How many bpm?

How many beats per min does your heart beat? Mine is 71 at the moment but was higher last night. Just curious as read an article where a mum wore a monitor all day and at one point hers went up to 120 bpm

Apparently women should be between 60-80 bpm on average.

70 - but fat and not very fit!

dinny · 21/09/2005 22:33

lucykate, my dad has VT - he had two ablations this year. consultant thinks he may have got the nerve (my dad calls it Mr Nasty!) on the 2nd attempt. my dad's on beta-blockers full-time now, which he thinks is keeping Mr Nasty at bay.

how do you manage your attacks? my dad's last one was a v close call as he had shocks and amioderone and had abad reaction to the drugs.

sorry, hijacking a tad.

Jools - yep! I was told I'd be risking more than an insignificant risk of breast cancer if I didn't

Still don't feel much benefit from it, although the racing heart thing has stopped, I think thats due to the beta blockers rather than the HRT!

Keep meaning to change the HRT though, as this one is not ideal - think I might go for the libido boosting ones - DH won't know what's hit him

JoolsToo · 21/09/2005 22:42

if you're lucky - it didn't work for me

the cancer thing is a bit of shocker I thought all the data said HRT increased the risk? Confused

lucykate · 21/09/2005 22:43

dinny - as they don't happen very often, i have tablets at home, verapamil. if that doesn't stop it, then have to go to hosp for injection of same drug, but bigger dose. last check up was 4 yrs ago, just before having dd as i was worried how it would react to labour. had no probs with either labours, however, no home births for me! worst attack was when i was at high school and lasted 5hrs. nowadays, if it happens, its just for a minute or so

macwoozy · 21/09/2005 22:45

It's always sensible that any heart palpitations get checked out, most are benign but worrying about it doesn't help. Sometimes the speed at which the heart beats isn't necessarily a serious problem. It's the type of palpitation that is more important, and can usually be picked up on a 24 hour monitor. If its worrying you Ulysees I'd pop down to the doctor, even if its just to put your mind at rest.

soapbox · 21/09/2005 22:46

It does raise it - but for my age group by 1 per thousand - from 4 per thousand to 5 per thousand. Which although percentage wise sounds a big risk - absolutely it is still low!

All the tests came back negative, but have to go and see chest consultant next week for follow up. Just hoping it was a one off. Havent been looking after myself too well lately, too much cafeine and not enough sleep etc, bit of a wake up call.

Ulysees · 29/09/2005 14:52

glad to hear the tests were ok BM. Hope you're looking after yourself now xx
