General election 2024

I can’t decide who to vote

disappointed101 · 03/07/2024 22:31

If I want change for the NHS, Education, protection of women’s rights, a stop to the boats but fair immigration for those who want to contribute to and integrate into our society, better funding for our armed forces and protection of British values, who should I vote for? I want to spoil my vote honestly but feel I should use it. #fedupofallparties

You could start by asking yourself if you're happy to continue the status quo. If so vote Tory. If not vote whatever it takes in your constituency to #GTTO.

LookingForwardToSunshine · 03/07/2024 22:34

That sounds good, I think I'd like to vote for you OP

StarDolphins · 03/07/2024 22:37

From your op, I would say definitely not Tories & definitely not Labour! Sorry not much help, I’m in the same position.

Swollenandgrouchy · 03/07/2024 22:39

Well in GTTO spirit I have postal voted SNP. Far from ideal but the only way to get the Tories out where I live.

Spot on... exactly the same issues - you'd also get my vote! Not sure who is similar - I'm also utterly confused....

Libre2 · 03/07/2024 22:57

Same - no help at all but I have the same desires and thus the same dilemma. I have NEVER felt this politically homeless.

Whitegrenache · 03/07/2024 23:16

Same and was about to start a thread asking for help!!

Trickofthetrade · 03/07/2024 23:29

Me too. 11.30pm on election eve and still don't know what to do. I have always voted but I don't think I can bring myself to vote for either Tory or Labour. I would also feel guilty not voting !

And also undecided or tomorrow :(

Out of the frying pan into the fire on some issues...

Advent0range · 03/07/2024 23:33

Have you looked at the voteforpolicies website? I was surprised by my answers!

RabbitsRock · 03/07/2024 23:35

I found a blog where the woman was telling you how to tactically vote to get the Tories out. It depends on where you live. We have to vote Labour.

verdantverdure · 03/07/2024 23:35

You could do Vote for policies and choose the areas you are interested in?

voteforpolicies.org.uk

verdantverdure · 03/07/2024 23:37

OR, if you want change then look up the tactical vote for your constituency on

stopthetories.vote/

BluntFatball · 03/07/2024 23:38

Reform.

Not because they will win, they aren't even really a proper party.

But it is THE protest vote that will be noticed this election. And it will tip the scale of discussion back in to the direction that will lead to what you want.

Your completely sensible approach to immigration, desire and protection for British values and womens rights will never be discussed until the main political parties realise that the discussion CANNOT be ignored anymore.

And the only way that will happen is when they get really scared of Reform gaining popularity.

OfDragonsDeep · 03/07/2024 23:38

This is exactly what I want too 🤷‍♀️

verdantverdure · 03/07/2024 23:39

I think you can get all that from the Labour and Lib Dem manifestos.

crowgift · 03/07/2024 23:40

If you want a change of government and want your vote to make a difference, consider tactical voting, these are reliable sites:
https://tactical.vote/
https://stopthetories.vote/

For example my aunt is a lifelong labour voter (and veteran women's rights activist in our community), she recently moved to a traditionally conservative constituency and there is a good chance that libdems can take it, but no chance that labour could, so she will vote libdem (with the aim of ridding the country of the conservatives) and the tactical voting sites confirm that decision.

Look up the tactical vote in your constituency

DontThinkJustDo · 03/07/2024 23:44

I'm the same. I said I wouldn't vote but it's too ingrained in me. Tories - god no. Labour and Lib Dems - destruction of women's rights. I've never felt my vote would be worthless before.

crowgift · 03/07/2024 23:52

For all their loudness at how much they care, the tories have done a number on women's (and children's rights) over the last 14 years. Once again they seem stunned at what has happened on their watch, but if we could only give them one more chance ...

RabidRose · 03/07/2024 23:59

I’m the same OP. I’ve already ruled out voting for the SNP or Labour and I refuse not to vote. It’ll be the best of a bad bunch for me. I loathe the SNP, John Swinney and all they stand for. The funny thing is, I met him a few years ago when I was teaching and that pathetic excuse for a human being asked me what I thought of Nurture rooms in schools. He was standing IN my nurture room at the time and the full visit was based around him having photos taken to look good - he didn’t care about the children, he never listened, it was all a big PR exercise. He didn’t give a fuck about the thousands of children that are let down so badly in our education system in Scotland either. It still infuriates me.

As far as I’m concerned, politicians aren’t bothered about real people, they’re only in politics to make false promises and line their own pockets.

Sorry for the rant! I’m very frustrated that there’s not one party that carries out what they promise.

As someone else said on the thread it’s the first time I’ve felt that my vote won’t count.

Edited

I'm voting Reform not because I think they will win because I know they won't. They do believe in banning gender ideology from schools, they know there are 2 biological sexes, male and female. They don't want trans women in women only spaces or races. They want to increase defence spending. They want to Reform the NHS to follow the French model where nobody waits forever for medical care and those who can pay do so and those on low wages don't have to pay but still receive the same care. They want to uplift personal allowances to £20k starting rate so to give incentive to get people off benefits.

Maddy70 · 04/07/2024 00:18

You can't have everything you want from any party so you vote for the best fit. Also we cannot have more of the Tories. The country is on its knees so consider voting tactically for whoever candidate is most likely to win over the Tory candidate in your area. Look at Carol Voyderman on Twitter she has good advice on tactical voting fir each area

Pussygaloregalapagos · 04/07/2024 00:23

Best fit for you sounds like LibDems…but depends on your constituency because obvs Lib Dem won’t be in power. Look at who is standing locally and maybe the polls too.
