I am here alone with the children, I don't feel that I am going to faint (though had no warning the times I have) and DH should be home in half an hour, but is it anything to worry about?

sophiecattoo · 04/10/2010 17:45

It's probably a migraine. If there's a neighbour who can sit with you maybe ask them to come around. Otherwise just make sure your children are in a safe place for the next half hour till DH gets home in case you do faint or something. Stay near a phone/ keep your mobile phone in your hand. See a doctor tomorrow.

thisisyesterday · 04/10/2010 17:46

i would get checked out fab. at the very least ring NHS direct.

JiggeryPopery · 04/10/2010 17:49

Well I can't diagnose you over the internet, but you are describing a migraine - they come in all sorts of shapes and sizes.

Pain - check
nausea - check
spaced out - check

Sometimes migraines are very scary. And I'm not saying it is a migraine, but it sounds like one. You could ring NHS direct, and make an appointment with your GP to put your mind at rest - for reasons of 'just in case....'.

Just a thought - how much caffeine do you usually have in a day, and has today differed at all? Caffeine withdrawal headaches are vile.

hope it passes and you feel better soon.

Flighttattendant · 04/10/2010 17:49

I would see the GP tomorrow assuming all is well tonight...if it happens again, ring the out of hours x

FabIsGettingOnWithLife · 04/10/2010 17:50

I have diagnosed with having migraines but tbh I am still unsure if that is what I have. I am on a lot of tablets for them. The pain has gone but I still feel really sick. I feel cold too.

FabIsGettingOnWithLife · 04/10/2010 17:51

Thanks Flight, I will. I pm'd you by the way.

FabIsGettingOnWithLife · 04/10/2010 17:52

Jiggery - I missed you post. I don't drink caffeine and haven't for over a week now, maybe 2 weeks.

OP posts:
tooposhtopost · 04/10/2010 17:53

If you haven not had migraines before then see a doctor today. Especially is you actually ARE sick.

FabIsGettingOnWithLife · 04/10/2010 17:56

I have had sharp pains in my head before and feel out of it and sick. Maybe I just expected migraines to be where you have to lie down in a darken room. I can't bare noise at times too. The hospital doctor said I had X migraines but can't remember what he said though I think it started with an A Confused.

I just want DH home.

OP posts:
JiggeryPopery · 04/10/2010 18:00

ok - rule out the caffeine thing, that would've been over by now.

....but I wonder if this is a latent effect of your migraine tablets?

Have a think about what you've eaten/drunk today and write down some notes - a) if you're feeling light headed now you might not remember later for your GP (though you can print out this thread Wink ) and b) in case it happens again, you can compare.

Next question - and this is unlikely but worth thinking about - do you have a boiler, is it old, do you have a carbon monoxide detector/alarm? It doesn't sound like CO poisoning tbh but better safe than sorry and all that.

FabIsGettingOnWithLife · 04/10/2010 18:01

Well that wasn't the best idea. I asked the kids to be quiet as I wasn't feeling well and if I did faint could they put a blanket on me. My 5 year old pipes up that he would just kill himself so he could see me in Heaven Sad.

OP posts:
FabIsGettingOnWithLife · 04/10/2010 18:03

Boiler is 2-3 years old and we have a CM alarm.

I have eaten not much tbh. 2 small mini omelettes, some pieces of roast chicken, chicken, lemon and tarragon soup, small piece of home made chocolate cheesecake. That is the first bit of choc in over a week, could it be that?

OP posts:
Fluffypoms · 04/10/2010 18:05

I get this too.
If i have had a bad migraine in the past few days, whenever i bend forward my brain feels like it moves Hmm and get a real sharp pain.

JiggeryPopery · 04/10/2010 18:06

There's caffeine in some chocolate - not very much, but it could be that.

Five year olds and their understanding of life and death.....sheesh! I hope you said, I would prefer a blanket thanks.

Kids in front of tv till dh home, I think.

Flighttattendant · 04/10/2010 18:07

Oh bless your ds2. Smile

Sorry for the delay with replying to your PM, I can't see the top of the page when I'm on here unless I scroll up and that's something I rarely do!

FabIsGettingOnWithLife · 04/10/2010 18:28

DH home, taken over making our tea and will put kids to bed. Feel yuk. Thanks for holding my hand. Still getting used to this though I now realise I have had them quite a few times before, just didn't know what was going on. Doc thinks they have started because of an accident I had and also thinks DD is having a variation of them Sad.

OP posts:
thisisyesterday · 04/10/2010 18:31

definitely see a GP tomorrow fab.
i don't want to scare you, and this is probably really unlikely, but a friend of my mum had this and it turned out she had a brain haemmorhage.
faced with the facts, it probably IS a migraine... but better to get checked out anyway

FabIsGettingOnWithLife · 04/10/2010 18:47

Won't they just say it is a migraine? I have had a CT and MRI recently and they were fine.

OP posts:
3littlefrogs · 04/10/2010 18:51

Where abouts in your had was the pain? Was it like being hit with something hard?

werewolf · 04/10/2010 18:57

Low blood sugar is one of my triggers for migraine Fab - maybe yours too, if you hadn't eaten much?

FabIsGettingOnWithLife · 04/10/2010 19:12

It was on the right side towards the back. I am thinking a combo of not eating much but eating chocolate for the first time in a while.

OP posts:
3littlefrogs · 04/10/2010 19:14

A sudden pain like being hit with something, at the back of the head can be a sign of something more serious, like a bleed, however, it is rare.

I would still see a doctor asap, as IME migraines usually are more concentrated in the front of the head.

PumpkinsCantDanceTheTango · 04/10/2010 19:33

Hope you feel better soon afbb

thisisyesterday · 04/10/2010 20:12

yeah i suffer from migraines and they tend to be on the front of the head, sometimes localised over one side

good if oyu've have clear CAT and MRI recently tho

ChilledChick2 · 08/10/2010 20:12
