As far as I can tell? Goodness that's low. Almost half the population who is eligible haven't made their choice.

There was no realistic vote for change though. Labour has committed to Conservative fiscal policy, you can't reverse the damage without serious investment.

Look at who they stood against Corbyn, "the company owned by Praful Nargund, Labour’s pro-privatisation election candidate standing in Islington North on Thursday, has made nearly £17 million pounds from private healthcare in nine months, Companies House accounts show."

They're just not a credible alternative.

Then vote for the Lib Dems or someone else. If I couldn't get behind a major party I would love to vote for the Green Party and show that I actually think the environment is the most pressing issue. I never vote Green as they won't get in and my vote wouldn't influence who was in charge. But if I didn't want a main party in I would support the Green party and indicate what is important to me.

The problem with not voting - as we see here - is that it leaves a vacuum into which others can project their views of why you didn't vote.

So someone may abstain believing it sends a message that none of the local dandidates are good enough. But that can easily be interpretted as them simply not caring about politics, or being happy for others to make decisons for them, or complacency about the result.

Luckily I don't really care what some randos on the internet think of me!

I dont understand this. surely to vote he would have to be near home as that’s where his polling station is? So he could have picked up his ID easily. Or do you mean he had decided to stay at his girlfriends two hours away last night and couldn’t be arsed to come home to vote? Because that’s nothing to do with voter ID. Thats apathy.

He has been staying at his girlfriend’s, but works close to home.

He finished work- went to vote, and wouldn’t have had time to go back for his ID and get back to our polling station in time. His driving license is usually in his wallet, but he’d left it at his girlfriend’s by mistake.

I hope that clears things up and stops any further character assassination.

I did vote Green. But, like I've said, there is no realistic alternative to our three neo-liberal main parties. It's perfectly understandable why people don't vote if none of the likely options offer anything materially different.

But it is foolish people who project that way - serious people can understand the myriad of reasons. There is no point worrying what foolish people think! The politicians understand low turnout. They also know what level of activity was put into a given seat, which has an impact.

And of the 52% what is the gender breakdown?

All this crap about being disrespectful not to vote etc , its a choice , people fouggt for the right to viote if you want to as there was no choice , not to force people.
if I don’t believe in any of them why would i vote? I. My area its a two horse race cons or lib dem, one is in power and crap and the other runs our local council and is crap, therefore unless I voted one if these my vote is pointless. If the system changes I may think otherwise. All the political parties should be looking at the low turnout and seeing what they can do to improve aa potentially a lot of lost votes. Loads I know never voted as they have no faith in any of them. People then say you can’t moan if you don’t vote etc, yes I can, I have voted for a party before ans then moaned aa not done what's promised. It was a for gone conclusion labour would get in .

I was surprised the turnout was so low considering the media had bigged up how unhappy the people were with the government and how tough the cost of living crisis is.
So almost half the electorate didn't bother voting. Hmm
They have no right to whinge so if they don't like how the country is run.

If course they have a right to winge if they want its their tac money, if I had of voted it wouldn’t if changed the outcome in my area, with FPTP my vote doesn't really count, in 8/12 yeara we will back again with a conservative government as lets face if thats what happens , no party can make everyone happy. So peopld get fed up after so long and then get someone else in. Then full circle again. I knew labour would win, forgone conclusion.
