Turn out/queue watch. A Poll

Really interested in how the turnout is going to be, and also how much the photo ID will lead to queueing.

Can you please satisfy my curiosity and say how long the queue was between you and the desk where you got your ballot paper?

Small queue at 10am this morning but not caused by photo ID.
Caused by a voter who seemed utterly confused by the whole process.

Chillilounger · 04/07/2024 18:09

I voted at 4pm. Zero queues.

iwentjasonwaterfalls · 04/07/2024 18:10

I voted at half 12, my husband and I were the only people there.

Q124 · 04/07/2024 18:31

Voted at 5.30pm. One other couple in front of us.

Seeline · 04/07/2024 18:40

Went at 6pm and there was a queue! Probably about 6 people in front of us - we went as a family of 4.
Interestingly the staff had put a list up showing how many people had voted each hour - there had been 96 in the previous hour which had been the busiest. Never seen that before.

BobnLen · 04/07/2024 18:57

I went at 10 and no queue but it was probably a different story, early morning, lunchtime and early evening

JessyCarr · 04/07/2024 19:19

High turnout is expected here as the constituency is (most unusually) too close to call. I voted at about 11.15am and there were queues of about 10 people at each of the two desks (serving different groups of addresses).

Drove past again just after 6pm and it looked about the same.

Everyoneesleistheproblem · 04/07/2024 19:30

Been in the house 20 years and I was at a different polling station to last time and the time before. There seems to be more stations than previous years.

Went at 4.30. Three older people ahead and two more came in as we all left. I walked the 2 minutes into town centre and that polling station looked really busy. Mine checked my id carefully.

Everyone I know is voting from first timers to the disillusioned.

daisychain01 · 04/07/2024 19:36

We were in and out in 5 mins. 11.05 am out by 11.10am.

one chap in front of us, was very affable. A query about my last name on my passport being different to the voting list was resolved in a nano-second.

we're in a village so everyone knows each other, at least by sight.

nocoolnamesleft · 04/07/2024 19:40

I went at about 18:00. Not a queue as such, but a steady trickle. Parking was harder than usual.

space99 · 04/07/2024 19:52

I went 5.10ish and there were 3 in the queue before me and then 3 came straight after me. DC went late morning and was the only one there.

Jeckyl · 04/07/2024 20:04

We went at 10am and there were two people voting, one getting their ballot paper in front of us on our side of the room and then about four or five people came in after us so a steady stream I would say.

Relatively populated area on the edge of a large town, but loads of polling stations in close proximity. It’s next to the nearest large primary school so I expect pick up and drop off times were busy. However, it’s also close to some horrendous roadworks which might have put some people off voting entirely.

Our seat is not a safe seat for any party and is a two horse race, although I think the outcome is largely predictable.

Anniegetyourgun · 04/07/2024 21:03

We went about 2.30 to avoid the school rush. One person leaving as we arrived, another just going to the booth, one or two more came in after us. I asked the clerks (who I know) whether it was quiet; they said it had been "steady". I imagine there would be more of a rush after office hours and perhaps a quick flurry of shopkeepers just before it closes!

ExitPursuedByABare · 04/07/2024 21:04

No one first time. One person when I got my proxy

ArabellaScott · 04/07/2024 21:07

Steady flow at 6pm. We usually get.a.high turnout here.

Titsywoo · 04/07/2024 21:09

There has been a steady flow at our polling station (it is on the road we live on). Small queue when I went to vote at 4pm.

RufustheFactualReindeer · 04/07/2024 21:10

We went at 8pm as a family of 4. No one else in there, the polling person did say that it had been the busiest he’d seen in 20 years

I voted about 6.15pm after work and there was quite a queue which was encouraging. Nothing to do with ID, more to do with the old codger crossing off names who couldn't find the roads on the electoral roll 🙄

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 04/07/2024 21:15

I could see the paperwork that the woman was ticking off, I arrive at around 8.45pm
and from what I could see most names in the village were ticked. Massive turnout for this election I think.

PuttingDownRoots · 04/07/2024 21:35

Arrived at same time as someone else.
But 7 people queuing outside when I left a few minutes later.
At about 4.30pm

Willowkins · 04/07/2024 21:58

I'm still in the queue (arrived 40 minutes ago) but they've said we can still vote after 10 as long as we were in the queue before then. It's really encouraging to see so many people voting.

GOODCAT · 04/07/2024 21:59

Long queue at ours probably just over half an hour to get to the front of the queue went at about 8pm

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 04/07/2024 22:03

I went at about 5:30. Absolutely deserted when I arrived. One voter arrived just after me. I live in a small village in a fairly rural area though.

LostMySocks · 04/07/2024 22:03

Always peaks at ours as the trains come in and people vote on their way home.
The ID check at mine was quicker than the 'find your name and cross it off' that they have always done
