I've just (today) been referred to a breast clinic for a sore breast - please tell me not to worry!

Thanks Auntie Maggie, when you wrote about the doctors knowing what cancer looks like, it was reassuring, in light of what the radiographer said. I?m waiting for the consultant to write to me, assuming I don?t get any calls in the meantime. How are you? I hope the wow effect from your new look is still there.

Mum72, thanks, that was also reassuring about the lymph nodes. I hope your mammogram results are ok. I was told that you normally hear quite quickly if there?s a problem, so I?m keeping my fingers crossed for you. I hope you?re ok as well.

Plantwoman, good luck for tomorrow, and give us an update when you?re ready to. Fingers crossed for you too.

Thanks for your good wishes, my app isnt til late afternoon. Dh is coming home from work early to pick up DS1 from school and look after the other 2.
Am feeling very nervous....
I will of course let you know what happens...thanks

AuntieMaggie · 24/09/2010 10:03

Glad you found that reassuring :) (I didn't when they were talking about my liver!)

From my previous experience you do normally hear quickly if there's a problem or if they're concerned. When I look back and realise how many appointments I had in the space of a couple of months it surprises me cos it didn't seem that many at the time.

They don't seem to worry about swollen lymph nodes do they?

I've hurt my neck so a bit grumpy but dosed up on strong painkillers which is helping to chill me out :)

Hope you're all ok and good luck for today PW.

Auntie Maggie, I read back what I'd written and it sounded a bit insensitive, I tend to suffer from foot-in-mouth syndrome. How's things with you today, is your neck any better? I'll be thinking of you tomorrow.

Plantwoman, hope you're ok.

plantwoman · 26/09/2010 17:57

Hi
My doctor did a thorough examination and she seemed to think it was normal breast tissue that was perhaps inflamed. I also didn't realise when I made my appointment that my period was due, so she has suggested waiting 6 weeks and coming back to be re-examined. If she thinks there is anything to worry about or I am not happy, she will refer me to the breast clinic. So I do feel a bit better, but need to keep an eye on it really.
Hope everyone else is ok...

Mum72 · 28/09/2010 07:44

Aunt Maggie,
I was thinking of you yesterday. I do hope your appointment went well. Am thinking of you, please update us when you feel you can. I really have everything crossed that you have not been told anything worrying.

Plantwoman - that does sounds promising Smile

Well I am freaking myself out a bit atm. I seem very very calm and have convinced myself that all will be fine on Thursday when I get my results. No idea why!!!The lump is still very much there Sad But this calmness is freaking me out. I now wonder whether this is one of those things that is going to slap me across the face big style on Thursday as I am totally unprepared to be told any bad news.

Or perhaps I have just totally stressed myself out in previous weeks (this seems to have been dragging on for ages) and now I just dont have the mental energy to sit here fretting and almost crying like I was a week or 2 ago. Life is also very busy atm - a great distraction.

That said my tummy does still flip over with that horrid sicky feeling everytime I think of Thursday looming nearer and nearer.
Perhaps its going to hit me anytime now and I go into complete melt down!! No idea - but just find it weird I am so calm after being verging on hysterical not so long ago.Confused

AuntieMaggie · 28/09/2010 12:52

Thank you for thinking of me....

Well nothing to worry about apparently Hmm had an ultrasound and was speedily discharged, and was so relieved/shocked that things were ok it wasn't until later I thought "well why was it so painful then?!"

So I guess thats a question for my GP...

I'm sure you'll be fine Mum72 and that if there was anything to worry about you'd know by now.

Plantwoman, that sounds reassuring.

Mum72, I'm sure you'd have heard, if there was anything. From what friends have told me, they recall you VERY quickly if they need to.

Auntie Maggie, that sounds good too, glad they didn't find anything.

Lots of :) and a virtual glass (bottle?) of wine for everyone.

Mum72 · 30/09/2010 17:53

Well I am back and relived to report I have "odd breast tissue" but nothing sinister!

Grin

What a relief!!!

AuntieMaggie · 30/09/2010 19:01

Hi there.

I have had 2 lumps on my right breast for about 3 months now. They have not changed in size but they have not gone away.
I went to my GP today because I have been losing sleep pver it. GP examined me and said she didn't think there was anything to worry about and that they are just fatty tissue - Then she referred me to the Breast Clinic at the local hospital. Why would she do this if she says I am fine? Do you think it is a precaution or is she trying to be gentle with bad news?

Sorry to ask so many questions, but my mind is working overtime. I thought a visit to the GPs would sort this out

Thanks

PS: Has anyone here not been referred when they had a query about a breast lump?

ninjanurse · 29/11/2010 21:05

I had a lump at the beginning of the year, saw the GP who wasnt concerned at all, said I had 'generally lumpy breasts' anyway (errr right thanks for that!!) but said she would refer me anyway, as that is the protocol, to get any lumps checked out at the hospital. By the time I had my hospital appointment the lump had shrunk, but they still did an ultrasound anyway, which was normal.
So I think the answer is they just refer everyone, even if they are pretty sure it is nothing to worry about... Hope all goes well.

Sazza7 · 30/11/2010 12:57

Thanks for that. I feel easier about it now.

Sazza7 · 30/11/2010 21:08

I have just got word of my hospital appointment. It is on Thursday morning! That's from speaking to the GP at 4pm yesterday, so Im very impressed with the speed.
I have another question if I may ask it - When the Mammogram or breast ultrsound is carried out - do they scan both breasts or just the one you had the complaint about?
I have had pain in the other breast for years now and would like them to scan this one too but not too sure if they will?..

marriednotdead · 30/11/2010 21:39

They usually check both Sazza. It's helpful for them to compare as well as to spot any problems.

Have been through the system twice myself and was very impressed with the speed it's all dealt with and their professionalism.

Try not to worry.

Sazza7 · 30/11/2010 21:48

Thanks a lot. I think I'll be fine. It's a really small soft lump and I am told that cancerous lumps are hard - I just want to have my mind put at rest really.
