How do you vote? (Tactically etc)

How do you tend to vote?

I tend to vote tactically to keep the local Tory out (although it's a Tory stronghold so hasn't worked, yet).

This year there's an independent candidate I'd love to vote for, but realistically they won't win and I don't want the Tory's back in. Argghhhh. Now I'm torn on what to do.

How do you vote?

No problem, it was obvious what had happened. 😉

Yes, tactically. Identify the realistic options then vote for my preferred candidate from those.

I always think of the thousands of people who didn’t bother to vote for Clinton because she wasn’t left wing enough and so ended up with Trump. Voting is best seen as a method for determining who becomes leader, which is what it is, rather than as merely an opportunity for political self-expression.

Another tactical voter here. We have a tory at the moment and it's the first time I have ever had a tory as my MP. I didn't vote for her, but thought I'd give her a chance. It wasn't long before she was justifying party-gate and voting against free school meals. She has also blocked a LOT of her constituents on Facebook and Twitter. I was blocked when I commented on one of her posts. I was quite shocked as I tried to make my comment as measured as possible and wasn't at all rude. I now follow a parody account to see what she's been up to!

Pippippip2024 · 04/06/2024 18:48

I have the same problem, always bloody labour gets in where I live 😟 I just don’t vote anymore, it’s completely pointless

IrishMammy4evr · 05/06/2024 07:45

I loved my job but after labour took over the amount of box ticking and paperwork completely took away from time with patients. I worked in mental health so maybe that’s why it was so damaging. I left to raise my sons who are both autistic but planned to go back. Feedback from old colleagues made that decision change. I joined nursing to help and care for people not to be a pen pusher. Sorry if this offends. Nurses are heroes it’s the bureaucracy that I hated

RufustheFactualReindeer · 06/06/2024 20:21

I live in a tory safe seat

at the moment we do not have a labour candidate 😳

does anyone know the latest a new potential MP can be nominated…i know i could google but Ive tried and i can’t see anything (unless it literally smacks me in the face)

noblegiraffe · 06/06/2024 20:28

Nominations need to be in by 4pm tomorrow.

RufustheFactualReindeer · 06/06/2024 20:29

Do they?

interesting

thank you very much noble

noblegiraffe · 06/06/2024 20:30

Yep, here you go:

I'm surprised there's no Labour candidate, I thought it was the Tories that were scrabbling around at the last minute.

RufustheFactualReindeer · 06/06/2024 20:35

So i found out about it on Tuesday….to be fair someone might have been nominated between then and now that Ive missed, but ds2 seems to think they still don’t have any one

its an incredibly safe tory seat

noblegiraffe · 06/06/2024 20:48

I hear Eddie Izzard is still looking for a seat...

theresnolimits · 06/06/2024 21:09

I really want to vote Labour (I only didn’t under Corbyn) but they have no chance in my area. We’re a LibDen target but I find them unappealing.

It’s been a quandary but I’ve now decided to gift the LibDems my vote and say it’s a vote for a Labour govt.

I put an X in the box next to the name of the person I wish to vote for.

Thank you, Einstein!!

Kendodd · 06/06/2024 22:12

I'll look online and vote for whoever has the best chance, out of Labour, LibDem or Green of getting the Tory out. I was very glad to see Reform standing to split the Tory vote. They didn't had a candidate for a while and I was even thinking , bloody hell, I'm going have to join them and stand myself.

Iwasafool · 07/06/2024 09:14

My choice would be Labour but no chance of them winning here so I will vote Lib Dem as they have a chance, small chance but I'll take that.

Inanun2 · 07/06/2024 19:35

Always voted tactically here where I live- although even that hasn’t worked so far. No point voting for a party I support if they have no chance of winning in my constituency , but a vote against the majority party just might swing it if others do too.

emmetgirl · 07/06/2024 19:42

I'm voting Labour which is my choice but I'd definitely be prepared to vote tactically to get or keep a Tory out.
It so happens that my constituency's Tory MP only has a small majority and it's Labour who'll keep him out this time.
The neighbouring constituency is again a small majority tory and the Lib Dem has the best chance of beating him. If I lived there I'd be voting Lib Dem

Hdkatznahtw125sgh · 08/06/2024 18:50

I live in Scotland (but am from England).
westminster elections - Labour (would consider SNP if req to keep Tory out)
Scottish elections (which have a regional list element) - Labour / SNP and Green.
local elections - Labour or Green
independence referendum - would be a yes from me.

I’m a socialist first, my overall vote is to get the tories out/ keep the tories out. The Labour Party to me is too centrist, I like the greens but my biggest concerns aren’t the environment, the SNP have issues too. Would never vote Tory, any of farages parties or Lib Dem.

PlasticineKing · 04/07/2024 16:18

I have voted tactically in the past, in a different constituency.

Where we are now was traditionally a Labour stronghold and now it flip flops between Labour and SNP. I’ve voted SNP and Labour before, I don’t want SNP this time and my views are more aligned with LD. I think Labour will get in comfortably here, so I’ve gone with my gut even though I know the LD won’t get in. Bit daft eh.

I used voteforpolicies.org.uk this year and found it really helpful.

Despite me voting LD this year, I’m very similar in how you’ve described your voting. Also English living in Scotland, although lived here longer than England by now

This year I went for the least worst one.

They are all terrible.
