quite a long way from Staffordshire to Herts.

smee · 01/03/2011 16:45

LJ, I skim read that as 'chips and bleach' Shock

Nobody ever told me to avoid take away food on chemo. Mind you I might not have been listening or something..

SparkleRainbow · 01/03/2011 16:46

Definitely avoid chips and bleach LJ.....not a good combination at all Grin

KurriKurri · 01/03/2011 17:48

Are you going for pasta bake Sparkle? - I've made stuffed courgettes, but I think I've put too much garlic in they smell quite powerful Grin

I hadn't heard about avoiding take away food, but I suppose it makes sense to avoid anything if you're not sure of the cooking conditions.

I agree about pampering generally (with the exception of the make up workshops, which really are nice Grin). How do people with very long fancy nails cope - it must be very restricting, I'm sure if I had them I'd accumulate a lot of soil, bits of dog biscuit, and other filth underneath them Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 01/03/2011 17:56

I have cheated with dh's supper by buying nice shepherd's pie for us (I love s pie,as does dh- my mum makes the very best ever so can't compete)) and because ds won't eat mashed potato (the fool) he has some paella - there are corn chips and guacamole and a bottle of chilled prosecco and some pistachio ice cream. I know there is chocolate as ds bought him a stash for his present !!

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 01/03/2011 18:37

oo yum! To all of you! Envy

LittleGreenFr0g · 01/03/2011 19:17

You are all making me hungry. I managed to cook the kids tea but haven't got the energy to cook anthing for me, so will wait for DP to get home which should be very soon :)

When I asked about food and drink restrictions (as food is very important to me), I was told everything is ok in moderation. Hmmm, I guess I will have to see how I feel but can see the point about dodgy takeways

Figgy - sounds like all went ok and you were well looked after. I bet its such a relief to have started treatment. Roll on Thursday.

Ok, what do I need to do in the next couple of days before chemo starts? I remember that I need to start drinking lots of water. Take snacks? Things to pass the time - books, cards etc? I need to buy a thermometer. What else?

LimeJellyforBrains · 01/03/2011 19:34

That sounds lovely MAS, and shepherd's pie one of my favourite winter foods, so comforting! Stuffed courgettes with too much garlic sound great too! Kids had quick sandwich tea after swimming. I have made risotto for me and DH with all the bendy veg I found in the fridge Grin

I was told to avoid unpasteurised food, raw/runny egg, paté, etc - like pregnancy diet. Plus avoid take-aways! S'not fair!
