I am suffering the agonies of toothache and would like to be able to safely overdose on painkillers.
Does anyone have any knowledge of what i can do safely?

Currently i am taking

  • 500mg anti-biotic. one 3 times a day
  • co-codamol two 4 times aday (not to exceed 8 in 24 hours)
  • 50mg diclofenac/misoprost 200 mcg one 3 times a day (no more than 3 in 24 hours)

what could i safely take more of?
what are the effects of taking extra?

thnaks

As SuzyFPAP says, A&E might be able to prescribe you better painkillers. Severe unbearable pain is an emergency in my book.

Maybe you need stronger anti-biotics. It's a right PITA, but your mouth won't numb properly if there is infection. If you are going tomorrow, you could ask him to inject anyway to give you some relief for a few hours to sleep. That what I asked my dentist once.

should also have added Fybogel to the list comes with co-codamiol i s'pose.

to make it worse DH isn't at all sympathetic and thinks i'm playing on it . he hasn't exactly said so but i can tell; he's gone for a walk with my mum and dad, dd and ds and thought i ought ot go as a walk 'would make me feel better'. every step i take around the house is pounding in my mouth and he thinks a nice hill-walk will help. aaaggghhh

Have had that level of pain from a dental abscess, Dentist told me I should have seen someone at casualty or a MIU. A bad abscess can be dangerous, can you not call your emergency dental centre? There should be one somewhere

Kelly1978 · 05/09/2005 07:05

How are you doing AQ? It must be badly infected.

NotQuiteCockney · 05/09/2005 07:58

Another vote for: get some more ABs. They generally work faster than that, if things are getting worse, this AB isn't working for your infection, you need another one.

I do wonder whether some painkillers might make more sense in a dosage/kg way? Or whether the issue is more liver function, which of course isn't per kg.

Chewing gum with Xylitol - very good for helping to clear infected gums, throats sinus etc.

There are other painkillers you can have at the same time as these - I had some in hospital recently - but they were only available at the hospital or a pain clinic - sorry I don't know what they were called.
