The EU, US and UK will have bigger issues outside a C4 guy and people focusing on this story

First deflect - oh well maybe this was all a setup! Who can say???!

Then minimise - well, actually it doesn't matter because it's unimportant in the scheme of things and I'm much too clever and foresighted to care about this bit of trivia.

No it doesn’t matter to me, C4 investigations are not my thing anyway so I couldn’t care less how they are perceived, they do appeal to some which is fine.

I don’t think anyone will change their vote for Reform based on this story anyway.

If you’re concerned that people will vote switch on this guy being real or not I wouldn’t stress. People will just vote aa they were going to

too far to the left is as dangerous as too far to the right - the country has real problems, immigration being one, and a tough stance and clear policy is the only thing that will sort it and other things out.

If reform's popularity causes the bigger parties to formulate, fair, but firm and enforceable policies, great.

Have you read about the rise of far right parties in Europe which inflame tensions on immigration?

Reform are strong vocally on their anti immigration message but their manifesto says they're only going to cut down on 'non essential immigration '. Their promise on small boats is a lie; it's unachievable.

Does it bother you that people from ethnic minorities may feel intimidated and unsafe with such open rhetoric and dog whistle politics?

Notonthestairs · 29/06/2024 12:32

How can an investigation not be "your thing"? You prefer racism & homophobia to remain unexposed? I suppose that would make it easier to vote Farage.

Given that s/he came on the thread to introduce Farage's false conspiracy theory and went on to falsely attribute views to Reform (that police cars should be neutral when what the Reform member actually said was police shouldn't support Pride because gay people are 'nonces' - nothing to do with neutrality, all homophobia) I would say s/he's not worried about that, no

I much prefer political analysis on the radio or articles

I know what’s happening but that kind of TV isn’t my bag

TaxiCabsAndBusyStreets · 29/06/2024 12:40

Good news @easternstandard - Channel 4 wrote an accompanying article to the piece! You don't have to watch the tv version.

Notonthestairs · 29/06/2024 12:45

Clare Countinho has rightly complained about Farage's candidates using language like slut, bitch, bint and hag.

I honestly don't know how anyone can vote for a party where the activists suggest rounding people up to shoot them or replacing the police with paramilitaries.

EasternStandard · 29/06/2024 12:53

Thanks for links

To give an example I was listening to a brilliant piece covering each EU country post June election

The reasons for shift to right etc informed and rational

I know what’s going on it’s just a different way to access info

TaxiCabsAndBusyStreets · 29/06/2024 12:25

We should all really be grateful when Reform activists advocate shooting everyone of colour, it's so good for the political climate

Don't be silly, of course not - there have always been nutters, extremists, racists, and there always will be - they are best ignored and avoided (and punished if they break the law)

But I want to live in a country that is fair, accepting of peoples differences, has great public services. Unfortunately our general fairness and generosity makes us a magnet for all and sundry to rock up in dinghies un announced.

Immigration is categorically a good thing, but done in a proper fashion, with applications, checks and visas so said immigrants can hop on a plane and land welcomed, with a job to go to and somewhere to live, and a tax code, in numbers that can be accommodated without disadvantaging the current population.

Glad you accept this @propertymanager - given that your first post on this thread was to spread Farage's baseless conspiracy theory that this particular extremist was a plant and the exposè a setup, I'm relieved that you do realise that racist extremists exist and don't have to be invented.

I take issue with your stance that they are 'best ignored' - when they form political movements, their views need to be exposed so that we can all see what the party (or in this case private company) stands for.

Notonthestairs · 29/06/2024 13:09

I prefer not to ignore violent fantastists & thugs when they are running for political office.

The majority of those on the small boats are from Afghanistan which is currently under the regime of the Taliban. There is no way of applying for asylum outside the UK.

Reform's answer is take them back to France. France won't accept them back and has already been clear that they won't accept push backs.

We're not talking about a few 'nutters', these are candidates for a political party (Ltd company). If Reform isn't dependent on dog whistle politics, why are these racists attracted to them?

EasternStandard · 29/06/2024 13:32

I’m not ignoring this rise in fact I’ve been saying it’ll happen for some time

I am listening to informed views though and making decisions based on those

Interesting that they’re being defended by someone who peppers numerous threads with posts about “women’s rights”.

Reform's misogyny is another major issue - the endorsement of Andrew Tate, Farage's opposition to maternity pay, the sexist language as mentioned. That, along with the homophobia, do get a bit overshadowed by the violent racism but we shouldn't forget.

bombastix · 29/06/2024 14:58

its a party for old, male, pale and stale with a few foolish others who reckon racism, homophobia or sexism won’t ever apply to them. Which it will.

I assume right now that the Conservatives are crunching numbers and starting to test who looks popular as a new leader. And then they will decide where to draw the line and deal with Nigel Farage. If that leader is not also male, pale and stale I will be surprised. They will be wanting this Farage vote back.

I know of some single issue voters, who are voting Reform on women's rights. That's the problem with single issue voters, they don't consider the party as a whole.

Every party has someone that's said something shitty. Sadly. Which evil do we vote for?...

Oh this is easy. We vote for the parties who don't advocate shooting anyone who isn't white.

That leaves all the other parties except Reform.

Ifailed · 29/06/2024 21:05
