New miracle cream for excema????!!!

Hattie05 · 30/08/2005 00:08

I saw someone mention this cream the other day, but for the life of me cannot find the thread now.
Began with a T and it seems to work wonders for some excema sufferers.

I was also recommended it by a nurse, but forget the name .

Does anyone know what i mean?

dont know - but please someone post it im having a mare with my DD's eczma at the mo and new creams from doc are useless!

Hattie05 · 30/08/2005 00:23

The nurse told me this cream had been designed to work on something completely different, but has become apparent it works quite well for some types of excema.

Your poor dd, i'm suffering really bad myself at the mo, i have it on armpits, inside of arms and elbows!! The skin on my elbows is virtually non-existent due to the steroids i'm putting there and i'm just in agony all the time.

Got it Hattie its PROTOPIC!!!

Hattie05 · 30/08/2005 00:35

oooh that wasn't the one i was thinking about but could be worth trying
Thought i'd already tried every other cream out there.
Thank you!

might ask about that one - TA! She is 2.4 yrs and her knees, face, elbows and back are red raw and bleeding from scratching - its hard to tell a 2 yr old not to scratch!

sparklymieow · 30/08/2005 00:43

found it...... took a lot of searching. here is misdee's post!!

tacrolimus can work well for many people, my dd didnt fit crtieria to try it when it came out, so have never tried it. might be worth pushing for the urgent appt. phone the hospital and ask for any cancellations that may come up.

Hattie05 · 30/08/2005 00:44

Fingers crossed for her that she'll grow out of it .

My mum tells me there wasn't a hint of dry skin on my body until i was five and have suffered with it ever since.

So i wonder if there is truth in the rumour that if you get it young you'll grow out of it and vice versa?

I thought i had mastered keeping mine under control but its not at the mo .

The best thing for your dd is to keep it as greasy as possible so that if she scratches it doesn't damage the skin anymore. I'd recommend Aveeno, which is safe to plaster on constantly. Or try out protopic like i'm about to

tacrolimus!!!!

Hattie05 · 30/08/2005 00:45

Wow!!! thanks sparkleymieow, and that is the one!!!!

I have been searching and searching for that.

Right i shall ask my doc for both creams now and try them out.

Thanks Hattie, Sparkly. She uses epaderm at the moment, oilatum plus in the bath, diprobase and hydrocortizone. Its not doing a bloody thing at the mo and i cant do a thing to help! . Will go back to docs and ask about protopic and tacrolimus.

Hattie05 · 30/08/2005 00:48

Oh i just googled it and tacrolimus and protopic are the same thing!

OP posts:
sparklymieow · 30/08/2005 00:49

I searched misdee's posts, bloodly hell she posts a lot

Hattie05 · 30/08/2005 01:20

lol i know i tried to search them too . Sorry misdee wasn't prying just wanted to know what this cream was!

I have just been reading up on that cream, i am hopeful although a bit nervous because apparently when used orally longterm it can cause cancer, and they do not yet know what damage using on the skin can cause, so they recommend you keep out of skin when it is applied .

But i'm still gonna try and persuade my doc to let me try it!

OP posts:
sparklymieow · 30/08/2005 01:23

keep out of skin!!!! that will be hard!!! lol

Hattie05 · 30/08/2005 01:24

oooops!! i always know when i'm meant to be in bed

Hattie05 · 30/08/2005 01:25
  1. remove skin and apply cream.

  2. hang skin in dark room to dry.

  3. meanwhile spend as much time as you like in the sun

  4. replace skin and continue with your day!

Hasn't Protopic been found to cause cancer now and we all have to avoid it again? Or was that just Elidel?

KateF · 30/08/2005 07:46

Thanks you guys - am going to get docs appt today as my eczema is terrible at the moment. My hands are raw and I can't sleep for itching. Will ask about this cream as am already on top whack steroids. Just one thing - can you use it while breastfeeding?

fee77 · 30/08/2005 07:58

We have started using an aloe vera cream with propolis, from forvever living - we only started last month, and dd's skin is much clearer - she still has flare ups, but we whack this on, liberally and it clears relatively quickly. It is not cheap though, £12.96 a tube, but i couldn't cope with all the worry from using hc.

KateF · 30/08/2005 08:16

Tried that fee77 -works well for dd2 but not for me

vickitiredmum · 30/08/2005 12:56

you can order that online fee77? (thanks hattie & sparkly by the way!)

anniethenannie · 01/09/2005 10:21

Protopic/Tacrolimus is not advisable for children under 2 - Try Elenas Nature collection -www.elenascollection.co.uk - for a completely natural vegetable based range for Infantile Eczema - and its available on the NHS
