I saw someone mention this cream the other day, but for the life of me cannot find the thread now.
Began with a T and it seems to work wonders for some excema sufferers.

I was also recommended it by a nurse, but forget the name .

Does anyone know what i mean?

We have used tacrolimus but be aware that, even though it doesn't damage the skin as hidrocortisone, it has a long list of secondary effects and problems if interact with other drugs (this is the same type of medicine used to lower the immune response in people who are about to have an organ transplant), there has also been a link to skin cancer in children, and considering the cream has been in the market for 2-3 yrs, that was quite a fast development. Not advised for under 2s, and can only be prescribed by dermatologists, which sometimes are lenient to prescribe it both for its secondary effects and because it costs about £60 per tube.

Thanks Chandra, i've read a bit about this also and seen the link to cancer.

I was looking for myself as although i've had and felt under control of my excema all my life, i now have it really severe and over the last few years have used hydrocortisone in intervals and i'm at the point where i have no skin left on my arms! its white, see through and incredibly painful. I'm not sure if i want to try this tacrolimus but i want to go armed with info to my GP and try and insist that he refers me to a dermatologist.

Thanks for info x

You may also mention about Elidel (very much as protopic, but just in case they ask... )

vivkitiredmum was that a question? If so yes, it is available online - i just googled aloe vera and propolis. Postage was free

Went to docs tonight. Antibiotics again as hands infected plus more dermovate. Asked for dermatology referral but was told nothing more they could do! Will try another GP next week. Any suggestions?

tacrolimus ha sonly been on the uk MARKET FOR APPROX 5YEARS. its side effects (like the cancer thing) arent known just yet. it can make you sensitive to sunlight, but the cream works by surpressing the immune systemi think my GP said. it was mentioned a couple of months ago as a possible treatment for dd1 flare up as she has been pretty bad over the summer, but for an outdoor loving girl who reacts to suncream, i just didnt want to use it. it is very expensive and i think that atm it can onyl be perscribed via dermotologist, with repeats perscriptions at the GP.

when it 1st came out i was all for it as it means no more steroid creams, (dd1 has been on oralsteroids at times as well), but atm am unsure.
