Don't trust the polls if you want Tories out you need to vote

There are definitely still a lot of shy Tories out there as this article by Independent shows.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/tory-project-feat-super-mahjority-poll-b2570841.html

"While just under a quarter of those voting have said they will vote by post, the results break much more favourably for the Conservatives and Reform UK.

Considering only the vote by post, the Conservatives would get 30 per cent, Labour 33 per cent, Reform UK 26 per cent and the Lib Dems 6 per cent.

Pollster Lord Robert Hayward, a Tory peer, said the intelligence he has heard on postal votes suggests they are closer than the polls have suggested over the past few weeks.

All parties get an indication of how postal voting is going a few days before election date- Remember Laura Kuensberg famously getting in trouble for leaking that the postal votes looked grim for Labour, day before last election.

I think there are still a lot of shy Tories and also wavering voters will most likely switch to Tory at last minute.

So the message is clear if you want Tories out and especially if you want to see them utterly humiliated, then get out and make your vote count!

Come on guys get the tories out so kier and the cavalry can save us all.

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 03/07/2024 11:55

The %s of postal votes you've given from the article are from a poll, and what Hayward goes on to say is that he's heard the postal votes are closer than the overall polling (national, including postal and in person), but not as close as the polling suggested for the postal votes. So actually looking worse for the Tories, as postal votes were where they were closest to labour (presumably for demographic reasons, which is unsurprising). But I'm not sure it's worth much anyway because I don't know how reliable what this man has heard is.

I'd agree with your main point that everyone should vote though.

Is that true? I thought they weren't allowed to be actually counted until election night so any rumours are just that, rumours from people taking sneak peaks.

I'm still unsure of who to vote for. I live in a previously safe conservative seat, but it would be less safe now I would think. I keep changing my mind, then yesterday I'd decided to vote Labour, and felt okay (ish) that I'd finally made my mind up. Then this morning I heard an interview with David Lammy, who needn't concern himself with women's rights because he's black. This apparently gives him the right to interrupt a woman talking about women's rights, and accuse her of lecturing him on rights in a 'how dare you' tone. Then I did a bit of digging and discovered that he believes that men can grow a cervix if they want to. I can't, in all consciousness, vote for that - so I'm back to square one.

TLDR; David Lammy has just cost Labour my vote.

They deserve to punished for what they’ve done. You might not want a Labour government but surely to God you don’t want more of these greedy, immoral, self-serving, lying, thieving bastards

Moier · 03/07/2024 12:09

I am genuinely scared for my Grandsons future if labour wins.

Can I see your factual proof to back up your claim please?

Why?

(That's a genuine question, I'm interested in your reasoning)

KnittedCardi · 03/07/2024 12:26

That's OK. I am voting conservative. No labour vote here, and the Lib Dems are bonkers. So Tory it is.

paolo2145 · 03/07/2024 12:27

Yes it is true and here is what Laura said in 2019 which proved to be correct! https://www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/laura-kuenssberg-bbc-postal-votes-electoral-commission-a4311261.html

One of my colleagues used to be an MP and he confirmed that it is true that leading party figures have clear idea of postal votes before day of election.

All the rumours i am hearing online, is that postal vote is much closer than opinon polls .

Election watchdog's warning after Kuenssberg's postal vote comments

The elections watchdog has warned that it may be an offence to share information obtained at postal vote opening sessions after the BBC's political editor said she had been told that ballot papers already in painted a "grim" picture for Labour.

Are you joking? the country a mess, it only works for the rich.

Anyone voting Tory is a traitor, they have ruined this country.

WiseBiscuit · 03/07/2024 12:31

I really hope it is closer, because I don’t want Labour in and will be voting Conservative.

I do accept Labour will likely win but I am holding on for a miracle. My constituency is safe I think but I expect Labour will do it and that there are bad times to come. Ho hum.

But yes if any shy Conservatives would like to make sure they vote that is fine with me!

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 03/07/2024 12:34

All the rumours i am hearing online, is that postal vote is much closer than opinon polls

But from the article you linked, the polling said that postal votes would be closer than the in person votes. And also in your article it says that the postal votes are not actually thought to be as close as the specific postal vote polling.

What is in Labour's manifesto that's not in the Tory manifesto that will magically fix or change what you class as being a mess?

"Anyone voting Tory is a traitor, they have ruined this country."
The entire point of voting is for people to be able to vote for who they believe in. It is not up to some random person on the internet like you to insult someone else just because they've decided to vote for someone different to you.

All I would say is we can judge the tories by their actions over the last 14 years which have failed this country and led to a much larger downturn in standards across the board - wages, healthcare , housing , CoL - than most other countries have experienced

So I would like to give the other guys a chance

Your theory is flawed, being as there's no way to tell how any other party would have handled what we've all been through in the last 10-15 years. Who's to say that any other party would have done better?

Cattery · 03/07/2024 13:00

During covid they gave billions to their cronies who set up fake companies that promised to supply PPE they didn’t have. They discharged the elderly from hospital back to care homes therefore killing lots of other old and vulnerable people. They held parties whilst the rest of us abided by the lockdown rules they set, one of which was on the eve of Prince Phillip’s funeral where we saw the late Queen sitting alone to keep to the distancing restrictions. Johnson wasn’t interested in the pandemic. He said “ let the bodies pile up”. They are now planning to take benefits from the disabled instead of increasing taxes for the rich. Schools are crumbling. Teachers are leaving in their droves. The roads are full of potholes and as for the NHS; they’ve pumped no money in. How have you managed to miss all this and more??

Crucible · 03/07/2024 13:00

I appreciate that correlation is not causation, but a postal vote leaning Conservative isn't surprising, as postal votes are more likely to be made by older people ? The Conservatives most extreme dogwhistle politics has always been about maintaining the vote of the older population.

MermaidEyes · 03/07/2024 13:01

At the end of the day, everyone is free to vote for who they choose. But I can't understand how you can look at the shitshow this country has become and think yeah, I'll have a bit more of that.
If you've spent 14 years trying to squeeze your feet into a pair of shoes and they still don't fit, then maybe it's time to try a different pair.

Absolutely. Anyone who can’t see what they’ve done must have been living under a stone or is intellectually inept and probably shouldn’t bother voting

Because if you vote another party whom has other ideas, what's to say that they won't make the country worse by doing what they have planned / or haven't planned?
