General election 2024

I can’t decide who to vote

disappointed101 · 03/07/2024 22:31

If I want change for the NHS, Education, protection of women’s rights, a stop to the boats but fair immigration for those who want to contribute to and integrate into our society, better funding for our armed forces and protection of British values, who should I vote for? I want to spoil my vote honestly but feel I should use it. #fedupofallparties

I'm going down to vote before work this morning and I'm STILL asking this question 😢 Libdems are the tactical vote here but I'm not sure I can bring myself to vote for a party that doesn't know what a woman is! How have we ended up in this situation?!

BobnLen · 04/07/2024 06:28

I'm also voting Reform for reasons similar to @caringcarer and @BluntFatball.

BluntFatball · 03/07/2024 23:38

Reform.

Not because they will win, they aren't even really a proper party.

But it is THE protest vote that will be noticed this election. And it will tip the scale of discussion back in to the direction that will lead to what you want.

Your completely sensible approach to immigration, desire and protection for British values and womens rights will never be discussed until the main political parties realise that the discussion CANNOT be ignored anymore.

And the only way that will happen is when they get really scared of Reform gaining popularity.

Edited

Absolutely not.
Terrible for women as the leader excuses assault of women as 'mistakes'.

You could do Vote for policies and choose the areas you are interested in?

voteforpolicies.org.uk

I did this and apparently I agree with:
69% of Labour policies
68% of Tory
67% of Lib Dems

So a very narrow margin!

My top alignment was SNP - but I'm in England (it looks at all parties, not just your constituency)

Was very interesting doing it though, the questions did make me think

I'm voting Reform not because I think they will win because I know they won't. They do believe in banning gender ideology from schools, they know there are 2 biological sexes, male and female. They don't want trans women in women only spaces or races. They want to increase defence spending. They want to Reform the NHS to follow the French model where nobody waits forever for medical care and those who can pay do so and those on low wages don't have to pay but still receive the same care. They want to uplift personal allowances to £20k starting rate so to give incentive to get people off benefits.

They also think a biological woman’s place is at home with children. Plus their manifesto is not costed and undeliverable. They are a company with no accountability to their membership unlike a political party. They want to get rid of the Equality Act which protects women, pregnant women, disabled people, gay people etc. They want to withdraw from the ECHR which holds the govt to account over discrimination, inhumane and degrading treatment, actions to curtail free speech or right to assemble, right to have a private life etc. What is an increase in defence spending going to do for the country? In reality they’d be selling off and privatising the NHS given the chance. Their “party” (company) excuses racist ideology and their leader lies and makes baseless claims a la Trump whenever facing criticism about the members racism and homophobia (“it was a stitch up!” But no evidence to prove that). This isn’t even half of what is terrible about Reform. If the tories have made a hideous mess of the country Reform would make it much much worse.

And their depute leader blames women not staying at home with their children for the harmful effects of social media on young people.

if you’d be 70% happy with most parties perhaps look at who is expected to come first and second in your constituency and choose one of them so your vote is involved in the end result?

Labour first, Tory second - so it's a no brainer for me - GTTO

Financially, Reform would actually be best for me (Tory second) - but I have a conscience and do give a shit about the country as whole and would never, never vote for the reprehensible representatives and most of the uncosted and prejudiced crap they are spouting!

Thank you. On behalf of the nation’s children. Especially the millions below the poverty line.

I can’t decide who to vote

Nothing wrong with wanting out of ECHR. Lots of countries like the USA and Australia are not in it. We just replace with a GB Bill of Rights which would stop the EU dictating what we can do and not do about immigrants.

Yes it’s terrible we can’t subject human beings who happen to come from elsewhere to inhuman and degrading treatment.

The USA does not have a great human rights record. Our human rights record in the UK is generally quite good largely because we are in the ECHR. I see many wrong things with wanting to come out of it. It was created due to the atrocities of the Second World War and should remain in place to ensure that cannot happen again.

What's the EU got to do with it? 😕

WestofaCrave · 04/07/2024 16:45

OP, I could have written everything you have.

I absolutely cannot vote Labour. They sicken me. I can't believe anyone thinks they have improved as a party or can have a positive impact on this country. They have literally promised things that show they hate women. And the Tories need to sort themselves out before I can vote for them again.

I am looking forward to voting Reform later today.

Their court rules the roost and dictates what we can or can't do about sending illegal migrants back. Lots of countries are not signed up to obey the European Court of Human Rights.

verdantverdure · 04/07/2024 18:33

I don't think the ECHR has anything to do with the EU.

Didn't Winston Churchill help set it up decades before the EU even existed? I think it was called the Council of Europe then. (I might be wrong my modern history's not great. We did Henry VIth and dinosaurs Grin)

I think the only countries on the continent of Europe who are not a member are Belarus and Russia.
