I did once. It was very subtle and gentle. Good though.

The therapist was giving me some new tools to use for certain situations with which I had been coping badly.

I found the tools very useful.

i have - it was good but not a long term solution unfortunately.

Had it to give up smoking, and it lasted 3 months

Very relaxing and very calm..... a lot of history taken down before hypno started

katymac · 20/09/2005 20:07

I did for goingt o the dentist - it did help - but I didn't like it much (I think i'm too much of a control freak)

charliecat · 20/09/2005 20:08

Ive had it for smoking and TBH id say ive been mentally unstable since

SenoraPostrophe · 20/09/2005 20:09

I have - to give up smoking.

It's not so much about being in someone else's control as someone else helping you to re-prioritise conflicting thoughts (eg. the wish not to smoke vs wanting a fag).

Actually i don't think it would have worked had he not been a friend who was in training and using me as a test case, but that's not unusual - the prices are quite high and some hypnotists deliberately re-arrange appointments just to give you extra motivation.

It did alleviate the withdrawal symptoms though - it wasn't too bad at all. and though i smoke again now, i have permanently lost one of the things i hated about smoking and that was my total and utter reliance on it. I never used to be able to go on an plane without being a nervous wreck at the other end - i can now.

it feels like someone is talking to you while you're half asleep.

spidermama · 20/09/2005 20:20

I was always fully aware of what was happening. It was just very, very relaxing. More like meditation really.
I was in that place in my mind where I'm half awake and half asleep. Very pleasant.

charliecat · 20/09/2005 20:21

Well ive been very up and down, miserable, for the past few months and it dawned on me that i could actually pinpoint it to the time of being hypnotised.
Relaxed was all I felt.

SenoraPostrophe · 20/09/2005 20:22

did you give up smoking at that time too, cc?

LOL, I did, and I have battled with myself that it wasnt stopping that has made me grim
On new years eve or was it day, I was crying wishing myself dead. Not my most normal behaviour, was fine the next day. Have had a few moments like that since.

Lonelymum · 20/09/2005 20:26

Nothing to add here, but let me know if you go for it and it works Aimsmum!

charliecat · 20/09/2005 20:26

becasue it really isnt me to be like that. And norm the next day. yeah one session.

SenoraPostrophe · 20/09/2005 20:27

giving up smoking can change the way your body deals with food - that's why people snack when they give up. if you're anything like me, it could be that that's caused it - doesn't mean you have to start smoking again, but eating good things (fruit etc especially) more regularly may help. seriously - i get like that when I haven't eaten for a while and it was 10x worse when i was a non smoker.

SenoraPostrophe · 20/09/2005 20:28

...also the stuff in the gi diet book might help - I plan to buy a copy when i give up again (soon-ish)

spidermama · 20/09/2005 20:28

I was very down for weeks, possibly months after I stopped smoking. It was almost like grieving a lost friend.

it might also be a coincidence, cc.

it does sound like you need counselling or something though.

crazydazy · 20/09/2005 20:34

I wanted to try that too Aimsmum, let me know how you get on.
