How many bpm?

Ulysees · 19/09/2005 13:38

How many beats per min does your heart beat? Mine is 71 at the moment but was higher last night. Just curious as read an article where a mum wore a monitor all day and at one point hers went up to 120 bpm

Apparently women should be between 60-80 bpm on average.

your heart has to beat faster when taking exercise. 60-80 bpm is a resting level. Fitter people can mangae quite well with a rate of 40-50 bpm.

Ulysees · 19/09/2005 13:43

yes I know it's the resting, my dh used to have a very low pulse when he was fit. Hers went up with road rage though, she didn't exercise for the whole test.

ah, road rage! Aarenaline is produced by the body as a "fight or flight" response, i.e. preparing the body for a punch up (or running away). Adrenaline speeds up the heart when you are stressed.

tissy · 19/09/2005 13:46

I expect you knew that, too. I'll get me coat.

Ulysees · 19/09/2005 13:47

I know, I had mega stress recently and thought my heart was going to jump out it went so fast

Rsting bpm of 60 for me.

Dh's is about 40.

Hulababy · 19/09/2005 21:35

Mine is generally between 90 and 100, often rising beyond 100; sometimes much much higher. If I exercise it is sky high! BUT I do know that thisis the case and I have been checked out - it's just the way I am. LOL! Been like it for years now and no known cause. Have palpatations, etc. too where it really races along!

Ulysees · 19/09/2005 21:57

Blimey hulababy, I'm verging on hypochondria so glad mine isn't that high! Pleased you're ok though

Yes, it used to always worry the gym staff when I wore the heart monitors when exercising. their alarms to say bpm was too high kept going off. Luckily no one but me could hear it - I think Resting it is fine and doesn't both me. But when racing or I get the palpatations it makes me tired - abit like running around all day (but without the exercise).

Ulysees · 19/09/2005 22:08

Can I ask what checks you had? Just curious as my mate gets palpitations but she has ectopic heartbeat (whatever that is??)

I have had scans, physical checks, blood pressure, blood tests and worn the 24 and 48 hourmonitors. Also been monitored in hospital in the CCU ward. They simply found that I have a faster than normal heart rate with is pretty regular (has the odd irregular beat but not happening often enough to be considered abnormal).

dinny · 21/09/2005 22:27

normal heartrate is between 60-90 bpm.

when my dad had his most recent attack of ventricular tachycardia he saw his was 240bpm on the monitor in the air ambulance. v scary.

soapbox · 21/09/2005 22:28

Mine is about 60bpm resting, but I've had quite a few incidents of racing heart over hte last month or so which was making me feint. Seems it was linked to an early menopause so HRT and some beta blockers and I'm all sorted now

JoolsToo · 21/09/2005 22:29

soapbox are you on HRT?

lucykate · 21/09/2005 22:30

i have a condition called supra ventricular tachycardia, born with an extra nerve which sometimes kicks in, top speed 200bpm. only happens occasionally luckily. can easily be rectified by lazer surgery if i wanted, but bit scared to have it done.
