Really interested in how the turnout is going to be, and also how much the photo ID will lead to queueing.

Can you please satisfy my curiosity and say how long the queue was between you and the desk where you got your ballot paper?

Bump

It's early yet. Lots of early voters will probable have voted on their way to work where they probably aren't allowed to or don't have time to scroll MN.

Give it time.

Boomer55 · 04/07/2024 10:26

Couple of people. We were one of the pilot schemes for voter ID, so are used to doing it, so that didn’t delay anyone.

HorseAreBetterThanHumans · 04/07/2024 10:34

We went about 7.30am.and no queue at all.

We did see someone walking away looking furious, so couldn't work out if she forgot her ID or was just a Tory voter 😁

tryingtofindbutfailing · 04/07/2024 10:36

No queue whatsoever, we went at 9.30 just after school run. Saw one person walking out as we walked in and as we walked out another person walked in. Literally a quick look at the name and photo on the Id, took about 6 seconds.

mitogoshi · 04/07/2024 10:36

Queue of 6 at 8.40 according to dp, I'm going after work at 3, figured school pick up time was a quiet time!

julie81 · 04/07/2024 10:38

Went about ten past nine, wrexham. No one else there. Just me.

SilverSimca · 04/07/2024 10:41

No queue, but passed some people going in as we were leaving. Plenty of people around though because a school was having its sports day in the same place!

US2gether · 04/07/2024 10:42

Other. Postal vote.

Seeline · 04/07/2024 10:54

It will depend entirely on when you go. There are definite peaks and troughs during the day.
South of the country looks like the weather is decent which will boost turnout there.

CassieMaddox · 04/07/2024 10:59

Only one person in front of me but there are 2 polling stations in close proximity and both were pretty busy as was the area in general.
It's a lovely day here and I feel like there was a nice buzz going on. Had a few chats on my way in/out.
My local Labour candidate was there so I said hello, shook his hand and told him how excited I was.
I was also subliminal messaging by wearing red.

FOJN · 04/07/2024 12:14

Just got back from voting. One person was being handed their ballot paper in front of me. There was a greeter outside the room checking people had ID with them before they went in. He wasn't checking the ID, just making sure they had it, presumably to avoid hold ups when they got to the polling clerks.
I was probably in the building for about 30 seconds.

VerityUnreasonble · 04/07/2024 12:19

Went just before 10 with DH, there were 2 people voting and 2 people in the queue being herded into the other half of the polling station (divided by address). A couple of people arriving as we left.

The people on the desk commented they "had a rush on" so I'm guessing it's not been terribly busy this morning!

Metempsychosis · 04/07/2024 17:08

Bump out of curiosity to see how it looked for the lunchtime/school run voters.

StripedPiggy · 04/07/2024 17:11

I voted at lunchtime at the village hall. There was no queue at all, which is hardly surprising considering that there are more cows than people round here.

US2gether · 04/07/2024 17:12

My partner lives in a small village where lots commute. He said it was queued up at 7 am before he travelled to work.

Iliketulips · 04/07/2024 17:12

Moderate queue at 9.30am, I don't normally have to queue. I've walked along the main road to the polling station four times today (for voting, shopping and work!) and definitely more cars turning to vote than normal. No idea how it's panning out, in a very safe Tory seat, but ElectoralCalculus sahing it'll go to LibDems and everyone I know voting LibDems (I'm not biased!).

Allmarbleslost · 04/07/2024 17:15

I went at 10am and there was no queue.

WhereIsTheHare · 04/07/2024 17:15

I went at 2.30. We have two separate tables for the two ends of town, and there was a queue of about 5 people in one, and me and two others at the opposite desk (though with a steady stream of people coming in behind. The photo ID didn’t seem to cause much delay - there was one person ticking you off the list while another looked at the ID and then scanned your ballot paper with an iPad. It was very quick - I was in and out of the building in less than 5 minutes, all very smooth.

Caaarrrl · 04/07/2024 17:16

There's never been any queue ever at my polling station. I live in a very, very safe Labour seat and have been voting at this particular station for over 20 years. The only other people in there ever have been my family members that have come with me.

Favouritefruits · 04/07/2024 17:21

Well they didn’t even ask for my ID at all, I sort of thrust it at one after they gave me my paper and said ‘do you not want to see this’ he glanced at it and said it was fine, no queues at all!

ButterflyBitch · 04/07/2024 17:24

About 3 people in front of me, took about 2 minutes to get my ballot paper. I went about half hour ago. Checked ID but as someone else said it was just a quick glance so didn’t take long.

Threefeetmore · 04/07/2024 17:25

I voted at 2pm . No queue

gggrrrargh · 04/07/2024 18:02

Went to mine at lunchtime. 4 in front of me, 2 behind. The ID part barely added any time, was in there 5-10 minutes

Jackette · 04/07/2024 18:04

No queue at 10.45 am.
