apparently. Doctors use wieght as the default blame for everything.
I am 6ft tall. I weigh 92 kg (approx 14 stone). I have HBp. I have Fibromyalgia 9cosntant muscle pain, numbness, eye problems etc)

The doc wants me down to my ideal weight which he says is 62 kg. He said "I think you'll find that if you get down to that wieght your HBP will go dwn to normal and all your other health problems will clear up as well, you are carrying far far too much weight"

Hmm. I've had Fibro pain since I was 19. When I weighed 8 stone and was a size 10! He then told me
"do you never look at yourself in the mirror and think I could look so much slimmer" and "you obviously have really bad genes inherited if you say your mum has HBP.

So can anyone recommend a diet for me, as I need to lose 0.5 kg a week till i reach my weight.

oh and I walk 6 miles a day to and from school, plus another walk of at least 1 mile in the afternoon. I can't do high impact aerobics because of my Fibromyalgia. I won't go to the tgym because I cannot go during the day and in the evening it's packed and you have to wait

Hello,

I am 6ft1, and weigh 78 kilos. That is a BMI of around 23 (so fine). I wear 12-14 clothes.

When I weighed 72 kilos (20 years ago Sad) I was at my slimmest, a size 10-12. I have never felt the need to be slimmer than that.

I have quite big bones (wide hips, big hands etc.)and am quite sporty though, and have put on some pounds due to age (almost 40) and pregnancies now (78kg).

Anyway, what I want to say is: So 62 kilo sounds crazy LOW for your height!

I have a friend who is 6ft1, who weighs around 65 kilo and is really skinny, and was unable to conceive until she put some weight on. She often looks too thin I would say.

I think your doc is confused.

I think walking is good, and also low GI food (personally I cannot do low carb, as is the fashion, as I need the energy for the exercise I do 4 times a week).

Losing weight is a good plan, but setting yourself an unattainable unhealthy (!) goal (at 6ft and 62 kg your BMI would be 18.5) is not a good plan

Saltire,
Is your toast white or wholemeal? If white, it is higher in carbohydrates (sugar) than wholemeal. Do you have anything on your toast? Butter? Jam? Do you use full fat milk? If so, swap to semi skimmed, or even skimmed milk in your tea.

Milk, yoghurt and cheese are high in fat. If you really want to trim your diet, I suggest incorporating some tuna (no mayo) in your sandwiches, and smoked salmon. Rather than butter or margarine, you can use low fat Philadelphia cheese with your salmong sarnie. I know, smoked salmon is sort of fatty, but it is full of omega3, which is good for both your heart, your muscles and your joints, along with mackerel in tomato.

Also, green tea, no sugar, no milk is a good start to the day. It helps your metabolism.

And you need to drop the kitkat.

have you ever lost weight before? or counted calories?
If not there are a lot of tips out there that could help.Tablespoons for dinner is way too little How about joining WW or Slimming world?
I would just look at counting calories, aim for 1500, and try to stick with low fat, and fill up on fruit and veg.

OK, not everyone believes in BMI, but assuming you're not muscular, your current BMI is in the overweight category. But then again - your doctor's suggested weight would put you in the underweight category!

I'm 5'11 and about 70/71 kg, and quite happy with my weight. I'm a 12. I would look dreadful at 62kg.

I think you need to change your doctor. And possibly make a complaint.

Looking again at BMI, it seems that to get into the healthy range, you'd need to slim down to about 13 stone (that's the far end of the bracket, so 12 stone would probably be better but since I don't know you / your frame only you can be the best judge)

I also noticed just now that you are walking with small children, so very slowly. You need to really build up a sweat and be out of breath in order for those 6 miles to count as cardiovascular activity, ie weight-loss inducing. You could not take the children in buggies, and walk fast?

Saltire · 21/01/2011 10:20

I lost a fair bit of wieght - 4 kg - when i first moved here, becasue i was walking like I am now, but without a buggy and 3 year old in tow.
I ahven't put it back on again, and have stayed a size 16. I do stretching exercises as recommnded to me by the pain management clinic.
I keep food diraies most weeks, and
bread - that half and half stuff
use olive spread
semi skim milk
Can't drink green tea as it makes me sick. I nly have 1 cup of tea first thing int eh morning and occasionally one in the evening. the rest of the day it is squash I drink. Or water

"He then told me
"do you never look at yourself in the mirror and think I could look so much slimmer""

Your dr said that to you? That would make me Angry!

JackieJake · 21/01/2011 15:45

Maybe, but your grammar problems will persist.

MrsFlittersnoop · 21/01/2011 16:13

Your current weight means your BMI is 26.6 - slightly overweight but nowhere near obese.

Sorry - I think your Dr is nuts. 62kg at your height = a BMI of 18.5, which is bordeline medically underweight. Ideal BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9.

I'm a couple of inches shorter than you, and used to suffer from an eating disorder in my early twenties. My lowest weight was 62kg, I was size 8-10 and I could only keep my weight down to that level by eating less than 700 calories and walking 6 miles per day Sad.

Ormirian · 21/01/2011 16:19

Eh? Is my maths way off whack, or does he say you should be under 10stone? Seems a little low for an ideal Hmm
