hello mners
had one fitted about 3 months ago and im slowly sliding down a wave of depression there are other factors too (not major) but im feeling cr*p and im putting it down to the coil as i felt great before - ready to deal with anything sort of attitude. i have a ds nearly 3 and a dd 16 months and what im feeling is deffo not pnd .
have breastfed or been preg for the last 3 years so i thought the mirena and no periods (ive nearly forgotton what they are !) would be an easy option (turns out its not )

i just wondered if anyone else had felt like this after having a mirena fitted ?

ps i would love another baby but circumstance difficult at the moment so hence coil

Sansouci - The Mirena coil is a IUD as well. And the answer is YES you can.

I had a bit of a scare a few weeks ago. Thankfully the tests were negative.

You should test as soon as possible as apparently you are at an increased risk of Ectopic pregnancies with a coil fitted.

But there are a few MN'ers that have conceived and went onto give birth whilst having a coil implanted!

lucykate · 22/09/2005 11:08

yes you can get pg, if its moved. if you are, you'd need it removing straight away

lucykate · 22/09/2005 11:09

the coil removed i mean, not the baby, keep the baby, babies are great!

expatinscotland · 22/09/2005 11:11

It should be removed if it can be found! An ultrasound can usually spot it if it goes migrant.

One woman in the clinic where I used to work got pregnant on the coil. It was unable to be located on ultrasound. She had a normal, healthy pregnancy and delivery, and the coil was eventually found - in the placenta .

lol LK!

MrsBluffC · 22/09/2005 11:13

omg!!!!

sansouci · 22/09/2005 11:16

panic! panic! panic! ectopic pg? arghhh! and we can't afford another baby! i think i'll go pour myself a big glass of white.

Toothache · 22/09/2005 11:20

Sansouci - It's highly unlikely though! What makes you think you might be pg? How long have you had it fitted for? And is it definitely still there?

MrsBluffC · 22/09/2005 11:21

can you pour me one too please? a big one!! gee. to go online first rather than listen to male doctors to have never "been there". highly recommend it

expatinscotland · 22/09/2005 11:21

Coils are VERY effective, sansouci, especially the Mirena. On par w/sterilisation. Of course it does carry some risks, as all contraceptives do. Ectopic is one of those, but as Toothache pointed out, that's very, very rare.

sansouci · 22/09/2005 11:30

i had Mirena & it made me depressed and caused me to gain weight. i can't seem to tolerate hormonal contraceptives anymore.

my breasts have become enormous & are tingling. i am ravenous... just waiting for morning sickness to kick in.

oh dear.

sansouci · 22/09/2005 11:32

feritilisation actually occurs in the fallopian tube & then the fertilised egg travels down the rest of the tube to implant itself in the lining of the uterus. maybe it's traveling but won't be able to implant in my case??

bootsmonkey · 22/09/2005 12:51

Stephiemum - I've only had it out 2 weeks, so can't really give a full picture yet. On leaving the GP's I felt freed up somehow and generally feel more relaxed. I feel much less anxious too, but never realised I was feeling anxious until I wasn't IYSWIM. Also the libido has returned quite miraculously & unexpectedly! DH isn't coming near me with a barge pole though as we are currently undergoing some delicate negotiations regarding a second child & I don't think he trusts me not to tamper with things!

foxinsocks · 22/09/2005 14:17

the immediate horrendous nausea disappeared within 48 hours, the agonisingly painful boobs disappeared almost straight away but it took months for me to feel back to normal.

like sansouci, I seem unable to tolerate anything hormonal at all anymore

bootsmonkey · 22/09/2005 14:21

I have enough trouble tolerating my own!

Toothache · 22/09/2005 14:43

Sansouci - When is your AF due?

stephiemum · 22/09/2005 18:21

thanks Bootsmonkey! that makes me a little more hopeful!. Foxinsocks, you mention nausea? was this a side effect of the Mirena? do you mean it stopped when you had it removed? i hope thats what you meant cos my nausea is horrendous (24/7 ) and i'm really, really hoping that it will go when i have the Mirena removed. Could you let me know if this was the case with you - thanks

sansouci · 22/09/2005 20:50

oh, Auntie Flo. she should be here around Oct 8th.

ess · 22/09/2005 22:24

Hi guys- had the damn thing taken out-hurrah!!!wasnt painful at all- just like a smear. I have to say I feel so much better already, don't know if that's mainly relief but I'm much more relaxed and less uptight. Let's hope this is the turning point.

Sugarmag · 23/09/2005 07:33

Has anyone who has had bad experiences with the mirena been ok with pills? Boots - glad you're feeling less anxious.

Louiseweston · 23/09/2005 07:53

Good morning all, thank you you those who gave me some advice yesterday, I was woken up again at 12.15 this morning with agonising pain again in my left side and in my leg even after taking loads of painkillers yet again. I finally got back to bed again at 2.30. I am beginning to wonder if this thing is not for me or whether I should really give it a bit longer. I felt so bad last night that I was considering removing the coil myself. I feel absolutely shocking this morning, tired and nauseous. I would appreciate some advice on whether to persevere. Will things eventually get better? Louise xx

stephiemum · 23/09/2005 08:47

louiseweston, i'm so sorry you are suffering so much i really feel for you and hate to say that your symptoms sound all too familiar. My problems started within a few days of having the coil inserted and 4 years later they are still there. I'm not saying that you will be the same cos everyones different and sometimes symptoms do settle down. I still get bad back and abdo pain and feel nauseous every day (especially on waking , like being pregnant agin!). Can't really advise whether you should have it removed thats a personal choice but now DH has had 'snip' mines coming out as soon as he's got the 'all clear'. My advice to you would be stick it as long as you can but don't go on indefinitely and waste years of your life like i have. Sorry thats not much help but its so hard to say whats best to do.

Toothache · 23/09/2005 09:00

Sansouci - 8 Oct??? If your AF isn't due for another 16 days then how could you be pregnant??? ....unless of course you have a very long cycle. I don't think you have anything to worry about sansouci. However, it could be a premonition so you better be careful over the next few days whilst you are probably ovulation.

Satine · 23/09/2005 09:32

I had a Mirena coil fitted three months ago and so far, I'm delighted!
