Ingrown hair on pubic area.

Hi i have a ingrown hair just at the top of where my pubic hair starts. I have antibiotics but am in agony. I have just tried a hot compress and am about to have a salt bath. Is there anything else i can do? It's a mess, even the nurse winced when she saw it. It's like having a ping pong ball down there. Tia

I sympathise! Although now not being pg i have had a good old dig at all the old ones now I can see them. Squeezed, popped and dug. Brilliant - quite gutted nothing else to pop. But had one on the crease of my pubic area when pg and sadly missed my op with it as I couldn't see what I was doing and have completely cocked it up. Sadly. Good luck with yours!

Wow poor you, the glamour of pregnancy huh? hot flannel definitely the way to go. I sometimes find that if the first attempt doesn't work and makes it go a bit scabby then a couple of days later picking the scab reveals the blighter. For one that big how about a magnesium paste poultice, like you would use to draw stings and other foreign bodies out. I am also slightly jealous. I work helping people who obsessively skin pick and hair pull, I am so glad they don't know how much I relish stuff like this myself.....

QueeferSutherland · 20/08/2010 21:38

I'm sure I heard the active igredient in the lotions is asprin.

Maybe if you disolved a soluble one into a patste and applied it it would do the job.

I feel your pain. I get them, but had to go to the GP when I was pg because it got so bad. I was given antibiotics.

QueeferSutherland · 20/08/2010 21:39

Yep, asprin.

Doodleydoo · 20/08/2010 21:40

Secretnutella - I have just eaten and still couldn't resist - am going to keep this on favourites and play it when feeling hungry!

This thread has reminded me of DS's 'eyeclops' microscope/video camera thing, I must get him to bring it home from Exs; looking at spots and ingrown hairs through that thing is amazing... you see them all huge and magnified and gross on your T.V.

whomovedmychocolate · 20/08/2010 21:44

Have you tried magnesium sulphate paste - it draws impurities out of the skin (it's called drawing ointment, designed for getting splinters out) put a bit on it, plaster on, leave overnight and it should draw the hair to the surface, then get your DH to pull it out.

In grow go - It's got a high alcohol content so not sure possibly check with midwife but don't really think it would get that far into your bloodstream? so long as you don't drink it either :)

slowlygoingbonkers · 20/08/2010 21:48

Where would i get drawing ointment from? Never heard of it before. To make things worse we are at an engagement party tomorrow.

magnesium sulphate from a pharmacy, if it works please let us know how long the hair was!

jujuthejetmum · 20/08/2010 21:52

Oh sorry and yes it does work - my beautician didn't know about it but now recommends it. Think it may be beyond that for bonkers tho' Hmm

slowlygoingbonkers · 20/08/2010 21:54

I will be straight on here to announce the length Grin i am strangely curious as to how long it is.

to try to avoid in future use exfoliating scrubs on any hairy area, helps stop them before they develop. Also there are various lotions at boots now called things like 'ingrowing hair stop' will probably be with the hair removers.

slowlygoingbonkers · 20/08/2010 21:57

Can i use the ingrow go as a preventive?

OP posts:
OverEasyEggs · 20/08/2010 22:01

think so, not now you've got one obv but to prevent you getting more

jujuthejetmum · 20/08/2010 22:05

Yes just read the label and there's nothing on there are no warnings other than to patch test for skin reaction 24hr before and not to use on broken or inflamed, sun burnt skin just says to apply morning and night to affected area until skin clears. Use several days prior to waxing to help lift ingrown hairs and to ensure complete hair removal.

choufleur · 21/08/2010 09:33

Did you get it?

slowlygoingbonkers · 21/08/2010 11:41

No not yet. It was so painful that every time dp tried to get it i had to tell him to stop. Getting some drawing ointment today to see if that helps.

purpleduck · 21/08/2010 11:52

i still have flashbacks from that popthatzit site urgh!!!!

slowlygoingbonkers · 21/08/2010 12:08

Tmi alert. Dp just squeezed it and a load of pus came out mixed with blood. Does this sound like the hair will be nearer to the surface now? The actual lump has got smaller but still no sign of the hair.

OP posts:
Giddyup · 21/08/2010 13:31

Probably but I would try not to break the skin too much if you want to put the drawing ointment on the area.

choufleur · 21/08/2010 17:28

The hair will be in there somewhere. If it scabs it may be more visible when the scab comes off.
